unbelievable. and sadly it's all legal. the guy is nearign 40 and is at th etop of his game (assuming he isnt dissintergrating) and his ex-manager crying "foul"
get the facts right and the facts are that Choi signed a contract with his manager and so has to pay his manager 25%. No one has said he cant fight but after each fight he owes him his cut.. And by the way Choi has had 1000's of pounds out of the said manager, 1000's of pounds he wasn't even due and anybody that knows Choi ask him and he will tell you himself that its true, jack Doughty looked after him well and above the Duty of a manager..

Well why doesnt jack just cut his contract with choi up and let the guy have one final run at a title and make some money for him self

Jack Doughty has been very good to Choi and laid out a lot of money. I understand Choi wanting to move his career on,and earn big money at this stage of his career, and Spencer Fearon probably has the ability to do this. But Mr Jack has to be entitled to a return. It's a proper mess and I can see both sides.

So is the reason Choi's not fighting is because he doesnt want to pay Doughty the 25% or is Doughty stopping him fighting on other manager/promoters show's?
Terrible shame. He was at his prime when politics, both boxing politics and home office bureacreacy halted him.
Nobody wanted to fight Choi, that was obvious. Nobody wanted to fight this guy that had a great chin, strength, a punch, and great desire to fight hard.

Jack Doughty looked after Choi very well. He isn't stopping him from fighting he just wanted his cut (which he is entitled to considering he brought Choi over here trained him up for next to nothing, housed him and still has a contract with him). Spencer Fearon was more than happy to pay him for Choi's last fight so I don't see the problem now to be honest. Anybody else see half the crap that Spencer puts on his F/B page ???

ok i know were jack is comeing from, i just feel sorrie for choi he is a world class fighter who should be fighting for world titles, but he cant get a decnt fight for the love of money. He could be one of the biggest wastes of talent in the last ten years and not through his own doing because of bad promoters and managers, and so called top fighters avoiding him

I've heard he's out with an injured ankle at the moment but will be back. Jack's mates at the BBBofC in bandit country apparently shafted him at hearing meaning he was looking at mma possibilities before injury but he'll box again in new year, maybe in the featherweight prizefighter scheduled for next yearearly/mid 2010.

Sid, the reason that Spencer and Choi were called before the board was nothing to do with Jack Doughty. It was due to Choi's work permit. Thats why he went back to Mongolia. The MMA thing was purely to keep him active and earn a bit of cash whilst an opponent agreed to fight and whilst he was suspended (with the visa issue) :good

You're wrong Dan. Choi and his trainer told me about it in person in his gym in Crayford. He had a cast on his ankle at the time. He has been granted permanent residency here and has no problem with work permit. Unlike Shinny he doesnt want to get a UK passport because it might affect his Mongolian one (Shinny's prepared to take risk, means too much to Choi). This rules out him ever fighting for a British title.

Hell if he fights in the prizefighter, I'm putting my house* on him to win that shit!!!
*I don't really own a house.

I was told by Spencer himself the day before the meeting with the BBofC :good
I may be wrong on the MMA front (my apologies) however he was never fucked over by Mr Doughty's 'friends on the board'. The only reason he was temporarily suspended was so that the board could discuss the work permit matter with Choi in person and when they tried to contact him he was in Mongolia. He was never punished in the sense that he was stopped from fighting. It was a temporary suspension which was lifted straight after they went and sat with the board and explained the matter to them

Fair enough Dan, crossed wires. I spoke to him after meeting where they did screw him over somewhat. Spencer's still keen to promote him and hopefully will be fighting again in new year.

No worries. If you know Spencer ask him to stop jibbering utter rubbish on his Facebook account too please
I dont know him well enough and like getting the tidbits of info he sometimes puts on there however he spouts some pure and utter crap and he does it everyday - so everyday my news feed is filled up with his phylosophical garbage :rofl
The board have never said Choi cant box, indeed if Fearon wants to promote him then he can BUT he has signed a contract with Jack Doughty the man that took him in and spent thousands on him and I mean thousands, allowing him to travel to Mongolia and back on many occasions and deserves his 25%, Choi is not this great man many people think he is although he is a great fighter. he knows if he had 50 fights next year the 25% would not go near to what he owes Mr Jack... ask him
Feel sorry for Choi that he isnt able to fight at present and that his career is seemingly slipping away from him. But as others have already said when you consider what Jack Doughty has done for him he doesnt deserve shafting now at this late stage. Especially when you consider that what he has done was probably not done for huge amounts of money in the first place as I cant imagine those Tara shows which Choi was headlining were major moneymakers for Doughty.

The problem is less with Jack than the pricks on his local board who want Choi to pay 25% of all his costs as well (something Jack didnt understand himself).
Choi and Jack left the meeting on good terms - as they did when Choi left for Mongolia earlier this year when both assumed he was ending his career.
One other thing....would Jack have a British champion at the moment if it wasnt for Choi? It takes a particularly one-eyed view to think Choi was the only one who gained from working together and schemed to get out of it.
They just got to a point where Jack couldnt do anymore for Choi - not entirely his fault due to him not wanting to get British citizenship, but to earn the 25% from the contract signed after the Derry fight he could have at least tried to get him fights in the US when it was clear ****** wouldnt use him. It probably would have benefited him eventually. He was number 4 in IBF and top ten in Ring back then.

Its just a shame and a poor reflection on the sport that because of the danger the fella posed to certain promoters protected fighters that he couldnt get on and have the career that his talent deserved.
As you rightly point out its highly unlikely he would have Bayaar had he not had Choi in the first instance and so yes both men have benefitted from each other, but that doesnt change the fact that you cant just expect Doughty to step aside and allow Choi to fight for other managers/promoters when he has already signed up to specific terms in a contract.
