Doglas is bigger, has longer reach and has a very good jab.

LOL, Douglas because he is about six times bigger, with more ability in his little finger;)
Seriously Cockell had a ton of heart and little else, Douglas as a rule had everything but heart. Douglas grinds Cockell down in a fairly one sided fight, probably winning on a facial damage stoppage.

Douglas KO 6
Don was a light heavy when Heavy's were 13 stone 8...
It would be like a natural 245lb'er fighting a natural 175 lb'er

You meant a 190 lbs- man with a 55 lbs extra-fat- layer?

JBD was 190 lbs last when he was about 6...
He is a 245 lb man with a 50 pound fat layer..
Walkaround weight usually 300lbs..

Yeah, I know. My point was just, that this unnecessarily fat isnīt an advantage, but in your post it sounds like it is...

I have to take Douglas as he was much more impressive at his best--he slaughtered Tyson while Cockell was slaughtered by Marciano.
But I do think an upset is not out of the question if Douglas comes in fat and unmotivated as he often did. Cockell could go fifteen. He would weigh 210 to 215 with plenty of fat. Douglas would weigh 240-250 with plenty of fat. Cockell proved he had stamina even with that much weight. I think he might come on late to outpoint Douglas on one of Douglas' off nights.

Interestingly, outside of the Tyson fight Cockle probably has the better resume of the two.
In all though I cannot see him wining this against a motivated or nearly motivated Douglas.

Buster would win. Cockell gives the fan's their monies worth.

prime for prime Buster,by tko late or decision,Cockell was a 175 pounder who contracted glandular fever ,it screwed up his metabolism and he gained weight that he was never able to shift,he was a fair boxer ,durable with a lot of heart ,as Marciano would testify,Buster ,far bigger would keep him on the end of his jab ,and land one twos off it.

Don did carry a lot of fat on a much smaller frame than James.. It isn't the fat that would help James with his power , but besides the fat layer he carried far more lean mass than Don , had a lot of height on him and was superior by way of human development, he was just more advanced on a skills level.. Don had a gigantic heart .. but the advantages for Buster were just too great........
Cockell has a better carreer than Douglas. Neither one was great. If not for win over Tyson, who was out of shape, Douglas would be forgotten. It would be a boring fight, either could win by decision. I would give Cockell edge, but slieght one.

Dont be shock if Cockell wins this one. Don is pretty underated imo. And Douglas is overrated.

Totally overrated. People forget that Tyson was in their fight just mediocre, and Douglas at his best. Look at the resume of both fighters (Cockell and Douglas), when I read here some predictions itīs really ridiculous...

People put the Douglas that beat Tyson with the likes of ALi or Louis. In head to head. Which is pretty crazy imo.

Exactly. I knew it when I made this matchup, how people would react. And I was right. Douglas was at the best a contender, with mediocre punching-power, some skills, horrible stamina and with way too much fat. Ridiculous how some people think about him head-to-head...

Buster has beat tyson, mccall, berbick and grag page, who the fuck has cockell beat? Harry Kid matthews and lastarza, o wow i'm fuckin impressed! Douglas is the better fighter.

Cockell beat:
Farr
Matthews
LaStarza
Lloyd Marshall
Douglas beat:
Tyson
Berbick
Page
I donīt count McCall as a great win for him, because he had 12 fights or something like that when he fought a prime Douglas...
So like you see, Cockell had the better resume...

No he doesnt, beating tyson is better than beating all 3 of those guys put together and mccall had over 20 fights by that time. Greg Page would prolly beat all the guys cockell has beat, on top of that hes a fuckin light heavyweight and his skills are inferior if u watch them on tape.

I looked now as a precaution at boxrec, McCall was 14-2, thatīs too green to count that as a great victory. Beating Tyson on that night, looks great on the paper, but not for a boxing insider. Tyson wasnīt even able to blow Douglas away (who had a at the best mediocre chin), ask others here, beating Farr, LaStarza, Matthews and Marshall is a better legacy than beating Page, Berbick and Tyson (with the shape he had on this night)...

Thats ur opinion, its not much of a legacy if you havent even beat 1 champ and like i said before, greg page in his prime would most likely beat those guys too, tyson would smash them.

You always change from the legacy-point to the head-to-head- point. We started discussing about the legacy, and Don has a better legacy than Douglas. What would have been in fantasy matchups, is another thing. And btw, Page wouldn´t beat a prime Farr for example...

I dont see how its a bigger legacy, he never beat a champion. Douglas is a linear champ and hes beat 3 ex alpha champs and a few other contenders from the 80s like cobb and helstead. Don Cockell is a light heavyweight that never beat a world champ.

But thatīs not the point, example A beat a champ, example B didnīt, so example A is automatically better. Bullshit- theory IMO...
Farr for example beat fighters like Loughran, Neusel, Baer, Moody, Gains, etc., he had bad luck that at his time Louis was the champ, but he gave him a close fight. Farr IMO would beat Berbick, Page, McCall, and probably also the version of Tyson Douglas fought, heīs very underrated, a win over him is better than a win over a man like Page, whether if he wasnīt champ and Page was..

I've watched some film of Don Cockell, and even viewed his title match with Marciano. Frankly, I'm not impressed. I didn't see the skills that he would have needed to beat a bigger stronger and better boxer like Douglas. No, I'm not making a case for Douglas being a great fighter, as he clearly wasn't, but neither was Cockell. Douglas could move around quite a bit for a bigger man, and had a fairly good jab and hard right. At times he didn't show up in tremendous shape. On the otherhand, Don Cockell suffered from a disease which prevented him from properly breaking down Carbohydrates, leading to his often being overweight, or just not ideally conditioned.
I don't see Cockell winning this one, and in fact I think I'll go with Douglas by a wide decision or TKO.

Sorry Luigi but Farr was 39 and in the throes of a comeback ,after being retired 10 years,he told my Dad he only came back for the money,so the win isnt as creditable as it seems,I met Cockell a very nice man very modest,Im 5 81/2 and was a Welter/Middle,Cockell was only an inch or so taller than me.Against the 6 4 Douglas he would have serious size problems.

Actually I also favour Douglas in this one, that´s not my problem, my problem is when someone says, that Douglas legacy is SURELY better and names Page as a great win for example...

Douglas was beating Tucker then gassed out,he seemed to have "ticker 2problems early in his career unlike his dad Billy Dynamite Douglas who was a real warrior.Cockell a mild mannered modest man never lacked for courage,Marciano said "he was the only guy I fought who was smaller than me,my best punches didnt seem to affect him",its gruesome watching that fight now,Cockell, just before going into the ring told his manager John Simpson ,who had been with him since Don was a boy,"whatever happens in there dont you F*****G Well Stop It,"Cockell knew what he was in for,but fought his heart out

Correct, he really showed a great heart and a very good chin in that fight...
