what a terrible choice of opponent for a supposed dominant pound for pound champion. Great performance, but come on, Vinny Paz, who was basically an arturo gatti (in size and style...sort of, vinny paz stronger, but gatti had a better jab).

He was thing about money, Paz was a character and Roy capitalized on it. Don't make dumb threads like this.
nothing dumb about it...y so sensitive?
It wouldve been like Hopkins fighting Gatti....did people seriously think Paz would win?

Nope, but they wanna see the P4P king in action, no matter who he fights. Seriously, it was strictly about money like Oscar with Mayorga, now think before you make threads like this.
if you dont wanna discuss, kindly leave the thread then. adios. And no, this isnt like oscar-mayorga. Mayorga was at least a titlist in his division.

There was other titlists in the division, but he chose Mayorga cuz he was a big mouth who could sell like Roy did with Paz. Every answer you get will be "cuz he wanted easy money" so let this thread slide to the second page with few responses like it will inevitably do. Cuz everybody knows the answer.
with your help of course

Actually at the time of the fight Paz was ranked third by Ring mag at 168, ahead of guys like Nunn, Collins and Eubank. In fact Jones was looking to fight then number two Frankie Liles who rejected the fight then Jones went after then number three paz. I know in hindsight its a fight that people cant pick on Jones for taking, but its a fight that would have been one that people would now be claiming that Jones ducked had he not took the fight.

damn, never knew he was ranked so high at 168. I guess beating a 43 yr old duran is great for rankings.

Damm sure Pazienza was very overated at that time by beating a very old Duran. rember pazienza was outboxed by a former super featherweight Camacho.
