One of many reports in the French media re the Jack Johnson-Jim Johnson fight.
BTw I have not seen it advertised as a World title fight.

Apparently over time there has developed a tradition the fight was stopped early.

I can see how some people got the wrong end of the stick but I am content that it was a ten rounder.

Does not need to be, as it was not an exhibition; then by default as the World's Heavyweight Champion, Johnson has to be defending the championship, that is a unwritten rule.

And if it was a 20 round match, Jim Johnson should have been crowned the next champion via TKO win.

In fact the French wanted to strip Jack Johnson of his title for this fight.

By the way, you can see Jim " battling " Johnson on film. I have a few minutes of him vs. Sam McVey, and from the looks of it Battling Jim is slightly the better.

But, it was not a 20 rounder.

If your Aunt had balls she would be your Uncle, etc.

That is debatable. I have shown you two cases where they say it was 20 rounds. By chance did you read about this fight in Unforgivable Blackness?

I've seen this before, but I have my doubts over it being Battling Jim Johnson.
I think McVey is the one with the hair, and both fighters are under 6' IMO, with the bald one being slightly shorter.
Most sources put McVey at 5'10,
Jim Johnson is put at 6'3

So, which one of the two is McVey, and which one is 6'3 ?

That is Mcvey, who was under 5'11'' .I very much doubt that is Jim Johnson who is listed as 6'3'' and 220-240lbs,the photo of Johnson on Cyber zone shows a huge man with a full head of hair.
Mcvey's opponent looks shorter than him here, it's possibly Jeff Clark ,who was 5' 8''/9'' and shaved his head,it could be in Paris ,or Panama.

That is Jim Johnson. He was bald for much of his career.

Somewhere in this thread, we need more than "I have just told you so".

What have we got on Jim Johnson and this supposed 20 rounder?

Pretty sure this is the Neuhilly, France draw between Johnson(bald) and McVey.7/aug/1910. It matches contempory French photos of the fight. Obviously there is not 4 inches in height between the fighters.

Well, if McVey's the one with hair, then Jim Johnson is actually slightly shorter. And McVey's usually listed as 5'10, that makes Jim Johnson about 5'9.
There's about a six inch discrepancy between what Johnson appears to be, and what he's listed as.

Maybe there were two fighters using "Battling Jim Johnson" as a name. Even the three pictures on the cyberboxingzone site look like they might well be of two different men.

So Jack Johnson had his hands full with a 5'9" journeyman who was also fat and bald?
