View Full Version : Lebedev vs Ismailov, dec the 19th,Russia
Denis Lebedev(18-0) who retired Macca for good will square off against Azerbeidjan toughman Ali Ismailov(16-2) in Russia's beautiful city of St-Petersbourg on dec.the 19th.
Ismailov is a teak tough cookie who travlled all the way to Argentine to lose a split decision against then reigning champ Ramirez there,on the Argie's home turf.
Ismailov was a highly decorated amateur fighter known for his punch.
Lebedev, a very good puncher, had been out of the game for more than 4 years due to personal problems, but gave it a another try a year ago.Since then he has scored 5 victories.
In his last outing to a ring he demolished the huge favourite Maccarinelli from the UK in the Brit's backyard.
Most so called experts and fight fans around the globe hadnt expected Lebedev to survive the first 3 rounds against the Brits.
Damn! This guy can punch! Most brutal ko I ve ever seen live in an arena (amateurs and pros) he scored against an American named Butler.
Lebedev will surely come up against stiff resistance in his encounter with Ismailov, but he should be able to win a point decision.I somehow doubt that Ismailov can be knocked out that easily. His only tko loss was due to an injury in a fight against Vadim Tokarev.
Both Lebedev and Ismailov are not big names, but it for sure is on the same level as Huck vs Olafabi.

Denis Lebedev(18-0) who retired Macca for good.......
Macca is fighting on the Khan v Salita undercard.
Should be a good fight, though (Lebedev/Ismailov). I'll find a way to watch it.

This isn't a terrible misstep for Lebedev, IMO. Good fight. Won't last too long. :yep

Don't know Ismailov, but I've seen Lebedev against Macca and the man is a killer, will surelly make lots of noise in the division. He made Macca, a former champ, look like a journeyman in there.

Even as a fan of Macca I can say that he was little more than a journeyman. One good performance against Braithwaite made his career. Macca was decent but never upto world champ standard even at the awful cruiserweight division.
It is a very good and interesting match up. I expect a tougher fight for Lebedev than his last one with Macca. I have seen Ismailov only once against Tokarev but it was long ago and I do not remember the fight in details.
Very good fight, I think Lebedev can find a way to get the TKO.

I thought Ismailov actually drew with Ramirez. He looks like a plodder but is surprisingly good. Also showed a heck of a chin in that fight. If he's in shape and ready to fight, he could give Lebedev some problems. The most likely scenario is a decision for DL, but AI will win rounds.

Me,too, emanuel! Thought that it was a draw, but Ramirez was the defending champ fighting on his home turf.Thats why I wouldnt argue the toss with anyone who had the Argie ahead on points after 12 bloody close rounds.
Yep! Thats the way I see it,too! Ismailov is a very good chin, can take a punch as well as deliver a very telling punch. He is quite slow, and but so is Lebedev.
I will put my money on Lebedev. He will probably win a point decison, but Ismailov for sure will be able to hold his own and win some rounds.
IMO Ismailov is a mentally tougher and more dangerous opponent than Macca was.Lebedev will come up against stiff resistance.

Live? A St. Petersburg event would be starting GMT+3 (so EST+8)...so 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. If there's no way of finding it hopefully it makes its way to YT before too long; should be a good one. :good

Yep! According to the news-I havent seen their encounter-Ismailov almost took Lebedev out of action in round 3.
Must have been an exciting and entertaining fight!
Lebedev has a pretty good chin.Ismailov must have connected with some truly telling punches.
I had not thought that Lebedev would be able to stop Ismailov.Props to the moscovite for taking out Ismailov!:good Without any doubt Ismailov was the most dangerous opponent Lebedev has faced up to now.

Very entertaining fight. Ismailov is a rugged customer. Lebedev did a nice job recapturing the initiative after a tough round three, he looked wobbled early in that round.
One thing I notice about Lebedev that gives me concern is that he's pretty susceptible to the straight right hand. Lebedev tends to pull straight back to avoid rights which meant he was getting hit way too often whenever Ismailov took the lead. After round three Ismailov stopped being aggressive and allowed Lebedev to take over. I'd really like to see Lebedev develop better defensive angles to negate right hands, because if Ismailov was hitting him, any of the champions will be able to do a lot of damage.
One more thing, that post-fight get-up has to go. Yikes.
