Swansea’s Enzo Maccarinelli wallows in the Khan-Salita undercard in Newcastle tonight when he takes on somebody named Krisztian Jaksi of Hungary in a humble six-rounder.
It shows you how far the big Welshman’s star has fallen since David Haye blew him away in two rounds in March 2008 in London. Since then, Maccarinelli has also been stopped by Ola Afolabi and Denis Lebedev – both whom he was expected to overpower. He hinted at retirement after the Lebedev pounding in three rounds in Manchester in the summer in his first fight for trainer and former Preston pro Karl Ince.
Enzo, never off his feet, was never in it.
Once upon a time Maccarinelli looked like one of the biggest punchers in the cruiserweight division but the loss to Haye, now the WBA heavyweight champion, seems to have dented his spirit and he left trainer Enzo Calzaghe after Afolabi outlasted him in nine rounds in March. The Lebedev mauling soon followed.
This fight is more about what Enzo has left than Last Chance Saloon. His opponent, Jaksi, looks pretty woeful at 6-12-4 (0) but seems pretty durable, and Enzo should get three or four much-needed rounds under his belt to tell us what we need to know.

Enzo let his hands go more last night and did him with Body Shots never giving Jacksi a chance to get in it, good to see him get a win again even if it wasnt the toughest of opposition!
