Former UFC[Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) interim heavyweight champion and mixed martial arts legend, Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira, is expected take on undefeated rising star Cain Velasquez at UFC 109, which is slated for Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Feb. 6, 2010.

Nogueira and and Velasquez were supposed to hook 'em up in the UFC 108 main event on Jan. 2, 2010; however; "Big Nog" came down with a serious case of staph infection, which forced him to withdraw from the bout.

He clearly did not want to make the same mistake twice in a high profile and very important bout -- Nogueira revealed after his lopsided technical knockout loss to Frank Mir that he had been hospitalized several days prior to fight night with a severe staph infection.

Tough fight for Nog, yes I know he has made a career out of moments of overcoming guys better than Cain, but without that chin of his, I just don't know if he can do it against such an all action guy like Cain. One good thing for Nog is that Cain isn't a huge puncher, but he does keep tight control on top.

So one more minor miracle from the legend, or the final test for the all heart, all action, young wrestler.

The good news for Nogueira is that he isn't facing a physical dynamo in Velasquez, like Lesnar and maybe Carwin. This is a really good match-up in my opinion.

I am not of the opinion that Nogueira is shot, though he has to be past his peak. Nog was backing straight up against Mir, and that is just something you can't do. Getting hit flush, and being stopped is not unheard of.

Velasquez is all action, and Nog is ready to capitalize. This is good timing for this fight. Either Nog has to step aside for the young talent, or the old guard remains strong.

Gotta go with Nog, Velasquez has never had to deal with adversity in MMA all his opponets where gatekeepers at best.

I don't get why you're supporting the Fertittas. They ruined their father's gambling business, and they are bound to sink zuffa to.

Start caring about mma events that have a future.

I've read this fight will take place at ufc 110 not 109.

This'll probably be a stand up fight from start to finish. Hard to say in that case who'll pull it out. I guess I'll go with Nog based on experience and his showing against Couture.

Nogueira is my favourite fighter, he looked good vs Couture after a terrible performance vs Mir so Im hoping that was an off night rather than the beginning of the end.

Nog by submission.
