Even though “UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2? pulled in a cool $3,003,250 at the gate, the event only sold 6,631 of the available 10,762 tickets. Obviously, these were the after effects of losing its original main event only a month prior to the event.

The UFC comped 3,898 tickets while 223 additional tickets went unsold.

It’ll be interesting to see how the pay-per-view buys do as Ortiz is normally a big draw for the promotion.

Forrest Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz in a re-match of their bout at UFC 59 which Ortiz won by splt decision, prompting talks of a rubber match between the two former light heavyweight champions.

A third fight would probably need to be chaperoned by a bigger fight to make the event, so we’ll see if the UFC wants to put together Ortiz vs. Griffin for a third time.

To be honest, I think Griffin fighting Tito again would be a big waste of time. IMO Griffin won both fights and Tito is obviously shot. The 3rd round of the rematch was all Griffin and it seemed like Tito just doesn't have the stuff anymore going down the stretch. All that talk about him being injury free and how his back is better (whether it was true or not) didn't matter. IMO Tito quit in the 3rd.

He actually fought better in the Machida fight in the sense that atleast he kept trying. Tito claming after the Griffin fight that he was robbed is a sign of a man that is trying to convince himself something that isn't there anymore. Tito is still an ok fighter but IMO he's pretty much at gate keeper status now. If Tito actually gets another main event fight then it's obviously because the company is milking him for his market ability rather than because he's a top contender. No offense to the guy, I've been a Tito fan for a long time, but it's obvious he's almost done or he's there already.

im not surprised the ticket prices were ridiculous when i seen them, too much for a mediocre main event

They should send more events over here. 105 was a sell out in a far bigger arena.

I guess it has to do with Lesnar-Carwin being canceled on such short notice.

Ortiz - v - Griffin was no where near enough of a draw for a main event

To be honest, I think Griffin fighting Tito again would be a big waste of time

I agree with ya :thumbsup
