This deserves a thread of its own in my opinion, biased or not.

Its Scotlands most active pro gym regarding success ( show me another ) and has a lot to look forward to in 2010.

Simpson = done a ton of hard yards and a really nice guy though he never smiled when meeting/chatting and yada yada, though if any fighter in the UK deserves a world title shot, garnered or not, its him.

Burns = similar to Simpson regarding hard yards and fighting many up and comers previously, he has now got himself a world title shot.

I do hope the inactivity wont be a focal point regarding the world title shot and i dont expect so.......he has good experience.

Hughes = up and coming and training with said previous fighters can only be a good thing and personally, when seeing him previously i thought he was ok but since then and his last win i have looked a bit more and he has an awkwardness about him that i like.

Limond = well where do we begin ? He has MASSIVE experience, fought some of the best, nation-wide AND worldwide and we all knew what happened then eh ?

I am gutted to see him NOT getting fights and breaks and it is strange.

Billy Nelson = Top experience, now and previously and has developed and built a very topping bunch of fighters and always a nice bloke when i have met him.

So, currently, i cant think of any other gym in the UK that has some champs ( yes i know its commonwealth belts yada yada ) and a bit of history ( given its a newish set-up ) though im sure some people will prove me wrong, fair enough.

Anyways, am chuffed to bits and cant wait for 2010 regarding Scottish boxing.

Am just a passenger on this train but as the Brit Forum has shown, said gym/fighters/trainer get a lot of respect which is deserving, so this express is getting made.

Grease those lines, this train will NOT be de-railed !!!!!!!

Fighters, posters, randoms ( me ? ) get yer tickets here :D

CHOOO !!! CHOOO !!!

You've gotta respect John Simpson. All the tough fights he's had, all the title fights. 27 fights and his domestic opposition is unbelievable, and after a lot of tough nights he's still seemingly improving fight to fight. Not the fanciest fighter in the world but the pure heart, grit and strength is more than a match for most at this level. Him and Lindsay would be a terrific clash of styles.

I dont want to de-rail the train, cause he sounds like a decent guy, but does anyone know if he had any of these fighters from the start or have they came from different gyms, I thought Burns was with someone else and also Simpson, have they been poached so to speak:huh

I hear what you saying bud. I THINK Limond was with Wullie whathisname from Morrison gym, Burns was from the Barn, Simpson was from Blantyre at one time but not sure if originally there either. Dont think Billys gym has been going long, but somehow they ended up there, and they seem to be improving so he must be doing something right:good

aye, I think Billy just helps because it's difficult to find someone licenced to work in a pro corner amongst the amateur scene and obviously he's helpful with his experience.

I wouldn't mind seeing some of that sparring, especially Limond/Burns and Hugher/simpson.

Hang the horses here. If Simpson is trained by Danny Lee, and Limond is with someone else, that only leaves Burns does it not, so why the HYPE over Billy, is it cause he was Peter Harrisons helper, please dont round on me and batter me to death cause its just a question:blood

This thread was set up to praise the camp/gym these guys are fighting out of. There is no doubt that Billy is involved with all the fighters mentioned but he is not claiming credit for having full responsibility, never has.

What ever they are doing, they are doing it right and there is no doubt in my mind that this set up is the best in Scotland.... possibly the UK

typical thread on ESB, can't have a post offering praise where it's due without someone chipping in to criticise

Well in simpsons case he started training with billy before the 1st truscott fight and the massive difference in him is unbelievable. So billy is obviously doing something right.

couldnt agree with u more. look at the loses also 5 of them have been title fights 1 total robbery against dazzo williams, 1 very dubious decision against derry matthews, the morris fight he wasnt feeling too good before but no excuses though was beaten by the better man on the night but he avenged that loss by stopping him twice after that. the foster jr and appleby losses he just didnt perform on the night but no disgrace in losing to either of those. Also the manner of the loses every1 on points never been knocked out in fact i cant remember ever seeing him badly hurt

I've seen tons of the wee mans fights, he's never taken a beating in any of the losses, he definately beat Dazzo and Mathews, but fair enough with Appleby, wasnt his usual self. Never seen him wobbled badly at all, tough wee man for sure, gets better with every fight. I remember seeing him spar Craig Docherty, when Craig was champ, and John more than handled him in sparring, really surprised me at the time, but not now.

You have a qulality stable with an effective bunch of fighters... There is plenty of new learning for all of them and this will bring some excellent results and titles to the Gym...

I thought that Stevie Bell may have old manned Simpson out of there on Saturday, I was impressed with how easy he made it look...

I thought it was strange, but 8 months out of the ring at his age is quite a whileI don't rate him at all. He's strong as fuck but his boxing skill is terrible (sic). Simpson should have been in a different class. I heard he did very well when sparring with Burns before the Gomez fight- from what i've seen he must be a gym fighter. He's only young though but has much improving to do if he is ever to be more then domestic level.

What struck me most in both the Simpson and Lindsay fights is that when the lad is put under pressure he doesn't seem to be able to implement plan B and his boxing goes to pieces...he got away with it by the skin of his teeth against Simpson, but not Lindsay.

What is he 22???

There is no way such a young promising boxer should have retired already!! Problem with appleby is he's too eager to get in a war and gets caught too often... he's got fast as fuck hands and when he sticks to his boxing he's different class. Coming from Aberdeen it's just about the easiest place in Glasgow to get to.

As you drive south towards Glasgow the M9 becomes the M80 and then the A80......just stay on the A80 and avoid turning back on to the motorway at the big roundabout, instead follow the sign for Stepps.

The gym is in the old scout hut, just ask around.

Limond Vs Arthur ?

Could be a fine Scottish affair.

One can avenge a loss, the other can look to get a win at his new weight ( Lightweight ) as the step to Light-Welter isnt proving a good one.

Just a thought

That'll be a busy night for you Billy.

Can i just add. You were the first person i spoke to in a boxing gym. Walked into the phoenix gym and asked about about amateur training. 28 years old and weighed about 18 stone you told me when to come back. Trained at the gym for a while and lost 3 stone... Now in london and still training when i can. In much better shape for your help...
