can't name many boxers who have destroyed tsyzu and castillo, can you?
there's a lot of jeolousy resent from him on this forum, but this is aimed by the vast minority who are gutted that their man lost on saturday!!!
hatton is very fit, hard working and has the potential to defeat mayweather, mosely and cotto.
In my view he's 2 good wins away from being a HOF'er, like it or not!

I think "legend" may be getting a bit carried away but if he beat Cotto in the next fight or two who can take anything away from him then............???........This next year & the choice of opponents in it could cement Hattons place in history............we will see.....
Mayweather and Cotto might be enough. I think he'd need to be around another couple of years on top of that, most of the top guys have longevity on their side. Take Lennox Lewis, for example. Many question his resume - I don't, though can understand the argument - but he was around at the top for years.
But, hell, I hope that's how Hatton would be viewed.

hatton is not an all time great, if he beats cotto and margarito/mosley in his next 2 fights he will be up there.

Win loss record, as well as major and minor titles aside, Hatton has beaten Tszyu, who was the man at 140, a top 10 p4p, and a future hall of famer, and Castillo, who was a former top 10 p4p, and a possible future hall of famer.
I'm not an expert on Hall of Fame credentials, but if Hatton beats the undefeated current #1 p4p, man at welterweight, and future hall of famer Floyd Mayweather, and the undefeated and hottest fighter at welterweight, Miguel Cotto, I would think he would have a shot at getting in.

If he can beat fighters like Dela Hoya, Mosley, Mayweather, Cotto and still be at the top until he is 35...then for sure.

tszyu and castillo are just 2 fighters out of the 43 he beat, he wasted too much of his time with the stupid wbu belt and fighting domestic contenders.

Aren't you exagerrating his win over Castillo. It was pretty expected. Yes he did win impressively but to throw him up in ATG is an exageration.
Right now Hatton barely inches into top10 p4p in my opinion.
I mean Hatton's win over KT was KT's last fight before retirement and Castillo is probably gonna retire as well.
If he can do what he did to Castillo against someone like say Paulie Malignaggi right now, I would throw him in the top 6
The problem is that looking at the fighters at 140 you can tell the division is pretty shallow right now, so his legacy will have to be built over time if he wants to stay at that weight

exactly,
at the time of the tszyu fight hatton was the underdog, people were expecting kostya to blow him out but hatton proved them wrong.
but this fight castillo was the underdog, majority of the fans were saying ricky will ko him or tko him late, this fight was expected.

Agreed. he had eight(I think) pointless fights before the Zoo fight. You can blame Fwank ****** for that. He was ready for Zoo and beyond in 2003

Oh I agree. Hatton first appeared on American tv in 2001, but didn't get a title shot until 2005. Had he moved his camp to America, he would have became a star much sooner IMO. Now he has the opportunity to build a solid legacy. I doubt he'll be around at 35, as he's stated he wants to stick around two or three more years. With the talent available, he could get a lot done in that amount of time.

Without actually going back and counting, I reckon the 'final predications' thread favoured Hatton about 60/40. So favourite, yes, but not overwhelmingly so

i dont remember a final predictions thread but the thread i remember was something like 75/25

fightnews's poll had Castillo favored as the victor. Vegas odds makers favored Hatton.

If he beat Mayweather and then retired undefeated, he is sure as hell retires with a better resume than Willie Pep.

I think Hatton has a chance of beating Cotto at 144 catchweight
And I see him taking a shock points win over PBF
If he succeeds in beating two physically bigger unbeaten champions then he becomes the top brit fighter of all time IMO
Hatton please stay off the junk food

Whats important is that the manner in which he beat Castillo was very impressive and a feat that probably few other fighters could have accomplished. Still, a legacy is built brick by brick, and though Hatton does have 43 fights, until his fight with ben Tackie, his opposition was very meaningless. I would say most fighters today fight a fight like that in about their 20th fight.

If Hatton becomes a legend I predict it will have more to do with the fact that he is one of few Northern Euros that are actually small enough to compete in the traditionally mexican (or latino) dominated divisions. Mexicans REALLY like their boxing and good fighters quickly become great by way of beating this or that fairy tale "beast". The mexicans are story tellers.
Hatton happens to be in that division.
If he was in SMW or LHW and had the same style and skillset, he would still be good, but he would not win many rounds against the big two from SMW nor Dawson and he would have his hands very full with Bute and Mundine.

all i will say to this thread is that.
Hattons wins best wins are
Vince Phillips by UD12 (Vince aged 40 years old)
Ben Tackie by UD12 (Ben 30 years old and comming off 2 loses)
Ray Oliveira by KO 10 (Ray 36 years old and his 2nd last fight ever)
Kostya Tszyu by RTD 11 ( Kostya 35 years old and in his last fight after 3 rounds in 2 years)
Carlos Muassa by KO 9 ( Carlos 34 years old and in his 2nd last fight ever)
Lius Collazo by UD 12 ( Lius in his prime but Hatton got a gift decision)
Juan Urango by UD 12 ( Juan in his prime but Hatton won in the ugliest fight of the year)
Jose Castillo by KO 4 ( Jose 33 years old but looked like a done fighter, with 64 fights including some wars)
so what is your oppinion on Ricky Hatton.
i know what mine is in all those qaulity wins 2 wins have been over prime guys and in both fights Hatton looked shocking.
i quess some would class that as being a legend although me im not convinced at all.
i will be if he faces a Prime Judah or Cotto or PBF.

This is a fairly big if. He will probably retire at 31/32 though, he has had a lot of hard fights.

You can do the same as that to any fighters record.Yes i know but most legends dont have there 2 best wins over guys that are about to retire.
like Tszyu and i think you will see Castillo retire now also.
PBF has wins over prime Castillo and Corrales aswell as Judah.
Hatton has prime wins over Collazo and Urango.
its a bit different getting wins over guys in there Prime.
like ive said before i dont think Tszyu's wins over Bramble,Chavez and Lieja count. but i think his Prime wins over Judah Mitchell Gonzalez Hurtado Urkal are some of his best wins. why all those guys were in there prime.
its like Tarver would he have stood a chance against a 2000 type Roy Jones Jr. and that the only important win Tarver has is a win over a old Jones.
do we sit back and call Tarver a legend
HELL NO
so why should Ricky get to be a legend.

Hatton's fan club already thinks he's a legend. If he's really interested in making a name for himself among those of us who are not on his nuts, how about two good wins against two fighters who are also at or near their primes, and possibly look impressive in the process.

so why should Ricky get to be a legend. Do we even know how faded Castillo is? That body shot would likely have stopped him in his prime too. And a 35 year old Tszyu is hardly a joke.

Yeah. I guess part of being a legend is longevity. Just wanted to see how he does when he is past his prime.
