I'm just curious. I'd like to think that I'm going for Pavlik in the fight because he's a more dynamic, entertaining fighter. But then when I really, really think about it, deep inside I know that him being white has something to do with it. I'm not sure how much, maybe 5-10% but I'm pretty sure it does. I don't think it's wrong, normally black guys go for black boxers (right?) and I don't find it offensive. So, anybody agrees? Comments?

I am white, Pavlik is white, but that makes no difference. Regardless of whether he was African-American, Asian, African, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Australian, or Arab, I would still be a fan...it all comes down to the fact that I like his personality and his fighting style.

I am white and I have rooted for more black fighters, than whites, over the years. This time I am rooting for Pavlik - he just happens to be white - not my fault..........

What is this, 1850? In my ever changing list of favorite fighters, the only white guy who has any real permanence is Jerry Quarry but I'd love the guy if he was any other color or nationality.

It's not important to me, but then again I'm not a big Pavlik fan. I just like him because he's exciting and has interesting fights. Equally, I don't like Taylor, because he's not an exciting fighter and doesn't have exciting fights.

Yes some united states white boys need to represent. Us whiteys are stuck with a bunch of club fighters and bums. Whats our claim to fame Butterbean, Peter McNeely? How many championship caliber American white boys come along? Taylor is still going to win though.:|

Whatever, try bringing Euro dominance in the heavyweight when talking to a casual boxing fan who's black. You will hear that it's just because football, basketball being popular. No way Russians are just better fighters.
I didn't say that's the _only_ reason I like Pavlik. I like him for the reasons mentioned above and for being a regular guy without a chip on his shoulder.

Stop with the political correctness. It's not like I'm bashing Taylor. I'm not suggesting that all Pavlik fans share my view either. I'm just asking. If you don't like my question see the 4th option in the poll.

Im white and my favorite fighter of all time is Tyson, but after watching the countdown to Pavlik/Taylor I feel I have more in common with Pavlik so Im rooting for him. I still feel Taylor will beat him by UD though

makes no difference to me.
Just put my name down for kelly on the month off thread. but to be honest if germain comes out and puts on a show there will be few people happier then me. he is one of my favourite fighters but I just think that its his time to lose and kelly's time to win.
On a personal level his skin colour makes no difference to me. I'm white but honestly I'd probably way rather hang out with taylor he seems like a realy straight up dude. He's got an engaging personality. he doesn't take himself too seriously, he doesn't have a big chip on his shoulder. And he seems like a pretty mart guy. Kelly's a nice guy but he's boring and he comes across as an idiot.
Too many snowflakes on this thread. I'll come back when there is more color..............kidding of course. Nothing against Pavlik, I'm just a Taylor guy.

I think Pavlik is getting love because of JT's lackadaisickal fights lately. Otherwise hes just another white dude...Its not like theres a shortage of them

More than anything im a fan of underdogs and historically speaking White fighters are underdogs.
The main reason im rooting for Pavlik is because he is more exciting than Taylor and most other fighters no matter the division.
I have no problem with Taylor and never have he is a class act all the way.The one knock i got on him is the same as everyone else. His recent fights were ugly and he didnt look like "the man" at Middle.

Most people are xenophobes... not racists.
I.E your irrational love for Kessler.
1) I can't see what xenophobia has to do with irrational love of someone. Xenophobia means nothing of the sort.
2) There is nothing irrational as to why I like to watch Kessler. Why do you hate him? Why do you hate danes? Are you a xenophobe?

Pavlik is rough and tough and can punch. He will always have fans. Its not a white thing..at least for most....ok half.....ok maybe a handful..I will see in Atlantic city who comes out. If it is not a boxing crowd and a bunch of usually UFC fans then PAVLIK is the middle american white hope guy. But he is still rough and tough and can punch.

Oh look, you could have a calm race related discussion on the internet. Without name calling or people acting all stupid. Kind of files in the face of all the political correctness that would rather not touch the topic with a 10' pole. It's also a testament to the maturity of this board and that people here are more interested in boxing than sensationalism.

I like Pavlik because as he said in the countdown show - he doesn't go in the ring to dance around, he goes in there to throw punches. That equals an exciting fight. I fell in love with the guy after I watched the Miranda fight. I'll admit I had never seen him box before that fight, but the more I watch his stuff and read about him the more I like him! :good

You just opened a serious can of worms dude.
I know what pipe wrenched is talking about... I didn't start a thread with that issue but in another well-known boxing forum I respectfully mentioned the same matter on Wlad Klitschko's fanbase ( in the US) and the naysayers back-fired hard and got me into a trap ( you know, insulted me in the most primitive way) so that I only had two options afterwards, to shut up or to answer back - eventually they achieved their goal on getting the site's owner sympathy and in short notice, I had most senior members and moderator asking for my head and the owner banning me... He alledged I was commiting the capital error or "behaving like a dick" but I knew it was because I brought up the subject... Not going to do the same mistake here but I'll state that there is always a basic (legit) reason for supporting a fighter other than boxing skills alone.
