If his eye hadnt gotten his eye infected that was his next fight..
Interestingly, Mendoza was preparing for a different title shot (against WBA Super Middleweight Champion Anthony Mundine) just weeks prior to receiving the call to fight Dawson.
To help prepare for the Mundine fight, Mendoza sparred against fellow countrymen Alejandro Berrio, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) 168-pound world titleholder.
“Mundine suffered an eye injury and that fight was scrapped,” Mendoza said. “Then, I got the call for this fight on Monday, Sept. 17, and I couldn’t turn it down. Sometimes in boxing, fights have a weird way of working themselves out. I’ll be ready and hungry to fight on Sept. 29.”

Mundine would have beaten Mendoza easily.
As will Chad Dawson this sunday.
Mendoza is a fringe contender at best.
Tho he can bang i will give him that.

I heard this ages ago but it meant nothing because it obviously was never going to happen.
Mendoza is a half decent middlweight, fringe contender at best. At lightheavy he is waaaay out of his element, another easy win for Dawson.

Dawson is the truth. He will dominate the division for years to come, provided he doesn't have trouble with weight as he gets older.

yep - i was so impressed the way he took out Adamek. His south paw stance, long reach and awesome combinations will see him be a huge force in the LHW division. Does his style remind anyone else of Paul Williams? :think

I read a story yesterday saying Dawson wants to drop down to the SMW class, i guess he is young (24) so he could do it IMO.
He would be a great test for some of the champs at SMW.

Maybe some minor similarities. Williams is a volume puncher though. Dawson is more of an accurate counter puncher, whose best shots are actually his rips to the body. Williams throws his punches fairly orthadox, where as Dawson throws from unconventional angles, and is better at putting his combinations together. IceJohnScully who worked with Dawson, said on the general forum that Dawson reminds him most of a young RJJ. I would have to agree, although I don't believe he is quite that good. The way he fights so naturally in the ring, and both defensively and offensively does things a lot of other fighters simply cannot do. Watched his last fight against Ruiz and he looked good in the also. Actually fought a little bit more conventional in this fight.

Dawson would beat both Calzaghe and Kessler provided he could handle the weight. Guys like Dawson are just too hard to adapt too. Its why when people fought Roy, they threw half as many punches as they would in a normal fight (compubox stat). Because they couldn't figure out how to be effective without getting tagged. Same reason Adamek seemingly "freezed" up in his fight with Dawson. Nothing to do with heart. Just technically out gunned.

Only thing i see wrong with Dawson, could be his chin, maybe a little weak, but his defence is great and that should compensate for it.

he went down once against Adamek but didnt look to be hurt - jumped up pretty quickly

Dawson is basically a bigger framed Chris Byrd (in the respect they are tricky). Southpaws like these two seem very hard to fight however they do have certain fighters they get beaten by.
I dont think he is the truth but he is a good fighter and the weight WILL BE an issue he has some growing to do.

I've also been very impressed with Dawson. He's a joy to watch and he is only going to get better.
I see him as the only guy out there that could beat Kessler at distance.
He does have flaws atm, hopefully these will be fixed through experience though.
The Adamek fight changed somewhat when he hit the canvas. Chad easily had the ability to win the remaining rounds after that knockdown, but instead ended up losing some of them.
I wouldn't say that he played it safe because he was so far ahead on the cards, because at times after that KD he looked vulnerable, and imo, his attack would have been his best defence.
I think Chad can reach top 3 p4p.
