easily top 10 middleweight .. i can't in my right consious rate him in the top 5 but i do believe he is around 7 .. too many excellent fighters and slicksters that would tear him up ... marvin would pound him into a cut stoppage like he did with hashmo .. monzon would pick him apart and bust him up too .. hopkins would get beat if he fought one round a time being mr conservative ..but if he fights at the high rate he did in his prime he'd give lamotta fits ...

What stuck out as the most memorable to me was what a complete scumbag he was. Maybe because the classic movie, which many people seem to remember him by (including his fighting style, in reality he actually was known for having a defense) shows him as an unlikeable asshole and yet in his book he describes himself as much worse.

Like many other fighters, I find it hard to compare him H2H to other fighters due to the low amount of footage of a prime LaMotta.

Have to agree. I read the book a few years back and thought the same thing.

Small part of Raging Bull where Lamotta (De Niro) talks about having small hands, never being able to fight Joe Louis even though he would beat him and that he's better than him. Brilliant. De Niro masterful performance. Lamotta was one of a kind.

Christ, what would Louis-LaMotta look like?

At least Conn was in the ballpark as far as proportions go...

Just look at how well SRR did against Jake with a long jab! Would love to know how he thought he'd beat Joe. Does he spell it out in the book? :yep

i remember reading in the ring magazine that they were having trouble with the making of the film because jake had no redeeming features:lol::lol:

:lol: I've said it before on here but I read once that he said he was that popular as a kid that when they played hide and seek nobody would look for him.

Jake was great, no underrating here and there were certainly plenty of momentum shifts throughout their rivalry...but the fact is Ray did control him at times with a fully stretched out jab and movement.

A fight with Louis would be literally comical to any onlooker. I'm sure the humor would be lost on LaMotta, though. Seriously, what could his "master plan" have been? No discredit to him at all, but taking a round from the Bomber would require no less than divine intervention.

Lloyd Marshall toyed with Jake and beat him easy! Charley Burley said, "Best fighter I ever fought??

Lloyd Marshall! Knocked me down and beat me good!

Maybe Lloyed Marshall was the best Middle of them all??
