Povetkin-Beck?

I have read on another site that Povetkin will fight Owen Beck on December 5th. What is the point of this fight? Could they not have got a better opponent?

Povetkin's career has stagnated since the Chambers win :-(

Sasha has to take baby steps in his comeback fights, he is a massive project for his backers and if he is to make a succesful bid for a proper title, his return has to be done carefully... beck is a strong man who has mixed in high caliber of opposition, he has to be recognised and respected as such... Povetkin has to return succesfully and positively.. He is back in the hunt....

The haunting question is why has he been inactive? The Estrada fight was his comeback fight from tge injury, so where has he been?

Teddy Atlas is trying to switch up Povetkin's style, but he better not try to copy what worked with Mike Tyson.

Povektin has very good speed, very good stamina, a very solid chin, and can throw all types of punches. His heart and intangibles to me are on par with Holyfield. Povetkin needs to work on defense, his jab, and drop 10 pounds.

Povektin is ready for a title fight right now. I believe the calculation on his part is Wlad was too good, and waiting for a title shot is best for him.

Its a farce,early ko win for Povetkin,Beck will be turning up purely for the money.Povetkin needs a meaningful fight and soon.He is ready for much bigger nights and better opponents.Look at Kessler last night,that is what happens if you dont get the right fights,easy wins are harming Povetkin`s career.

I guess Povetkin's management picked Beck.Povetkin is Russian based,and Beck is really no recognisable or known name there.

I for one have no problem with Beck as long as Sam vs Povetkin will really take place in either january or february 2010.

I also want Povetkin - Peter but with Sasha fighting on 5 December isn't it a bit difficult to fight again in 2 months ? Let's hope so... I still don't understand why he postponed the other fight scheduled for 16 October :huh

I was really a fan of Povetkin, but his inactivity and unwillingness to face top opponents now has put me off. I'm tired of his excuses of injury, Teddy Atlas, whatever is going on.

Make the Sam Peter fight, win impressively and then take your title shot finally or just go away Sascha!

If Sasha is indeed fighting Sam Peter early next year then I could really not care less who he will be facing in a couple weeks.

I just hope he is not ruined by Teddy Atlas' antiquated methods/pratfall antics.

I hope its true, but it seems like we have been hearing the rumors for two years now of Povetkin fighting bigger, more powerful heavies.

Well, I will remain a fan of the man's regardless, but its time to do SOMETHING.

I thought Beck was a decent fight, they should have kept it.

Sure Boswell is even better, Nolan is decent I suppose, but now there is also a good chance he will end up fighting no one, or Danii Peret for Christ sake!!

Povetkin vs Peter? I really doubt they will make this fight, specially now that Peter is showing up under 240lbs. Povetkin's people will not risk losing the big payday they are set to make with Wlad. They will pressure Wlad, try to get as much money as they can, but will wait patiently for their turn which should happen by next June/July after Wlad is donne with Chambers in march.
