He's charismatic, articilate, unified the cruiserweight division away from home, has just won a portion of the Heavy title away from home and most of his fights are exciting tear ups. However, you haven't truly "arrived" until people in this country start giving you shit for no reason.

Congratulations David, you have officially "made it"

he didn't deserve it.

go back to reading the Sun you flag waving loon.

If a German fighter came here and beat one of our boys with a broken hand, five hooks per round and a general performance like that you'd be the first to condemn the atrocity.

Haye was poor and didn't deserve this fanfare, so apologies if I politely sip my pint and abstain from all this bullshit.

Even if the other guy landed less and spent all night chasing his man clumsily around the ring, like a drunk elephant?

You should have saved some time and taken your own advice.....only a blind, retarded boxing hating nun would have scored that fight for Valuev...now, back to your pint Mother Superior

Valuev didn't land less, that is a myth.

He landed jabs all night, soft as they were. He was up on all media scorecards, including Ring Magazine.

And coming forward "clumsily" 'like a drunk elephant' has always carried more points than backing away like a five year old girl.

laterz.

Coming forward scores nothing, or Ricky Hatton would have been leading Floyd when it came to the knock out. It only counts if it's having a genuine effect on your opponent.

This is the criteria used to score pro fights:

Clean Punching
Effective Aggression
Ring Generalship
Defense

Haye easily landed the better punches, Valuev's aggression was ineffective, hard to determine who the ring general was but you could make a case it was Valuev and Haye's defence was miles better.

No he wasn't.

Associated Press had Haye winning.

German TV commentators had Haye winning.

BBC Radio 5 Live had Haye winning.

ESPNs Dan Rafael who had said Haye would be KOd and who clearly dislikes him had Haye winning.

Eurosport had Haye winning.

So erm...what on earth are you talking about?

Dougie Fischer who writes for the Ring's website also had it for Haye. I think Claude Abrams (who picked Valuev) had Haye winning.

I know this question wasn't directed at me but Haye should've done more work. Not saying he should stand and trade, that would've been silly but there's no doubting he could've done more and secured a convincing win.

He had the power to hurt Valuev and footwork so superior he could've been in and out, throwing combinations, really step it up after round 10 and Knocked him out.

You don't think the fact he hurt his hand affected his output then?

Yeah,I agree with that but still feel he should've done more. IMO he took a massive gamble fighting that way in Germany. Thankfully it paid off.

Even before the injury his output was poor, but I suppose as its only the first couple of rounds,it doesn't really tell us his intensions for the rest of the fight.

Big time but the Beeb were too big for him. Hole in the wall is more popular than David Haye apparently, because people have hole in the wall partys where they get 50 mates round to watch.

You (and the ring piece mag) must be fucking myopic if you think that anything that the big fella threw actually landed...Valuevs performance was so inept I felt embarrassed for him. Haye clowned him all night. :deal

My score was thus:

1: 10-9 Haye
2: 10-9 Haye
3: 10-9 Haye
4: 10-9 Valuev
5: 10-9 Valuev
6: 10-9 Haye
7: 10-9 Valuev
8: 10-9 Haye
9: 10-9 Haye
10: 10-9 Valuev
11: 10-10
12: 10-9 Haye

Total: 116-113 Haye.

I'm loath to give even rounds as I know judges generally don't; but I couldn't seperate them in the 11th.

I think I gave the first Valuev and the 11th Haye, otherwise the same.

115-113.

i'll have to take your word for it mate.

although I refuse to believe even the saddest cunt on here watched the fight from some sort of nerve centre, with three PCs, two TVs (including German commentary) and the radio on, frantically trying to absorb all information and media perspectives. or even sought to find it straight afterwards...

I can't cross check your sources anywhere. But the Telegraph scored the fight for Haye as did some online boxing forums so I'll take your point.

This guy from the BBC, Nabil Hassan, gave the fight to Valuev tho:

I must admit I thought Valuev was going to nick that one. Don't get me wrong, Haye fought well and landed the more eye-catching punches, but I just felt that in Germany, he may have had to do a little more to takes the judges vote. Haye takes his record to 23 victories and one defeat and follows fellow Brits Amir Khan and Carl Froch in becoming world champions. Haye also becomes Britain's first world heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. Congratulations David.however, he could easily be some trained chimp just sent to cover the event, rather than a switched on boxing fan with an authoritative command of the issues in point.

in any case, the Ring Magazine article is the big support for my point. As well as Jim Watt, tons of US spectators and casual fans like Lee Mc.

The point is there is a huge case that David Haye did not do enough to warrant the kind of points decision he was given.

I wanted Haye to win from the start, so I'm no average apathetic Brit - building a star and trying to smash them (as alluded to in this thread). Hell knows we need a new icon now Hatton's a fat deluded mess.

there's nothing better than winning the title in glory and I don't believe Haye did. It's sad to see him celebrating and being worshipped as a hero for a title I don't regard him as having earned. I wanted to see a Hatton-Tszyu style performance and it was anything but.

You shouldn't be able to win the title going abroad, throwing a handful of punches per round and forever on the backfoot. Some spirit and sense of urgency should be a necessity in guaranteeing any points decision (involving the winning of a title), and Haye showed none - he was content absorbing Valuev's jabs and staying out of real danger than looking to land properly. As I said before, Haye's injury is unfortunate, but he shouldn't have been able to win the fight fighting like that.

But this is all just an opinion. However it hardly seems restricted to just myself.

He doesn't give it to Valuev at all, he says that because the fight was in Germany he would be lucky to get the nod...he is in effect saying that he thought that Haye was going to get jobbed

That was my understanding of it as well. I think the guy had Haye 1 up.
