Have you/do you do this. Is it very awkward?
Share your confidence tips if you do, or any anecdotes if you are inclined.

well sometimes at work i think about boxing so when i go to the toilet ill shadow box in the cubicle lol... i aint ashamed...
but once i came out of the cubicle cause there wasnt space to practice footwork and i got "lost in the moment" in front of the mirror by the wash basins when a colleague walked in, looked at me in horror, then looked down at the floor and proceeded about his business.

I'm relieved, I thought I was the only one who shadowboxes on the way to the toilet. LOL!

why in the hell would you shadowbox in public?
When going for a run along the beachfront I often feel like shadowing, feels like it goes hand in hand with cardio. Never had the feeling?
I was thinking more in the context of running then just randomly breaking out.

people who shadow box in public are morons.
If no one can see you shadow boxing it doesnt count as shadow boxing in PUBLIC. people who shadow box in malls and in front of people in public are absolute gimps.

I think that's what people are talking about, places where you think you're alone. I sometimes shadowbox while doing road work, there's a soccer field half way down the route. Normally no one can see me, but occasionally someone walks his dog and there's me looking like Rocky IV.

Run somewhere very secluded, when its dark- otherwise you'll look a pleb.

But perhaps youll look even more of a pleb doing it in a dark secluded area?

You look like a cunt.
This may sound sad but I often think about punching people. When I walk in the supermarket, someone exposes his sides and I think about sacking him like a bag of shit with a punch in the liver. Or someone whose face I simply do not like. Mind you I never give in to it, I just smile and move on.

Why is that though? I'm not disputing it, just wondering. It's an important part of our sport and needs to be done. It's like calling a cyclist a cunt because he cycles.

Agreed. I can't stand watching people do it. Try in the gym and you won't have to try so hard in public to impress people. (I can only assume they think they are impressing people.)

That's also the answer to my question I think. Perhaps I'm weird but that's the last reason I can think of for myself. When I'm working out I'm in a world of my own, I couldn't give two shits what anyone thinks of me. But I know it's frowned upon so I don't do it.
Good to see you back here btw :)

When you are working out is one thing but if you're standing around at a cocktail party or wandering around the mall is totally different. Just like you're not supposed to be standing around socializing at the gym, you're not supposed to be shadowboxing at the mall. See what I'm saying here?
Nice to see you too. :D
Point taken. If you shadowbox at parties you're a cunt, clear as day. What about boxing discussions at social gatherings where you have to give an example of the subject at hand though? I'm a bit guilty of that as well, and it may also make me look like an idiot. Sometimes you meet a boxing enthusiast and before you know it you're showing each other defensive movements and such.

That's different than just standing in a group of people talking about the weather. It's within context. Still, I try to keep boxing conversations to a minimum when I'm in groups of people because I've noticed that the only people interested are me and the one person asking me questions. It can get rude sometimes.
Agreed.
Btw fight number two is finally on its way. I'm already getting hyped up with still 12 days to go. You probably had 20 more since my first one ;)

my brother smashed a mirror shadow boxing, and obviously couldn't think up a good excuse quickly enough :patsch
(unless of course, that was an excuse...)

no doubt if you caught a cyclist shadow-cycling on his way to the toilet you'd consider it odd though

Looks perfectly up and up. :conf
Come to think of it I shadowbox in a place that a view of my neighbours have a clear view on. I also do jump rope and stuff over there. They all know I'm a boxer and if not I don't really give a fuck.

i also think like this. I think about hitting people when they are in my way or even if they arnt. Sometimes i look at people and think to myself, i would love to punch you in the face or id love to drop you like a sack of shite with a body shot. I would never hit a inocent person for no reason though.

oh no, you actually show people boxing defensive moves at parties.
How do you even get on to the subject of ill show you a few moves. This is probably worse then shadow boxing at a party. You would look like a gimp if you were showing somebody defensive moves then he beat the shite out of you. Would be kind of ironic.

We used to get people shadow boxing in the club I worked at years back, they'd do it to try and scare people, it looked stupid and they usually got carried out.

Not like I'll show you a few moves, it starts as a discussion but you basically end up having to demonstrate it. I have these kind of discussions with other boxers or enthusiasts, as they know I'm obsessed with it.

I do the same. I'm always showing people at work little things like how to stand, how to hold their hands, how to get more power into a shot. little things that make them think wow.
they routinely like to come up to me and hit my hand or my arm to test out their new found strength.
it's jokes and fun.

Girls really are very disinterested overall in boxing. So yea. You not impressing them. Embarassing them, most likely.
I did it a lot last year, first year in high school as everyone would come up to me and be throwing little "hey buddy' jabs and stuff. Like all the time. Wasn't really shadow boxing, but kinda air sparring, and borderline retarded.
Ended up doing it with a 240 lb gym teacher. Same deal, he comes up, little "hey buddy' air jabs, and I counter air left hook him back ...right in the teeth by acc. This in a school assembly. He didn't know wtf to do, or me..then he bull rushed me and tackled me to the floor and planted me in it like a tent peg.

I feel like a dick shadow boxing in the gym because I'm new and don't wanna look like I'm trying to look good, so I wouldn't dare do it in public. The only time I've ever almost done it was when I was jogging and I started to sort of flick my arms out, but then someone saw me so I put my head down and was was like 'fuck that' :scaredas:

the initial embarrassment of shadowboxing when ur new took ages to wear off for me, even now i think i look like an idiot and get self conscious doing it, but then i think - if i cant have correct technique when im on my own in the mirror how can i hope to have it in the ring when there are a million other things to consider?
i shadow box as much as possible.. in the shower, kitchen, toilet, at work. i dont do it in public places though. i think the more u shadow box the more comfortable u get..

I shadowbox in public sometimes, then I realize what I am doing and stop... Seriously, I understand why people do it, but it makes you look like a jackass. So do your best to suppress the urge, you will be better for it.

I'll do little bits almost anywhere when people arn't around BUT have been caught.
Had people come up throwing fients and jabs in a friendly manner- although catching me offguard and ive reacted in a stupid way.
When doing swimming sessions i'll throw punches underwater. If anyone does this, it makes you think differantly on how straight you think your punches are though.
One other thing that is absolutely embarressing... I've been told when im wasted at clubs I get a goofy boxer dance happening. What can i say, i work out to music all the time and theres people doing worse shit in a club.:oops:
