Who will be the next Brit to win a world title??

Mitchell i reckon

I'd go with Mitchell as well, can't really see any of the others challenging for a title too soon. Macklin and Rhodes shouldn't be too far away from challenging but I don't see Rhodes winning and Macklin is still a few fights away imo.

I think Cleverly. I see Rhdoes, Macklin, Burns and Mitchell all getting shots before then but they will come up short.

Just kidding with Hatton, from the list posted I wouldn't be surprised if none of them won a "proper" world title.

I know IBO's quite crappy, but I still think it's a tad unfair on ole Matthew sometimes, he's cack, but I wish him well.

I know you can't nit-pick but I'd say IBO is well above WBU.

McCloskey ... think hes a super boxer !

Macklin for me:good.

Looking at the others names, I see very good challenges for titles, but you have to assess the current situations and the titlists that they would have to face in their respective divisions as well as their talent. Mitchell's decision to move up to 140 is terrible and I'm pretty sure he'll struggle in the division, which is a crying shame as he's one of my faves and I think he could have made a good fist of it at 130. Clev has a chance at the WBO, IMO, but I don't fancy him to trouble any of the other titleholders at 175 yet.

I'd say Macklin as well.

He just needs to stay the fuck away from Paul Williams..... against all the other top names in the division he would be a live dog at the very worst.

Can see Smith nicking the WBO in his next fight.

McCloskey will be the next Irish world Champion :D

Mitchell or maybe even Rhodes could be the next British world champ.

Define World Champion

Edit: For one of the big belts I also think me may have to wait a while - maybe McClosky or Barker most likely. But then one good shot from Rhodes... you never know.

If he has boxed for the British title then for the purpose of this exercise he should be considered British...what he considers himself to be is moot:deal

McCloskey is Irish Icemax as you well know. The British title is merely a stepping stone for guys like McCloskey. It is a means to an end, nothing more. Nice try though

Herbie Hide has the best chance, to win one at cruiser but i think he is pretty shot. Martin Lindsay could be in the mix.

I don't want to claim him, I don't think he's that good :D, but if he has fought for a Brit title then he surely fits the criteria :deal (to cover all eventualities the OP should have said UK fighters)

As you know Icemax, fighting for the British title does not make him British. It's merely a technicality which allows Irish fighters to fight for the title which in truth means very little to the fighters in question, it is merely a stepping stone onto bigger things. If Jamie Moore won a world title, I wouldn't be claiming him but he has fought for the Irish title. I know by now that you are a wind up merchant so I won't argue with you, it is taking away from the subject matter.

Ryan Rhodes will be in with a chance I would fancy him having a chance against most of the fighters at 154 at this time. His shot selection is top notch.

Roman Martinez is overdue a mandatory and with Mitchell moving up to fight Prescott, Ricky Burns is the next highest ranked. Not sure if i give him a big chance but its definately interesting.

Macklin and McCloskey are Irish.

Next British world champion? Isn't Herbie Hide #1 contender for a belt?

i think fragomeni holds that belt though and i don't see hide winning that matchup

edit: according to boxrec, fragomeni is fighting zsolt erdie later this month

I really don't have much faith in Cleverleyy being able to scale the heights...he had McIntosh on queer street for 6 rounds before he finished him, he won't have that luxury at European level, never mind world

avidlemon

I am going to say smith, purely by virtue of the #4 ranking he has with the wbo. The guys ranked ahead of him are tied up with the super six tourno. Stieglitz is someone who i think at this stage smith would cope with.
I watched his KO loss to Berrio, and thought whilst a very typical european boxer, seemed to have little punch reistance. The first shot that put him down, seemed rather powder puff.

Macklin. I don't expect to see him get a shot against Sturm or Pavlik though, so it'll have to be an IBF shot it seems.
