View Full Version : Glad Bisping won, derailed Kang train

First English fighter I can remember in a while using takedowns effectively, that was nice, I appreciate that most English fighters have better than average hands, but I don't want to see slightly better than average strikers putting on bad kickboxing matches everytime a Briton is involved.

More importantly Kang is the quickest fighter in the world to get overrated, it's bewildering (it used to be because he was non-UFC, now I have no idea) he has a blackbelt but not a great ground game, a straight right but no overall striking game, and most notably good cardio but no ability to push through (lack of heart? Disinterested?). Flatly he just isn't as good as his fans think, so I'm glad I won't have to hear that he is until he would have inevitably got beat by the next guy.

Dude got smashed from the guard/the turtle. He's a jiu jitsu blackbelt?!

He has support from Koreans mainly, I think. And he has a cool name.

Kang is a damn good fighter for a round he looked great vs Bisping and Belcher in the 1st round. Dude was always overatted due to the Pride days though.

What was up with Kang's guard? That did not look the guard of a black belt. That was sloppier than my guard, and my jits is terrible.

I can't stand Bisping, but I must admit, that was an impressive way to come back from a devastating loss. He beat the absolute crap out of Kang in that second round.

Bisping did a good job escaping, or Kang didn't do a good job applying pressure, going for his own gnp, and really focusing on submissions, trying to go for superior positioning instead of dealing damage.

I have to give Bisping the benefit of the doubt, I want to like him. If he keeps his mouth shut, and continues to have fights like he just did, he will grow on me.. For now, I'm not jumping on his dick. Slick defense on the ground against a guy who really wasn't trying to strike him, and it seems he had no recollection of getting knocked down by a right hand, which was a good punch but not a huge punch.. Makes me wonder what will happen the next time he gets hit with a decent shot.

Wonder who Bisping will get next? Probably Maia?

Good techniqual BJJ skills are hard to come by when you are tired, hurt and Bisping is smashing you face in like last at the finish.

Maia is getting Dan Miller next so Maia is unlikely right now. Id like a scrap with Nate Quarry.

Never thought about this. Would be an awesome fight. Quarry always comes to fight.

Yup and would test Bisping's chin we seen the Hendo KO and last night he was dropped earlier on and we know Nate loves his big right hand also.

Bisping's chin is shot, any sort if punch scares the shit out of him. Which is why he's always fighting from the outside and afraid to sit on his punches. I don't see his ufc career lasting much longer.

Not to parrot Rogan, but that was an instructional video on hip and elbow escapes from mount by Bisping.

Dude was always overatted due to the Pride days though.Im not sure it was PRIDE that even put him on a pedastal. He had alot of support amongst the Asian fans because of his heritage but the guy never fought anyone of any note even in PRIDE. Iv never truly understood what all the fuss was about with him.

He put together some fair wins in Pride in Ninja and Suluev, but most of the hype comes from his run in Spirit MC, a Korean org that is good but not great.

Props to Bisping. I found myself supporting him when the bell went. Couldn't help myself. Bisping went after Kang like he said he would. He didn't run around like a bitch. He got sparked with the right hand. His jujitsu escaping techniques were brillant. A real joy to watch. He lost the round but came out physically unscathed. The next round, he went for the takedowns, GNP, it was brillant. He had killer instinct.

Really great to see him partially overcome his mental demons (which I believe he has). Kang isn't Henderson but he isn't a journeyman. I hope he can maintain his approach against Silva and co.

I don't think Bisping has the durability to stand up as much as he does. I think he needs to use his wrestling and jj more. However they do need to improve. He is right though, Britain is about boxing, kickboxing, maybe a little judo. Now BJJ and wrestling is becoming more widespread in the uk. Hell, I was reading in fighting fit that we've even got a gracie.

I really enjoyed it actually. Wilks v Brown was good. Winner's hands looking winning :-) Pearson looked brillant and a I felt like he was a little GSP. Bisping showed balls and bounced back (off the canvas) almost literally. Couture and Vera was the only down point really but even then Couture has is on Hopkins level. ANYTHING he does to get the W is amazing.

You don't just have A Gracie in England you have the best, Roger. His Judo game has improved because of it.
