View Full Version : Manly V Melbourne - Who will win and why?

Who takes this one out?
If I was a betting man (nrgetics eyes will probably light up now), I think the odds are pretty good for Manly because I think this is going to be a really close game.
I think there will be no more than 2 trys scored, Manly's defence has been pretty awesome all year, those cunts are just good at making great tackles and it's very effective. Melbourner's defence is pretty good too.
I think a drop goal could very well decide this one. If I was to have a stab at the 'pick the score' it'd probably be something like..."15 - 14 Manly"
So there it is. I think Manly can squeeze out a win. They are probably the more fitter of the two teams, and if anyone is to score a few points at the end of the game, then it's more likely to be Manly, imo.
God I hope I'm wrong though. :yep
Anyway, it should be a great long weekend, have fun fellas. :good

Manly - better defense, the sydney factor, Steve Menzies and Matt Orford. Brett Stewart to score the game breaker

I think Manly will win, i just think Melbourne will crack under pressure again. Manly's style is meant for finals footy, and they seem to have a bit more form. I think it will be close game until the last 15 min. With manly coming home too strong. Something like 22 - 12

Manly - if they're on their game they have the ability to contain Melbourne and grind away at them.
I think it'll be a hard tough game with Manly winning by a try (4 or 6 points).
I too think Melbourne will crack under the pressure again - from all accounts, at the GF breakfast yesterday, Melbourne were pretty uptight while Manly were relaxed and easygoing.
Plus I think Slater is still injured.

I think Melbourne will win but only if they dominate in the forwards. I dont really care to much who wins because I hate both of them.
Manly cause they have the better players, form coming into the finals, already have beaten Melbourne this year and the MAIN Factor...they have a B Plan.

Melbourne i feel will win.
Manly beat the Storm early in the year at Brookvale but only by a single point. Plus Melbourne had 3 star players out due to the state of origin.
Smith,Inglis and King didnt play against Manly and Manly just won at home.
Expect Melbourne to want it bad aswell because of losing it last year they will be very very hungry.
Melbourne 32 Manly 10

I don't know who will win but I don't think it will be close.
One side will get away with the win by 12 or more points.
If I have to pick it's Manly 24 - 12

Mate storm forgot to thank a few people the Sydney media for being nothing but COCKY SMART AR5E PUNKS who did nothing but fired up the Storm.
Thats why they did what needed to be done because Sydney made it US vs THEM in the media and it back fired. Thats truly the only reason I thought Storm would come out firing because the media here in Sydney was so Bias towards their team (of course) but to the level it was I couldnt belive it and it just fired the Storm up.
Sucks though because i have nothing againts Manly at all and sucks to see them take a defeat like that but it had to be someone after all this SYDNEY vs MEXICAN garbage went on lol so LONG LIVE MEXICO lol :happy
STORM 10 YEARS INTO THE COMP.....8 TIMES MADE THE FINALS.....3 TIME GRAND FINAL FOR 2 WINS. Gotta agree not a bad record so far?

The media were fairly level headed imo, certainly not as bias as the Melb media when the Swans won the comp. The media acknowledged that Manly were not a neutral persons team even.
Anyway, congrats to The Storm. I was certainly going for them, and was glad they won. :good
I felt bad for David Peachey though. Losing the PL GF with 15 seconds to go in his last game. He conducted himself really well afterwards though, and is a real champion person. :good

holy shit :admin
Manly looked competitive for the first 10 minutes of the game and that was it, Melbourne just monstered them!
Watmough had a shocker in defence, Beaver had a shocker, in fact it was hard to choose a single Manly player who played well.
They just never managed to settle into a groove, and they looked sluggish and like they were playing at half the speed of the Storm.
Inglis had a blinder, what a talent.
Well done Storm, you looked like you belonged in the GF, unfortunately Manly didn't  Seems they saved their worst game of the season for GF day :|

Still a great carreer and true legend of the game..Just a few seconds before Parra scored near the end, I thought Peachey tackled a player from an off side position, I saw one of the Norths players look towards the ref when it happened too. I wonder if the ref didn't have the stomach to penalize the Peach which would have resulted in Parra winning because of Peachey's penalty. They won anyway though, so no harm was done.
Yeah, something was definitely up with taylor and Peach, and whatever personal problem Taylor had with him, he let it affect team selection at a vital time. That and his selection of Hegarty.
Next year should be a good one.
I'm tipping Parra ( As usual with Parra, they have goon juniors that are ready to step up) to win the minor premiership, and the Storm, Manly, and Cowboys to make up the rest of the top 4 in that order.
Souths probably won't do any better next year. I think 2009 will be the year where Souths step up significantly again.

Beaver panicked everytime he touched the ball, Watmough...jesus i could go through the whole team with exception of Matai who played ok especially in defense.
Manly wont win a GF without a 5/8, Lyons always looks dangerous at centre but he def aint a 5/8.
It will be the same top 4 next year.
It was a sucessful year for Manly so im proud :happy:happy:happy

He looks to be coming along well, and is scoring a few for Celtic (he scored a hatrick the other day). It looks as though we will have some ok strikers come 2010.

This season seems to fit well in the Celtic outfit but since im a Rangers fan through my Scottish Background i cheer him on but always hope Celtic lose.
He is having a great season and it would not surprise me if he doesnt start more games now along side Vennegor of Hessilink.
McDonald has been in my eyes one of the unlucky strikers not be selected for the Socceroos. I would love to see him play more for the Aussie especially as we lack a speedy Striker as we have always played Aliosi,Viduka and Kennedy of late all big.
I would love to see him play a Right Wing role for the Aussies with Kewell on the Left Wing and either Viduka in the Middle or Kennedy like a Dutch system.
McDonald i thank you for Helicopter Sunday you Legend Scottie you F-ING Legend.

If not check out Helicopter Sunday on youtube. At this point in his career he hasn't shown much loyalty to the Socceroo's, but when a Club like celtic signs you up, it would be rather ballsy to go against their wishes, but thats the main reason why he hasn't been selected for Australia.
He will be there for the big ones though which is comforting. Hopefully by 2010 Matthew Spiranovic might be ready for the WC too. He's only 18 atm, but is getting time in the Bundesliga and looks the goods.
Interesting times ahead.
