Damnt. this is fucking bullshit, Golota has done nothing to deserve a shot. At least McCall fought someone who was considered a legitmate opponent, Golota has had one fight in three years and that was against Jeremy fucking Bates.

Golota is more marketable than McCall and was scheduled to fight on the same card anyway. Deal with it.

Gotzev said he wants the fight with Golota to be finalized despite the fact that he is unranked,
which goes against the WBC's own rules governing interim title bouts.

"Boxing is an attraction. There ain't no rules in boxing," Gotzev said.
"This is the wild, wild west. Golota in New York City in Madison Square Garden in a title fight
is an attraction and boxing is an attraction sport. You got a big, hard-punching Pole who gives
some good and bad performances and you got Sam Peter, who is overdue for his title shot.
Andrew was supposed to fight McBride, so he is in tremendous shape and he has been training.
We want to make the fight. We got to go make a payday. Our babies need new diapers."

this is so funny its ridiculous. a gimme for peter as golota will sh@t himself on the way to MSG and will be most brutally ko'ed in rd 1. they might just as well put tyson in with peter, if its entertainment that is being sought.

We are to believe that Golata will be competitive against Peter? Please. I think they just took the quickest and safest payday for Peter, since the champion, Maskaev, the person they really wanted to fight came up with some bogus excuse.
hmm but think of this. I wonder if Peter doesnt even brake a sweat and gets Golata out of there in 1 round... if he doesnt sustain any energy or has any problems, if he will be able to fight granpa Maskaev when he recovers from his back injury.

It's clearly a money thing. They see an opportunity to make more money than the card originally would have putting Golota in Maskaev's place.

The problem is the WBC, but that should prove to be rather easy considering their track record.

It'll probably be Golota. I'd rather see McCall or Virchis get this but I cannot deny that this matchup has me interested nonetheless.

Don't forget it's Maskaev who quit, not Golota. Golota is doing a favor to all this. It's a reward for saving their all asses.

Golota must be quite confident if he agreed to make this fight happen. I hope the decission was trully his and not King's or Ziggy's. Talk about diving head first. If you consider it, that's exactly what he did with Bowe. Going from Pu'ha to Big Daddy was a large step upwards, and Golota made his name then and there.Golota can rise to the occasion(eg., BOWE, GRANT, BYRD, RUIZ)but he must be weary of the clubbing canons, telegraphed from Peter. Peter is a hungry, determined fighter that has made something out of nothing (classic overachiever) and Golota is in his twilight, finally trying to put those talents consistently to good use against a premier fighter (classic underachiever). If this fight happens, I predict a bloody bout ala Golota vs. Corey Sanders. Peter - Golota will be a hell of a clash, worthy of primetime and regardless of the outcome, will end up surprising many.

Even in this crazy world of boxing, who would have guessed Golota could become the (interim) WBC HW champion this year? Imagine if he pulls off a miracle win.. haha.

This situation sucks and McCall obviously deserves it more and would give a better fight, but oh well. Let's get ready for the foul pole vs the rabbit puncher!

Me, either, but in retrospect we probably should have. Golota is a name, he's well connected, and he has gotten shots that he probably didn't deserve in the past. I think this matchup is pretty weak, but yeah, I should have at least considered the possibility.

If the WBC allow Peter to fight for an interim title, picking up the easiest guy out there to beat in Golota, it should just be extinguished from boxing. It would be another hit on the credibility of the HW class.

Yes, I agree he should get an interim fight, but he should be forced to fight one of the top-10 ranked guys, or at least someone from the McCline-TOS bout.

If he wants to fight Golota, it's fine, but not for the interim title.

Peter wants this fight because he knows if he can get past Golota it's his claim to fame. And I'm not talking winning by robbery, like Byrd and Ruiz got their W's.

This is all Maskaev's fault. He stalled and stalled and stalled, and now look. At least Peter finally gets to fight someone, though. I can't think of anyone who's been more unfairly deprived of a shot over the past couple years.

I think Golota is also so attractive because he is not demanding significant money. Golota is sound financially and views his comeback as a chance to improve his reputation.

2) Golota will put up a great performance - if he gets through the first 2 rounds.

Your thinking is incoherent in this case. Golota saved Showtime's, DKP's and Duva's collective asses by agreeing to make a huge step up in competition on the eve of the actual bout, after only facing a car mechanic Bates and was only scheduled to face McBride. As a last minute step in, Golota sure is more attractive then the likes of McCall or Ruiz. Who in the hell would watch or buy tickets to Peter - Virchis? Out of all the last minute bench warmers Peter could have chosen, I would say Golota is the most dangerous and the fight makes the most business sense.

Heavyrighthand
09-24-2007, 08:57 PM
McCall certainly is the one who really deserves it, and if not him, Virchis.

But they are apparently not about being fair. They are about who'll sell the fight the best, and that's Golota.

Nothing we can do, no matter how unfair it is to McCall. I guess we just had better enjoy the fight, cause I bet, unfair or not, it'll be one HELL of a good fight.

Golota by decision. Yeah, you read that right. :good

Samuel deserves more respect than to be offered such a low rider of a fight.. Golota and Jameel are years past their best.

Jameel was almost done when he was selected to fight Grant in 2001..

Golota beat himself in almost every fight he was winning in.. He can't handle pressure.

Golota quit in the latter rounds against Grant
Golota quit in his easiest potential win against Bowe 1
same in Bowe 2
Hated the pressure in the late rounds against Pouha and did like the discipline of taking orders from his corner v Tyson..

Sammy thrashes both..
