As far as calories are concerned, I think it's far better not to consume any unnecessary ones in the first place, rather than eating shit for the sake of it and then trying to burn it off. On average a one mile run burns off 100 calories, which is the equivalent to one slice of bread :-( Eat well and you'll have less need to burn any off.

I'm pretty sure that's good advice, but I eat nothing but bad food

i wasn't planning on eating extra and burning it off, that'd take forever i'm sure.

I'm just curious on questions like how many calories do you burn hitting the heavybag, or jumping rope, or sparring for example.

Depends, mostly on intensity and duration. If you do intense intervals followed by slower, less intense intervals your body will continue burning calories for hours after you finish working out.

Sweet!... do you care to expand on that a little bit? I've never heard this before.

That's partially true - High intensity exercise burns FAT long after the exercise is finished, while low intensity burns calories at the time of exercise.
Crazy but true.
I don't know about high intensity followed by low intensity specifically.
