View Full Version : Maskaev strategy makes sense.

He will wait on the sideline for Klitchko-senior (who conviniently got out of a scheduled fight) to get to Peter and beat him (and he will). Then Maskaev will have a fight with Klitchko for big $$ - that he wanted all along.

makes a lot of sense...get the belt youve supposedly wanted your whole life and then act like a complete coward once you do have it.

and to think other fighters get derided for fighting top fighters AND making money.

he would have made more money if he was to beat peter, but then again, if he is that unsure of himself then it is a good move. He still had a punchers chance though. He has a nice short powerful right hand.

No, Peter-Maskaev will happen for the WBC Heavyweight Title and the winner has to fight Vitali if he is able to fight anymore. Vitali is not going to come back to fight Peter for the Interim title. When/if he comes back, it's going to be an easier tune-up or right away for a title shot.

No offense, but this is a terrible strategy and I sincerely doubt this is really the case. There's absolutely no guarantee that Vitali will be able to fight again. Faking an injury would be a big financial risk.

Exactly, Vitaly doesn't want to fight Peter for he doesn't want to get his ass beat. If Peter didn't even get wobbled by Wlad until he was dead tired in the 12th after chasing him and getting caught, then Peter will walk through Vitaly unphased by anything he lands and knock VK out. That's the reality and VK knows it. That is the reason we will not see Vitaly fight Peter...

A healthy Vitali even now just toys with Peter by boxing him from
distance. Vitali easily backs out of range from Peter's wide, looping
powershots and then nails him consistantly with accurate and powerful
counterpunches. Honestly, I can't think of a more perfect fighter
for Vitaly to feast on than Peter in his comeback to the ring. This
fight is a stylistic nightmare for Peter.

Yeah makes sense for a fighter who is trying to hang on to his dear career. :yep
He can bring his title all the way six feet under the ground for all I CARE . . . but he won't ever get respect for long as he doesn't fight Peter who has worked his way to the title contention.

Beating washed out James "Steroids'n'Donuts" Toney 1.5 times - and a few complete bums in addition - is not "working his way to the title" in my book.
He will be just the same type of a phony WBC "champ" as Rahman was, and will end up just the same: knocked out in a corner. Maskaev may be too old, and deserves just one payday - somebody else will do that for him.

The sound you are hearing is the cash register "ka-ching" - from the sanctioning "bodies" and promoters.

I think this is a legit injury, but it'll certainly work out better for Maskaev, in the long run..
Yes, I think he's not too worried about the turn of events, as he sees a big money title fight with Vitali sometime in 2008.
Maskaev will make alot more fighting Vitali than he would fighting Peter right now. This injury is not such a bad thing for Maskaev.

Vitali would make Peter look like a bum off the street. Peter would be pounded form pillar to post, much like Danny WIlliams was. Maybe even worse than WIlliams, cause Willaims is probably a better boxer than Peter is.
Vitali would make clown shoes out of Samuel Peter.

A healthy Vitali Klitschko pounds on Peter for 5 or 6 rounds & KO's him.

Vitali in his prime or even in 2004 would do very well against Peter. Peter's style is custom made for Vitali to look good. Peter would be picked apart with straight punches and counterpunches right up the middle. Vitali would have controlled the distance and wore Peter down. Since Peter has a great chin, I'd imagine he would be stopped anywhere from 8-10. However, Vitali right now, I'm not so sure. I will hold off reservation until I see him back in the ring. If he's still 80 percent of what he once was, he should still be able to beat Peter or anybody for that matter.

Not even close...Peter is too strong to play with...Power punches don't even stop his charge...so how would Vitaly's pitty pat accumulation punches do so? If VK could just toy with Peter then why didn't Wlad do the same? I'll tell you the reason...With Peter Vitaly would be forced to run like a bitch and tie him up just like Wlad had to in order to win...You guys don't like to deal with the reality only the fiction the make your guy great...Let be realistic, lets try that for a day.

You're ignoring the fact that a healthy Vitali has an iron chin. He took
shot after shot from Lennox Lewis, especially that massive uppercut
that landed flush on Vit's chin and nothing, nada, no effect. Any other
fighter other than maybe your guy Peter would be out cold from that
powershot. Wlad's chin as Zakman has stated and I respect his
opnion is about average. So to draw comparisons between the
Klit brothers vis-a-vis how they would fare against Peter is bogus.
Iron-jawed Vitali would not have to protect his chin
nearly as much as little bro and would be much freer to just
outbox and slowly but surely beat down the much cruder, less
skilled boxer Peter. By the way Vitali punching power is hardly
"pittypat" The massive Danny Williams claimed Vitali was the
strongest puncher he had ever faced. I agree Vit's punches aren't
as powerful or explosive as Vlad's but they've KO'ed a lot of his
opponents. Vitali has no need to "tie up" Peter. He can move in
and out of range to throw punches and take some in return if
he chooses with little fear of being KOed. Vitali has all the physical
advantages in this fight and way more experience. That's your
reality for you. If these two meet prepare for your man Peter to
get the beating of his life.

A healthy Vitali...
A healthy Vitali no longer exists.
There would be a big risk that he might not even be able to make it to fight night, which would send the WBC into even a bigger hole than it is right now.

Yeah in your book . . . and you can shove your book into your ass. :yep
Irregardless who he fought along the way . . . officially he still earned his shot and that doesn't justify Maskaev acting cowardly.
Maskaev is too old to fight? Then he should retire.
Wrong and lame justification shithead . . . try again.

It's a dangerous game to play with those 2 being mid to late 30's.
At some point boxing fans are going to wake up, and refuse to watch middle aged men fighting each other.
There is ZERO guarantee that either Oleg or Vitlay can make it through a training camp. Vitlay is 0 from 5 currently......
