"Scottish" Craig McEwan faces unbeaten American in Quebec.

Scotland`s top Middleweight prospect, Craig McEwan faces San Diego`s James Parison in Quebec, Canada on Saturday,28th November 2009. Parison, who is unbeaten in twelve fights, has developed a strong reputation as a slick stylist with a durable edge on the tough Californian boxing circuit. Los Angeles based McEwan, who has now won more bouts in the USA than any Scottish boxer in history, is looking to extend his own unbeaten run to seventeen.
McEwan says " Jamie Parison is greatly admired as a boxer over here but I believe that I have enough artillery in my arsenal to beat him. My coach, Freddy Roach, has been working me hard recently and I`ve been getting great encouragement from my friends at the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood, including Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan.
The Scot`s morale was further boosted by a visit by Goldenboy Promotions boss and boxing legend Oscar Dela Hoya, last week. "Oscar dropped into The Wildcard and as soon as he saw that I was there he came straight over to speak to me and wish me well. He told me that he would be in Quebec next Saturday to cheer me on!"

I'm a big fan of McEwan.:bbb

I think he'll beat Parison on points. Hopefully Craig will start fighting for titles in 2010.:good

This fight won't be televised, will it?

Every time i watch craig with that style of his, he looks like he doesnt know what he is going to do next, and one minute he is a boxer, then slugger he seems a bit lost him self with his style. I remember him as a amature he was hands down type fighter. Wouldnt a bredan ingle type trainer suit him more than roach? plus i think roach has taken on to much, so i dont think you would be geting the training you need

I agree I doubt Craig gets a lot of one to one time with Freddie, with Khan Pac etc in the gym Craig will be pretty far down the pecking order, but anyway I go with Craig UD.

yeah he has bags of talent, just think he needs to make his mind up what style he wants and he could do with a trainer who can spend some more time with him. Would like to see craig go after fights with andy lee, curtis stevens or john duddy.

Murray Sutherland?;)

Murray sutherland was an underrated fighter IMO..and a real tough bastard.:bbb
He used to come to the ring wearing a kilt and he always kept his Scottish accent, even though he moved to the states as a kid.

Here is Murray commentating on a young Mike Tyson fight.

He was too small for 175 and the middleweights were jampacked with talent but he got his world title in the end. He was a tough fucker!!!

Did you see his fight with Hearns? He took everything Hearns dished out and was chasing Hearns all over the ring in the last round. Unfortunately for Murray there was just to many top fighters in and around his division, but as you say, he did eventually get his hands on the world title in the end!:good

It's a pity there isn't really any footage of him on youtube or any similar sites.

No mate I didn't see the Hearns fight. I saw the Holmes one but by that time Sutherland was looking old TBH, his record had some bloody good names on it though (inc. more than a few wins!!).

He graduated from the "Tough Man" scene in the States, a form of unlicenced boxing which also produced Greg "Mutt" Haugen.
Sutherland was cute and tough.

Interesting. I never knew that.

Sutherland has a couple of nephew's who boxed too. One of them turned pro but hasn't fought for 6 years, so i think it's fair to say he's retired.:bbb

Good article pal.:good

There is a lot of good prospects coming out of Scotland at the moment like McEwan, Anderson, Hughes, Russell, Brawley, Savage, Carslaw, McMillan, McArthur, and so on. Hopefully some of them can bring titles back to Caledonia!:bbb

Can anyone tell me anything about John Thain, the Edinburgh Welterweight who's about to turn pro. I know he has been training at the wildcard gym in California, but that's about it.:think

By the way, i thought it was interesting what you said about Craig being on the verge of cracking the Light Middleweight top 10 rankings. I would love to see Craig fight the one dimensional Alfredo Angulo!

Spoke to Craig, in Quebec, last night and he`s feeling good and ready to roll before the Parison fight. There`s a good article in The Scotsman this morning which is worth a read.

BTW, good, very perceptive post by St_Boxing_J12. However the matter is complex and there are a lot of underlying issues. I think it will work itself out in the end, though. Craig says thanks to all of you who have sent on your support and goodwill.

The early reports were wrong. It was 7-1, 6-2, 5-3. Not heard from Craig yet and they`re travelling back to LA today. I`m hoping to do a press release this evening if I hear from them. As soon as I speak to Craig, I`ll post on the site here.
Does anyone know if HBO showed any of his bout? Not that anyone here would consider viewing a free live stream......! .....anyone seen Greg?
