Winky Wright looked beatable against Sam Soliman and he looked beatable against Jermain Taylor. His shell like defense and come forward, volume punching, jabbing style is most effective against smaller guys like kg said. With that said, Hopkins was actually the only guy to beat him and do so convincingly. Add that to the fact that he's 42 and it's a great win.

Exactly, it wasn't like Sam was rocking Winky or even making it past the defense, it was just sheer volume.

This happens alot of the time with Winky. His defensive style isnt like the other top defenders. He doesnt slightly evade the punch like Hopkins....he doesnt always have himself perfectly positioned like Floyd....he doesnt roll with every hit like Toney.

Winky is more like a turtle. He gets into his shell and absorbs it all on the gloves/arms/shoulders. This also means that, when he blocks something, he also takes a slight (very slight actually) amount of damage with it.

This is what Taylor and Solimon did to him...they threw alot and let nature take its course so to say. Noone had really ever hit Winky as flush as Bernard did...THAT is what most impressed me with Hopkins win....hell he even staggered and hurt Wright in the 12th.

I think bernard's a great fighter but his list of legit middleweight fighter's isn't that big, odlh/tito are not and never where middleweights (future hall of famers so still good wins but not exactly legit middleweights), joppy (got beat by eastman), eastman, vanderpool,echols,johnson none of these guys are exactly betetr than good contenders. I think the way people see hopkins as a top ten all time middleweight is more to do with his run of defences than his record of beating top guys. Add in his losses to taylor (controversial or not) his loss to jones and his loss to a nobody at the start of his career it doesn't look quite as impressive in my book. He is without doubt a great fighter but i think the likes of calzaghe and roy jones should be seen as superior fighters.

I called Bernard all the way, 100%, just like I did against Tarver. Almost everyone in the Tarver match gave him no chance beforehand, and many against Winky said Winky was too good. I knew Bernard had this all wrapped up, I was sure Bernard would crack Winky's defense - and he did.

Soliman threw 1200 punches at Winky and landed 11 or 12 percent. If i remember right Winky himself threw close to 1000 punches too but had a way hihger percentage of landed punches. I like both fighters but that fight wasn´t close or anything.

I question those stats. Soliman did far better than he was given credit for.

I havent been able to sell the wifey on the whole....lets spend a couple hundred on a video game and system (tho I plan on buying it soon....:D ). Especially since the baby. BUT! Im a huge video game geek. Before the baby, anytime a system dropped I copped it. Big game came out...I had it. But since the lil one...who knows.... Again...a big gamer...except I got a hot wife...so it makes it ok...

But I will tell ya....I can woop some ass in CSS and Halo pc (the latter of which I played in CAL and still play from time to time...).

I don't rank Bernard quite as high as you do, but I did pick him in all of the fights you mention. And I had little doubts in making those predictions, except for Eastman. That one I had to think about.

Against that, I picked him to beat Taylor in their first fight, so my Bernard prediction record isn't perfect.

I thought Jermain Taylor showed a lot of people that Winky's defense was penetrable. Once Jermain got his back off of the ropes, he was dominating Winky and firing multiple combinations that were hittingdominating? nah, far from it...he rarely landed flush on the Winkster. Even Emmanuel Steward said so and credited his swollen face from JT hitting his gloves hard. Bernard didn't sweep Winky, Wright won some rds...also if the fight took place @ 160 it would of been different...Hopkins should of moved up a long time ago, but the 20 defenses kept him there

Nah nah nah nah :-( . . . immediately after the fight was announced I posted it here that Bhops will take Winky out of his comfort zone and make him look like an amateur. If Bhops can make a fool out of the bigger Tarver . . . what would you expect from a step up defensive fighter in Winky. Sure Winky is a good defensive fighter but he'll never win rounds being at a defensive mode all the time.

It's just that the experts (wanna be's) here won't believe my analogy. :yep
