Anybody have this book (or read it) by Joe Frazier? Worth getting for a beginner or a waste of time?

No but I seen it at my local library, instead of buying it call and ask your local library if they have it in and if they dont they will send away for it. It usually comes in around couple weeks later and you dont have to waste any money buying it, thats how I read a couple books including Teddy atlas one.

Nothing is wrong with gaining some knowledge. Every little tip or trick you can learn helps.

It depends i have it at home. I read it when i first started boxing it helps teach the basics, punching, blocking, parrying, slipping, ducking but if u want to box like a pro you'll need more than this book offers lol.. it is very basic. I suggested getting a copy of jack dempseys book off the net. It is very informative

I have it and liked it. I didn't use it to plan my training routine or anything but there were a few things I got from it and it was a good read. I recommend buying it... its only about 5 bucks I think so why not throw some royalties joe's way?

Both books are very good. I seriously recommend Joe Frasier's Box like the pros.It helps you to focus on the true necessities and he has a humble approach towards fighting. Its a pity he hasnt written another one. I honestly gained a lot more respect for Frazier than Ali after reading his book.
I have Dempseys book in PDF, its a good document of old school boxing and gives an indepth look at the origin of modern boxing techniques, even some lost techniques are covered in it too. He has quite a unique perspective on things more than generalisations that we are taught in contemporary boxing... so its definately worth your reading.
I think pros keep a lot of knowledge to themself. They dont want to sell their secrets away.

Dempsey's book is a gem.
Yes, it is.
I think that's one book every boxer should have a read through. It's acctaully one of the only boxing books I've ever read.

It is a great book for a kid just starting out. There isn't as much boxing as there once was so it is much more difficult to learn these days. Joe Frazier gives you some guidlines to go by and he also outlines some of the pitfalls that will be encountered along the way.

Doug Werner and Alan LaChica wrote a couple of books about boxing that are really good. I think they are called Boxer's Start Up and Fighting Fit. I would have explained hooks differently but they are still pretty good books.

I'd say the Frazier book is a near perfect primer.
"No frills" like the man himself. He'll have you steering clear of anything modern, doing a lot of floor work and throwing punches in a pretty traditional way (Frazier doesn't teach all the way as he does).
Get it. I'll reccomend it wholeheartedly, i know a lot of people are saying Dempsey, but for a beginer, I'd say Frazier is the one.
It's simple, straight forward, with the onus on hardwork.

USA Boxing puts out a manual and tape/DVD set that's fairly good at teaching the stardard modern amateur style.
