View Full Version : Brit forum thoughts on Vazquez-Marquez IV?
Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez have already waged an epic trilogy consisting of 25 rounds of furious, non-stop action. Now, the Mexican warriors will clash for the fourth -- and final -- time, the promoters for both fighters told ESPN.com on Friday.
The deal for the much-discussed fight was completed following a final conference call between Marquez promoter Gary Shaw, Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer, who promotes Vazquez, and Showtime executive Ken Hershman, Shaw said.
The scheduled 12-round featherweight fight will take place May 22 on Showtime from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
"We are done. We have agreed on everything. We're excited about it," Schaefer said. "We have May 22 and the date has been cleared with Showtime and Staples. Staples is really where I think the fight belongs."

:scaredas::scaredas::scaredas: WHY????!!!! The first 3 fights were terrific, possibly the greatest trilogy of all time but having a 4th fight when they've already inflicted so much pain on each other? I worry that someone (or even both of them) could get SERIOUSLY here. It's the biggest payday out there for them but is it really worth it?
That said, I would still watch it...
Not really neccessary, is it? I think we've seen them at their best against each other 3 times now. It would be sad to see two corpses trading blows.
I'd pick Marquez given how easily Vasquez was hurt and hit last time out in his return. Marquez has the better fundamentals to rely on if they are past it.

My thoughts are that i'm glad there going to make very good money from this one but it's coming at a cost. I worry for there health and these aren't just wars these are life changing fights...they will never be the same men again. Yes i will watch but part of me doesn't like the sound of a fourth fight. There is no more to prove imo.
I'd pick Marquez as well but I pray to God that doesn't give them an excuse to have a 5th fight.

All good fights but I thought the trilogy was a little overated myself. I'd guess its the fight that makes the most sense to bother fighters, both are the wrong side of 30, fighting at the lower weights (Marquez is 34!!) and may like another decent payday (win or lose) before they retire.

Don't want to see it. Both are much too brave for their own good. Apparently Izzy speaks with a slur now as well:-(. Sulaiman actually spoke sense the other day when he said that they will end up killing each other and shouldn't fight again as well. That says it all. Rather go without this one as the first 3 were epic and both have nothing more to prove to the fans or each other, IMO.

This fight is being made for financial reasons, clearly. Neither have alternatives that can make anywhere near as much money.
I'd pick Marquez by stoppage pretty early.... he doesn't appear to have slipped that much, whilst Vazquez got out of jail a bit in his return.
Let's face it, Marquez gave Vazquez a hiding in the 3rd fight before running out of gas, getting hurt and being put down in the 12th to lose the split decision.

I suppose if this is the only way either of them can make big money, then you can't blame them for doing it.
It's actually my favourite trilogy ever - three classics where the fights got better every time. It certainly looks like they've done irrevocable damage to each other over the course of these fights and there's always the chance that a fourth fight could completely finish both of them.
As uneasy as a fourth meeting makes me feel, I'd definitely watch it and no doubt it would be another war. I only hope they get paid a lot of money for it.
I picked Rafa to win every fight and I'll pick him to win the fourth too. I think the fights have taken more of a toll on Izzy and as someone mentioned, he has superior fundamentals.

I hope I'm wrong, but I do not see the fourth encounter living up to the three bouts they have already shared together.
Even if I'm proved wrong & this happens to be another enthralling fight, they will be easy pickings for the elite boys at 122lbs & 126lbs! Its clear the first three bouts have taken it out of each guy & facing each other will only do this more-so!
I cannot see Vazquez or Marquez beating guys like Lopez or Gamboa!

It was a rare trilogy that got better with each fight culminating in the classic third act, I cant see the fourth topping it. That said they've made their decision and I'll watch it, I just hope its entertaining and nobody gets seriously hurt.

The forth of course wont come close to the third and they will both be diminished versions but fair play to them.
Considering the amount they made from the first 3 fights doesnt come close to someone like PBFs earnings from picking on a smaller man nobody can deny them the chance to make a great deal of money.
They deserve whatever makes them the most money.....I just hope they will be getting paid a shit load for this fight.
They isnt much excitement for it at the moment but when the fight draws nearer people will be getting out their Izzy-Rafa trilogy DVDs and will all be looking forward. I have little doubt that they will still put on a great show :good
Just need to hope that one of them doesnt get badly hurt.

They seemed to have peaked in their third fight. You can't get better than that fight, both left everything out there.
I'd pick Marquez (no surprise there, he's one of my favourites), and like Ishy I'm a bit of a cunt, because I also would watch it if they screened it.:good

Dont know why people are saying what is the point? The point is that the last three were absolote epic wars, and with their potentially being a fourth why would you not want to see it.

If Rafa wins they'll have to do a 5th! These guys are nuts.

DO IT! I love these guys. These guys will revitalise boxing to the days when guys fought over and over.
Israel won the trilogy. 99.9% of fighters would leave it be. Israel is a true warrior! I hope they get paid handsomely.
