Haye KO early. Haye packs a HW punch and is long with good timing and speed, just way too much power and size for the SMW-LHW sized Calzaghe, also quite an awful style for Calzaghe on top of it considering the length.

Haye is a cruiserweight now. Haye does have a suspect chin, if JC has any power left in his gloves - he could both rumble and crumble Haymaker. JCs chin is very good, but against a heavier opponent such as Haye, I don't know if it will be enough.
Haye needs to prove more to me to make a sound judgement.

haye is a heavyweight in cruiser clothing so to speak. once he is finished with mormeck he will jump up to heavy for good (maybe unless he gets a bout with enzo). he packs a heavyweights punch and has fantastic speed, he'd knock joe out, no questions asked.

Well a Super Middle didn't knock Haye down once.

Haye's speed would vanish before your eyes against Calzaghe, but Haye should still win it against an old Calzaghe. perhaps. Or perhaps not.
Would Calzaghe really do any worse than Fraga..whatever his name was?

I'd pick Haye by a KO.

At first I thought this thread was a bit of a joke. But the more you think about it, the more logic you apply, you realise that Calzaghe can infact win this barring a broken hand.
Just look how Haye got on against past opposition. Now compare those opponents to Calzaghe.

what opponenets are you referring to? out of hayes 19 wins, only one of his opponents has gone the distance with him.
the guy punches extremely hard, calzaghe would not survive a haye onslaught.
China_hand_Joe
09-27-2007, 11:12 AM
3 out of his last 4 opponents.
What makes you think Haye would get a chance to unleash an onslaught anyway? You really think 2 divisions up is too high for someone as brilliant as Calzaghe to dominate at?
Wait until you've seen how Haye does against Mormeck (his first big test) before you come out with extremisms like "Haye beats Calzaghe".
And look at the links between Calzaghe - Eubank - Thompson and Haye.
Green Calzaghe killed slightly past prime Eubank.
Blown-up past prime middleweight Eubank gave prime Thomson a great deal of trouble.
Old man Thompson beat Haye - though Haye was clearly better - but it was far from a mistmatch.

First we need to get by the fact we are comparing a guy has fought as high as 217 vs a guy who's highest weight ever was 172, 11 years ago.
Then let's get by the point that Haye could never get down to a catch weight of say even 180, so it'd be Calzaghe having to come all the way up to Haye's weight.
Let's also get by the fact we are comparing a very young, somewhat inexperienced guy against an aging champion who has beaten many good fighters and defended his title multiple times over the last 10 years.
Wait, I can't get by all those things to even begin to breakdown a fight that isn't just implausible, but will never EVER happen.

you fail to mention how 'green' haye was in that fight as well, he gave a good showing considering he was so inexperienced and up against such a quality operator. haye has learnt from his earlier errors and taken his career much more seriously now, that loss was a wake up call.
joe outboxed eubank but hardly destroyed him, and joe was in major trouble in the last round, another round and eubank would have stopped calzaghe.

At cruiser? Haye by late KO. Calzaghe has never handled anything close to that kind of power before.

As the poll and my prediction suggests; Haye edges this one.
Where are all the Calzaghe fans that said Joe would school Haye with one hand tied behind his back?

Calzaghe is an infinitely better fighter than Haye however.;)

This isn't even close. Haye is far too strong for Calzaghe and much too powerful. Plus, Haye has very good speed too.
Haye KO4

Haye would win by huge KO. If Haye was slow or a weak puncher then Joe would have a good chance. As it is, the size, strength and power difference would show real quick and poor Joe would be in a world of trouble.

Nah, if it goes past 4 rounds, Joe stops him in 6 - 8 rounds unless Haye's stamina has improved dramatically since the Thompson loss.

Haye KO5 Calzaghe
I think Calzaghe wouldn't do good above 168, and he would definitely be KOed at 200.

David haye would wreck calzaghe in the first round, calzaghe is a better boxer but the size difference is far to great, haye boils down 20-30 pounds to make the cruiserweight limit. This means whne they come into the ring joe would be outweighted buy 40/50 pounds and if you don't think that makes a big difference why are not all skilled lower weight fighters stepping up to fight the big boys.

Why would Calzaghe go in at his super-middleweight size? 40 pounds is a huge exaggeration.

Joe has fought at 168 his whole career and i was estimating him going in at 175 and as haye weighed in at 217 for bonin, i assume he is near to that weight when he steps in the ring for a cruiserweight fight. Even at 210 that is still 35 pounds so it's not really an exagggeration. Not only that do you reall think calzaghe a man who bases his style on speed and skill, would put on anymore weight than 175? (if he came in at 190 or something like that he would be fat and alot slower he doesn't have the frame to carry alot of extra weight)
China_hand_Joe
09-27-2007, 06:42 PM
He weighs more than 168 when he fights at 168 mate. At least 175.
rydersonthestorm
09-27-2007, 06:43 PM
Thats why i said 175 m8, i doubt he has ever come in weighing more than that and he isn't exactly a built so any muscle or fat would just slow him down.
China_hand_Joe
09-27-2007, 06:45 PM
He has been drained at his current weight for some time. A few extra pounds would be of benifit.
rydersonthestorm
09-27-2007, 06:51 PM
I think he will move up and fight hopkins at 175 if he can beat kessler(i think he will but you never know) or he might go for a taylor if he gets passed pavlik. I just think the idea of him fighting david haye is stupid, haye is a huge puncher for cruiserweight or heavyweight . Joe on the other hand isn't even a big puncher at super middleweight, i think haye would just walk through anything calzghe threw at him and ko him very quickly.

If (or perhaps when) Mormeck beats Haye, will the lunatics change their pick to Calzaghe?
rydersonthestorm
09-27-2007, 07:12 PM
Calzaghe has limited power at 168 so how on earth is he going to carry his power to 190, calzaghe is one of the best p4p fighters around and one of the best british boxers of all time but he has limitations. Haye isn't jeff lacy he is a 6'3 220 heavyweight who boils down to the cruiserweight limit he has legit ko power and is a decent boxer. Calzaghe slapps alot of his punch's was never a one punch ko artist and since his hands started breaking he puts less power in his punch's how can he compete with haye???

This is stupid. If this fight is at cruiserweight then Calzaghe will be carrying at least an extra 32lbs and he will not be as fast or slick as he usually is. Haye has power the likes of which Calzaghe has never encountered. Haye is too damn big for Calzaghe to beat. He might win a few rounds if he gets on his bike and runs, but the moment Haye unleashes a combo on him he's getting knocked the fuck out.

The moment Haye tries to unleash a combo, he'll miss and be countered with several slaps. If Haye was as deadly as people were making him out to be be, he'd have stopped all his opponents in 3. People get carried away with the Bonin KO. He wouldn't look nearly as quick and accurate against Calzaghe.
Haye might stop him late...but we all know about Haye's stamina.

People are talking about Haye as though every time he throws a jab, it carrys KO power, perfect accuracy and blinding speed. That clearly isn't the case.

I cant see Calzaghe beating Haye at Cruiserweight in fact I cant see him winning against many of the top ranked Cruiserweights going around. He is a Light Heavyweight at most.
rydersonthestorm
09-28-2007, 07:55 AM
It isn't but how has calzaghe got the power to discourage haye fom walking straight through his punch's and hitting him with any number of huge shots. You talk about haye like he has no boxing skill he was the world championship silver medalist so it's not like he can't box.

this is an absolute piss-take of a thread. Haye's jab is enough to knock people cold. Watch the bonin fight, that guy wasnt great but he was a legitimate 230lbs Heavyweight and he got starched in the first round by a jab.
Watch. That punch lands on Calzaghe and he's DEAD.

Calzaghe just leant to the side and unleashed an overhand left on Haye's chin.

China Hand, what do you think about Haye Vs Marciano?

Haye can KO him, easily. Marciano never had to deal with such power and skill.

It would not be on skills if Haye beat Joe.. Ifthey met at a light heavy catchweight.. Joe would just make Haye look very flawed.. For god sake he is just a puncher.. Lacy was pure raw and Calzaghe made him sorry he ever made the fight.. Haye is just a basic heavyweight puncher who has a horrendous chin.. Calzaghe is oneof the best fighters UK has ever had, arguably the best ever..

Haye could never make light heavyweight he struggles to make cruiserweight so yes calzaghe would easily beat him at lightheavyweight as he would have to chop off and arm or a leg to make the weight.
