Does anyone remember the fight between Maurice Blocker and Simon Brown for bragging rights of DC.. at welterweight.?

Simon ended up getting the victory and his close friend Maurice couldn't accept the loss and refused to shake hands after the bout.

The two were very skilled fighters and the thin man was so confident of Victory that he didn't want to accept the mere thought of coming second best to Simon..

He later came round and gave props to Brown, that was a great era...:good

Very good fight on the Tyson-Ruddock I undercard.

Brown's left hook that started the beginning of the end was nice.

An OK fight, both gave too much respect for each other, not least because they were very good friends, and I suspect only fought because King offered life changing money.

Yes it was like asking the Klitschkos to sell out and meet for K2 family top dog honours.. Sad to see friends fight because of the cash...

Like Tyson and Etienne, "We owe it to each other , to fight one another in order to elevate our lives.. " Cash won the day..

Yeah, it was a good fight, but I didn't like the necessity of having the bout at all. It's one thing to play against your sister in tennis or something, but in boxing, kinda sad.

But it's not like they were forced to fight each other.

One of them said something like:

"We used to beat each other up in sparring every day, so we might as well make $200,000 doing it"

Of course not. But I do think, whereas competing against a best friend or sibling is cool in other sports, combat sports adhere to a different standard. I'm not saying I don't think they should have fought, but I recall that at least one of them referenced the need to take the money.

It's just another reminder that most fighters struggle to ever make career money in a sport that can have tremendously adverse health ramifications.

But I definitely agree with your point about free will and all that. That's ultimately the defense we all have utilize whenever boxing comes under attack.
