I am suspicious of Ustinov's reputation as a power puncher. I am also not so sure of his skill and talent level. Admittedly, I haven't seen much of him, so I may be wrong.
Barrett is probably a totally shot fighter at this point. Thus, an impressive Ustinov win may not answer many questions about him.
It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Barrett is completely shot now, Ustinov should be able to lay him out early to mid rounds.

Monte just loves to lose, doesn't he? It's past time to pack it in...
Wish I could say I had any faith in him here, even 1%, as Ustinov is terrible and I'd love to see him upset by a gatekeeper on his way to serious contention. But it'll take a higher level gatekeeper (someone like a Cedric Boswell :D :deal) than the used and discarded Barrett, who I watched get completely blitzed by an unspectacular Solis live and in person last month.

What's your all-around assessment of Ustinov? I'm talking about his hand and foot speed, athleticism, technical skill (ability to set punches up, etc.), durability and power.
I thought he looks unreasonably slow, on his feet and with his hands. I couldn't tell that he had any athletic ability worth talking about.
For the time being, Ustinov seems like nothing more than a big guy who beats down "C" level opposition with this superior size. There's absolultely nothing about him that makes me think he is another Vitali Klitschko.
Maybe I'm wrong...I don't know.

Back in the days when he was still fighting in K-1, Ustinov had quite a reputation.
He was never a skilled fighter, but he was big, strong, had a good chin and used his strength to dominate his opponents.
In the beginning I had pretty high expectations for Ustinov, but I have been dissapointed so far. Since the beginning of his pro boxing career he hasn't learnt a thing.
He hardly improved and that is pretty worrying. I think he really should change trainers so that he can progress.
I think he will try and land a title shot somewhere in the near future. Barett is a well known name and by beating him, he'll be able to get in the spotlights.
Barett should be able to give him a good test and he will also test Ustinov his chin, but I don't think the chin of Ustinov will fail.
We'll see how it turns out, but so far I haven't been impressed by Usti in boxing.
That said, in the current heavyweight division and with his size and strenght, anything is possible.

Ustinov looked better in his early pro fights. He has regressed, and gained weight. If he was 260, he could be a real force. But he's 280+, and the extra weight diminishes his stamina, and speed. He does have some power in his firsts. Most Eastern Euro guys are in reasonable shape. Ustinov is not.

This fight will probably not happen. Barrett will pull out and Ustinov will fight TBA.

Seeing Monte fight now is sad sin ce he just fights for a paycheck at this stage.
Ustinov is garbage but he will KO him.

Harsh statement,cubex!
That Garbage took out Long in the very first round of their encounter.
Solis struggled with the same fighter.
Ustinov is a big strong fighter,a very decent one,but he is no future world champ.
Garbage?? :nono

He's slow, plodding, can't cut off the ring to save his life. He's basically Valuev light.Beating Long does not do anything to me.He was at times outboxed by a old past it Sprott.
Garbage was a bit to much maybe but he's painfully average.

When Ustinov fought Slowinski in Seoul when he was in kickboxing mode he closed off the ring well by staying in the centre of the ring for most the fight and moving in at the right times.
My take on Ustinov is that he is having trouble making the transition from kickboxing. I don't disagree with anyone who says he's below par but I'd still like to see him in with someone from the top tier. It would be interesting to see if he gets in shape and gets if act together if he had a big money fight on the cards.

I think Barret has not got the umph in him to springthe upsets anymore so Ustinov could put on a good display here.

I gave Ustinov's latest youtube films another look. This time around, I'm more impressed with him, although I still have reservations. Ustinov does look strong, and his hand speed is better than I thought it was. When allowed to unload on a stationary target, Ustinov also puts his punches together well.
However Ustinov is generally slow, plodding, and mechanical. To make it on the world level, Ustinov will need to have excellent durability and conditioning. He will also have to be an excellent ring tactician in order to compensate for his lack of natural talent.
Many of the same weaknesses apparanent in Ustinov now are the same shortcomings originally perceived to be in Vitali Klitschko. Remember how the oddsmakers made Herbie Hide a 40-1 favorite over Vitali in 1999 because Klitschko was thought -- mistakenly -- to be a slow clumsy plodder?
It remains to be seen if Ustinov has Vitali's toughness, uncanny fighting instincts, and awkward but dominant ring tactics.

Just saw this fight was going into the 11th round, very surprising!
Horrible fight! I was watching it on italian tv.The Italians kept saying "modesta qualita" throughout the entire fight.
:lol:Modesta qualita is was indeed!
118-109
116-112
Couldnt understand the third scorecard.Anyway! Unanimous point decision in favour of Ustinov!
He and his team are now presenting and coasting the Belarussian flag!:good:good:good
However,Ustinov didnt really do a good job in terms of enhancing his standing in the world of boxing, let alone enhancing his popularity here in europe.
I am sorry to say this but he fought as if he had been Ruiz' twin brother.
Now Swiss based Albanian Nuri Seferi is fighting. A pity that our fellow poster Artani cant comment this fight live:D

Ustinov should fight more strong fighter.
Ustinov should fight more strong fighter.
He should only fight opponents who are stationary targets standing right in front of his fists:D

I hope K2 productions manage to sign some better fighters cos their undercards always stink.
Ustinov.... what an appalling showing. Boring and his fight in the showing in the Schalke arena was shit too
