 at the Australian boxing commentators getting overexcited. The biggest fight in Australian boxing history. Really?

'Beat a legend and you become a legend.' Not too sure about that actually.

Jones was hitting Green with Jabs regularly.... but in Boxing one punch can change anything as it did.

A lot of people are saying the shot didn't land flush. doesn't need to when it comes to around the ear it disrupts a fighters balance and equilibrium and espicially a fighter who's punch resistence has been shattered a long time ago.

Good luck to Green he did what he had to do.

RJJ Thanks for the Memories.

If this was 1999 instead of 2009 that would've been impressive.

Well at least now hopefully we won't have to suffer Jones v Hopkins - Hopkins will fight a live opponent.

Jones has been done for over half a decade, that was embarrassing.

Why did the ref stop it? Jones was covering up and trying to get through.

You think it should have been left to go on?At the end when Roy was speaking to his trainer he looked badly dazed to me.Also, his legs were wobbly when he came off the ropes briefly and he threw nothing back.He had that look like what he had when he got up from the Tarver KO

TFFP

He was wobbly but he was not bad enough to be going over despite Green throwing his hardest punches. Jones was covering up fairly well, when a guy absolutely needs to be stopped you see them not even able to get their hands up.

Look, he was probably getting stopped but Jones might have seen his way through the round and then got a minute. Who knows.

The ref was Howard Foster...

Still a fair stoppage though you could make the argument that Green wasn't landing flush.

Its a real shame alright, i just hope it convinces him to hang up his gloves. Hope he going into doing commentary on HBO full time, he's brilliant to have on it.

I'd just like to have seen Roy get more of a chance then that. My initial reaction watching it first time was 'Jones is blocking all of these punches and is trying to see out the storm'. Green looked impressive and it looked bad from the refs POV but he was blocking them. Then he stumbled a bit and the ref suddenly jumped in.

Ah well, I don't really care about this fight..I forgot it was on until I got home and logged on.

Yeah,Green hit the gloves alot so credit to Roy for that.

All in all I'm glad it was stopped.Roy doesn't need it at his age.It wasn't nice to see but then it wasn't nice to see the shell that fought guys like Ajamu and 170lb version of Trinidad.

He was boxing pretty good until he got caught :conf

But then thats his problem now. He's always one punch away from being KO'd, and thats not good at the top level when his reflexes are not quite there. Just on ability he can still compete, you saw he was outboxing Green with his handspeed which is still pretty amazing.

It's good in a way this happened becuase he was always getting KO'd by this version of Hopkins so I'll be glad not to see that because its not a true indication of how they'd have faired in a proper rematch. Also we might see Hopkins fight a real challenge.

danny green should reach celebrity status in australia now. advert for fosters and a cameo in neighbours. send hopkins over there before the county gets carried away.

Really sad to watch this happen to a guy who was the best of his generation and in his prime pretty much untouchable.

Agreed on both counts:good. RJJ is one of my faves, and also one of the fighters who really got me into boxing, and it's terrible seeing him like that. Sadly, I don't think he'll retire either.

Amen brother. Hard to watch a legend who turned out so many great performances getting banjoed like that against someone as average as Green

Really sad.

Still a legend, I won't forget how good he was. The fact they described it as the biggest fight in Australian boxing history says more about Aussie boxing than anything else really.

that's the same shot, china-chinned guy that had Calslappy down and went the full 12 getting bitch-slapped.

Toney goes down as a greater fighter than Jones now, not many would've thought that 6-7 years ago. Longevity is a big part of he game, and Jones chin has also been exposed as massive egg shells.

Amen brother. Hard to watch a legend who turned out so many great performances getting banjoed like that against someone as average as Greenit is not the biggest fight in Australian boxing history, Mundine v Green, made more money, fenech v Nelsen 2 was bigger and the biggest is Jack johnson v tommy burns in 1908, for the HW championship of the world

After watching it again if positive the stoppage was good. He did managed to block most of the punches, but you could see he was out on his feet the way he staggered back. And three uppercuts got through his guard.

ryanm8655

Enzo mac's chin is just as shit as Roy's though and he's nowhere near as good a boxer even though Roy's shot.
