There are a lot of folks basing their prediction simply on two facts:
1)pavlik walked through big hardpunching miranda.
2) Taylor looked awkward/crappy vs lighthitting spinks.
So they put one and two together and they say:
YO PAVLIK GONNA KILL THIS GUY!!!
i have been hearing this all week from my local "boxing experts"!
Well, this may work at your average schoolyard brawl, but in boxing.......NO!
first off, i agree. taylor looked bad vs both spinks and winkey.
but tell me: who ever looked great vs spinks or wright???
both are awkward, shifty, worldclass southpaws.......in other words: if i were to pick two fighters that taylor would look bad against, i dont think there would be a better pick than these two!
Pavlik on the other hands has only faced one top ten contender in miranda.
and miranda stood straight in front of him.........made to bring out the very best in pavlik.
and the only other halfway recognizable names on kellys record, zentuche, mckart and zuniga, are straightforward guys.
nothing slick, just nice broad targets there to be hit.
taylormade for kelly to look a million dollars!
so be carefull what you base your prediction on!!
Taylor is faster, more athletic and more versatile..........simply something that kelly has never seen before.

He Was Walked Down By Ouma...
ouma was a short southpaw who is faster than pavlik.
kelly has been dropped by zuniga.
taylor has faced two top pound for pound guys. kelly.......

What worries me about Taylor is his apparent loss of hunger. Say what you want to about him getting mean, I won't believe it till I see it. Also, his seeming unwillingness to correct his gaping defensive flaws is trouble.

Have you seen Zuniga? And if Winky and Spinks are world renowned southpaws that Mr. Sugar Ray Robinson couldn't look good against, why were they chosen opponents? They can't bust a grape. And yeah Ouma fights all fuckin crazy, but JT should be ashamed of himself, fuckin Ouma diidn't barely come to his chin heighth wise.

Exactly. Taylor is a boxer who thinks defensively, but doesn't have a good defense. I think that low left is going to be costing him all night against Pavlik.

yes, i have seen zuniga. first time when he couldnt even drop jr. middle china chin daniel santos. still, a tough, solid fringe contender, but nothing special.
why was winky chosen?? he had beaten trinidad and the public (see ring magazine) forced it.
spinks and ouma?? fuckin beats me!!! stupid matchmaking, i would have never picked either one. NO win situatians to start with.
as for the ouma fight: yeah, he should have been ashamed for that performance.
but as you said: fighting a short, fast southpaw punching like crazy aint exactly an easy assingment!!!
punching down never is.
but im not gonna say taylor is perfect. but he is the more gifted and far more tested guy.
and its not like kelly is mr. perfect. he has been dropped a couple of times by lesser fighters than taylor.
he squares up infront of his opponents. and he appears underprepared competionwise.
sure kelly is the guy with power and physique. but if you look in the history books, in such fights, its guys like taylor that usually win this.

Not with the skills of Taylor. And thats why Pavlik is going to look like a totally different fighter than people are used to seeing.

yes, thats pavliks big chance.
Basically, Taylor has to get his act together in a big way for this fight. If he moves well, sticks the jab out and is busy, he can silence a lot of critics on the 29th. We know what Pavlik will do: he'll try to drag Taylor into a brawl and outwork him. It's how Taylor responds that will determine this fight.

I've been saying the same thing.
No one looks good fighting B-Hop, Winky, Ouma, or Spinks. However - try to remember all the fights Taylor had before fighting B-hop and tell me what you thought of him.
Manny has Taylor up in the Poconos - where none of his fighters have ever lost after training up there. Taylor is focused and that equals a win in dominate fashions. Only a couple days to go now before we back in here with the "I told you so's."
Taylor by KO in the 8th

Pavlik is taking a big step up in class. Taylor has already fought better fighters than Pavlik (Hopkins for one). Pavlik does have a punchers chance but, with Manny Steward in his corner, you have to figure that Taylor will employ the right tactics and box his way to a UD victory.

Pavlik KO 7. Keep this shit though, I've never called Taylor a fraud and I'm on the side of the fence that says he won fair and square X2 over B-Hops.

The guy has been fighting tomato cans for Christs sake (Miranda aside).
Taylor wins easily.

to me taylor doesn't seem that versatile or a ring master. against hopkins he plodded around using his youth and brute force to get hopkins to give ground which isn't that hard when the man is 40!
ouma and winky might be quality fighters but let's get real. small junior middles fighting a big middle? he should have displayed more movement etc if he is THAT versatile and good at moving.
nope, taylor will do what he normally does and that will be his downfall against the deceptively quuck powerful hands of pavlik. also i cannot see him hurting pavlik or outlasting him stamina wise.
YES! taylor does have burst of atheletic prowess, but it's not often, and indeed, he'd have to slip and jive all night long against pavlik. something which i SERIOUSLY doubt he can do. hell! he doesn't even listen to manny steward!

Man... you are in for a shock come Saturday night. Taylor will be dominated, hurt and eventually stopped.
"And the NEW middleweight champion of the world.... Kelly, The Ghost, Pavlik!"
