Recent quotes on the classic forum
"Pacquiao would get his head handed to him" (By Kid Gavilan, and man with 28 stoppage wins in 108 victoreis)
and in the fantasy fight between Pac and Ike Williams
" Ike hits too hard for Pac "
" Pacquiao would get stopped in the middle rounds " etc etc
Im bored of seeing people overrate old timers power. Ike Williams had 60 stoppage victories in 126 wins, now he may or may not have been a very good puncher but comments such as
" He punches way harder than Pac " are based on what exactly? Along with great victories and KO's there are losses to luminaries such as Joey Zodda and Gene Burton as well and a KO loss to Bob Montgomery... OK call me a boxrec warrior but dont put these old timers up on a pedestal.
Can anyone justify how instead of outboxing Pac to a points descision Gavilan would 'take his head off' and in all seriousness i would like to be educated about the power of Ike Williams, as in many cases stats dont tell the full story.

Watch the men fight and judge for yourself, yes Ike Williams probably had more on his shots than Pac at 135 imo although I don't think its a given he beats Pac. Galivan would school Pac and likely stop him late on accumulation

Boxrec warrior.
Shit post, shit poster. Actually watch some Boxing.
I don't even want to start explaining about Gavilan's power. It would certainly be enough to hurt Pac, badly.
Mentioning Kid Gavilan regarding punching power musta be a joke. Carmen Basilio would def be the bigger name.

Williams is a different matter again. Watch him hit, there's footage on YouTube. I don't understand someone picking KG by KO either. It would be KG by virtual shout out...

Ike Williams hit like a ton of bricks along with great technique. Gavilan had better power than his record indicates. I agree however that a KO over Pacquiao would be unlikely but he did stop some good men on attrition.

 Ok so Kid Gavilan KO'd who exactly? He certainly wouldnt KO a guy as good as Pac. As Mcgrain said he would outbox him to a wide descision in all probability. But his power would hurt Pac BADLY :patsch i think you've been listening to your grandpa's tales a bit much.

Pacman would have no chance against Gavilan at 147, he hasnt faced anyone near the quality at welter that Gavilan did, would be too much for him

I'm not saying that he would have a chance. Gavilan is too much at welter. But he isnt going to knock him out and he wont 'have his head taken off'
Actually who do you guys feel hits harder at lightweight and light welter.
Williams or Pac?

Pacquiao getting his head handed to him might just mean he'll lose decisively, not necessarily that he'll get KO'd, although I never read the actual post. I disagree with a KO pick in favour of Gavilan but Gavilan did stop some good men and knocked down quite a few others. His power was respectable.

Yeah lets not confuse the issue. Gavilan beats Pac, but in the case of Ike Williams it is Pacs power that is being underratted. He KO'd Sasakul, Hatton and Diaz with single shots and the majority of his knockdowns come from single shots; and yet it is Williams who hits too hard for him?
Im not disputing that Ike Williams was a very good puncher but at the end of the day he stopped only 60 of his 126 victims. Benny leonard in contrast stopped 71 out of 91!

Epic statement, Mr 'Lawyer pain-in-the-a$$'. :good

Not sure what your problem is.
I've just never seen anyone here say that Gavilan would KO Pacquiao. If someone literally said Gavilan would "hand his head" to him, that doesn't necessarily mean he picked Gavilan to win by a KO. Could simply mean Gavilan would outclass Pac.

Manny has had a fair few stoppages aswell that wouldnt have been stopped in Ike's day it must be noted.
Corners and Refs used to let fights go on to point of death almost.
Ike was averaging 10 fights a year in his prime, mostly in non-title fights were he was encouraged to hold back and go the rounds to give the crowd their moneys worth..Perhaps you could compare that to Manny just going through the motions against Oscar Larios.
Its not all about the numbers mate...but if you are hung up on them try this on for size. Ike has nearly 90% Ko rate in his world title wins...thats when he is fighting at his very best and giving it his all.

Pacquiao was on queer street nearly out against Larios.

No problem for me cause I know guys like you are some mindfreaks.
Whatever, you tend to play word-games. Did you read the actual post yet? :yep

As much as I like Pacquiao, I truly think he's blown-up at anything above 135 pounds........ These weights that he fights at between 140 to 145 pounds is NOT natural..... If people really believe Pacquiao just eats a lot of beef and drinks protein shakes all day while pumping iron, they are full of shit...... Pacquaio is doing something sneaky and fishy in order to maintain his higher weight while looking ripped and solid......... Therefore, Manolo Pacquiao is NOT a true welterweight and would probably get his head handed to him from some of our prior champions who were more suited for 147 pounds....... This "Pacquiao Fever" bullshit is getting outta control......... Peace........

Based on the fact that we don't just sit on Boxrec looking at KO ratios, have actually seen him in action and seen how hard he punches, maybe?
