What boxing do you get on terresterial TV?
What boxing do you get on the subscription channels?
How much is PPV in Germany?

Boxing is on free TV in Germany. We mostly get to see German based fighters. ARD shows fights of Sauerland, ZDF of Universum, RTL of K2 and at times other big fights like Hopkins-Calzaghe or DLH-PBF, DSF shows some smaller cards and then there is Eurosport of course.

Lots of biased chatterboxes who have no clue what they talk about= German tv commentators.
Seldom can you listen to a guy who calls a spade a spade.
The grumpy German tv commentator on eurosport is great:good Schneyder,or Schneider is his name.
He truly has guts! Called women's fighting a disgrace!
I love that guy!
As for the tv channels I love German tv.You can watch all big fights for free.
Quite a few GErman channels cover boxing, but not as many as about 5 years ago.
My favourite German tv channel was FAB.Former German heavy weight Monse was a great tv commentator.FAB covered the little fight shows which you can rarely see on the big German tv channels.
The GErmans and German tv love big entrance shows as well as weird english speaking rock bands who are tough to stand for a foreign spectator.
National anthems are important,too.
As for the crowds they are not as noisy as in other parts of europe. However, every dagger has two blades.
Hardly can you see any fights in the crowds or aggressive, nationalistic,or enthusiastic behaviour.
I ve been to fight shows throughout europe-especially to shows in the czech republic, the UK,Belarus, and Spain.
The Germans are not the worst crowd out there.
AS for the entrance fees they are very moderate and well-banced IMO.
I would be a poor man if I regularly attended a fight show in the UK:D
German tv usually covers the main event and one important undercard fight. Some tv channels also show short highlights of most of the undercard fights.
One typical characteristic of German tv is the absence of emotions.Almost never will you be able to listen to an enthusiastic tv commentator.
The Germans dont seem to like emontions on their tellies when watching boxing.

I guess it's a possibility. They showed Mayweather-De La Hoya, but not Mayweather-Hatton. It probably depends on weather they are able to get the rights cheap; RTL certainly won't spend a lot of money on a fight at 5 am at night, with two boxers who are virtually unknown in Germany.

Yes,some of the best pro heavy weights out there are either German based or fight out of Germany or travel over to Germany to showcase their skills there, but I dont understand what NFL stands for.

dont hide that subscription channel Sky Germany sometimes cover Cards from USA when Öners guys are involved. Such as Gamboa vs Rojas / Aydin vs. Ouali card or Gamboa vs. Garcia / Solis vs. Barrett..
also probably another interesting fact is that V Klitschko vs Johnson average viewing rate was 11,6 millions. While Abraham vs Taylor got 6,02 millions..

That Gunter-Peter Ploog guy that commentates for ZDF is a joke. He's such a nuthugger,I don't even speak German but I do enough to understand he was suckin Sturm's balls like Gina Wild on a shooting.
The lower level DSF(I think) channel is interesting,I like it,the one that showed Botha's recent fights.

The shows on ARD and ZDF are great b/c the breaks are commercial-free! So you can hear what the coaches tell their boxers.
And the commentary is not that bad.

Ever since the Eastern Europeans have made their impact on the heavuweight division. U.S. based media have been using the excuse that all the best potential heavyweight talent are playing American football (NFL) and basketball (NBA).
Personally I think it is pure bullshit, nothing more than sour grapes, spin doctoring of the lowest order.
I was making a silly joke about German media doing the same thing, of course they do not. It was simply my way of ridiculeing U.S. boxing media through a thread about German media.

Thanks for explaining many details about German fight coverage in your prior thread. I found it interesting.:good

I'd say they're slim...even these commentators on the large channels don't seem to know anyone outside the heavyweights and the Universum+Sauerland fighters. The state of boxing in Germany is generally dreadful if you ask me...

As a Brit, I am deeply envious of the way free German TV covers boxing, and whenever there's a ARD or ZDF card on, I'm always looking for a decent stream - not easy.
Not long ago, one of them streamed the fights online - I watched Sylvester vs Castillejo in great quality. I wish they'd do that again.
Regular boxing from Germany is one thing I miss most about Setanta.
Are ZDF definitely pulling out of boxing, though?
That`s new to me. I canīt find any clue, that they won`t broadcast boxing anymore.
The next box event on ZDF will be in Magdeburg January 9th with Stieglitz-Miranda and some chicken fights.:bbb

As a German, I usually wear ear protection when Ploog is the commentator of boxfight.
DSF box events are the biggest shame for the box sport in Germany.
There you can see the badest fights and the most funky decisions.
For example Ragosina and at last "world champion" Botha:nut.
This TV station now is on my ignore list. You really like that shit ?:think

Ploog is a disgrace for the thinking boxing fan. He badly sucks Sturms balls and always tells the crowd that Pavlik is done and an alcoholic. In most of the fights he only sees the homeboys punches...

it's a bad thing that in germany there's mainly just one commentator. now and then experts like maske, krasniqi get to give their opinion, but other than that it's just monotonous gossip by incompotent nuthuggers. it's really lacking the diversity of american dialogue between people who actually know what they're talking. as for german standards guys like kellerman are people who know what's up, all antipathy aside.
on the other hand, it's mostly free..

I doubt the success of boxing on television will result in a lot of good boxers in the near future - boxing is almost exclusively a spectator sport in Germany.
Anyway, here are some numbers for last year. Among the top five broadcasts of the year, two were boxing matches:
1. World Cup qualifier Russia vs. Germany -- 12.46 million / 55.6 % market share
2. Wetten, dass..? -- 11.31 million / 38.0 % market share
3. Vitali Klitschko vs. Kevin Johnson -- 11.18 million /47.2 % market share
4. Vitali Klitschko vs. Juan Carlos Gomez -- 10.86 million / 47,4 % market share
5. Wetten, dass..? -- 10.62 million / 33.5 million market share

I have spent a lot of time in Germany and the free tv coverage is far better than in the uk.I have a satalite dish that picks up German and other european tv stations for that reason.Sky has launched itself in Germany though so things could change, the people of Germany could soon be saying"can you remember when fights were free on zdf"whilst getting thier credit cards out to pay Murdoch.I hope not!
