View Full Version : I think that we can stop bashing TUF fighters...

I can remember back when I used to defend the TUF show, saying that it is putting out some very good contenders into the UFC, along with the fact that the show basically caused the explosion that we see in MMA right now. Everyone would say that the TUF fighters were all just C level fighters who weren't ever going to be contenders.
Now we have...
Keith Jardine beating Chuck Liddell.
Forrest Griffin beating Shogun ( and many thought that Griffin beat Ortiz)
Matt Serra beating St. Pierre.
And we have all of these extremely tough contenders....
Kenflo
Sanchez
Diaz
Koscheck
Bisping
Hamill
Leben
Maynard
Stevenson
Guillard
Evans
ect....
The TUF show has really put out some tough bastards. They are not just going into the UFC, bringing a name and some fun fights, they are beating good, established fighters, winning titles, and beating greats such as Liddell, St. Pierre, and Shogun.
The TUF show deserves some respect. There are plenty of talented fighters in this world. Many of them need a springboard like the TUF show to get noticed. Also, the show has been used by the likes of Serra for example... to bring their career up from the dead.

Yeah, the best of that show is pretty decent, but even the second best can be pretty poor much less the lower guys. Josh Haynes took second (probably would have been third if not for Hamil's injury, but was still better than most) and he has done nothing but get his ass kicked even while dropping two weight classes. I don't really think ANYONE from the last TUF will do much. Diaz seemed to be getting overpowered in every fight but just knew too many subs that other guys didn't. He was getting worked in the finale until Manny hurt himself, which probably means he wont' do much either. The only ones on your list that I think will really be much of anything are Florian, Sanchez, Kos, Diaz and maybe Evans. The rest are either also-rans who aren't really better than average or guys who haven't proven even that yet.
Still a good show though. Wish they did less Big Brother drama shit and did more about their training, but still, it's a good show.

No doubt Widdow. I've always been baffled by the TUF haters. The fact that they got a shot at some exposure doesn't preclude them from being good at what they do any more than it makes them good at what they do.

i never liked leben..but i thought he seemed reborn in his ability and attitude in that show....sure he got tagged by martin, but he'd pretty much controlled the action in a fight he was meant to lose....i thought that whole show was one of the best id seen....nate quarry puled it out the bag, nate diaz totaly owned his guy, kenflo stopped his man again...good show and i thought all the competitors were a good advert for mma...unlike that cunt bisping...(he may redeem himself, but needs to look at randy and the like and learn class rather than crass...)
