View Full Version : Kessler makes Darren Barker quit in sparring

Melo
09-28-2007, 05:28 AM
According to teampalle.dk, Darren Barker, who has been sparring with Kessler all week, quit his "job" yesterday because Kessler was "too rough". Darren has a tune-up fight next friday he doesn't want to miss, now Kessler has to train with a danish prospect instead on Saturday.

To make the story even worse Barker was being followed by a danish television crew, apparently the segment will air next Sunday

If the kid has a fight comming up, What use is it getting bashed in the Gym by one of the best guys in the world, You have to think of number 1 in this sport and if it is not working and it mite effect your performence In up comming fight, he has done the right thing. Remember this is all about the fight that matters in your career. The one that go's down in the record books not sparring.

Kessler looks in shape - what a fight we have in prospect.

Judging by his record on boxrec, Darren Barker is a promising, undefeated, up and coming super middleweight (14-0 with 9 KOs). Kessler will have a harder job making Joe Calzaghe quit.

Is it me or does the ring in your photo look tiny?

By the way Darren Barker is fucking awful. That is harsh but he isn't good enough to give Calzaghe a free blowjob.

A journeyman had him out with a good punch and some pressure. Kessler would FUCK HIM UP.

Kessler is good at having a brawl, ask Mundine.

I understand the decision to leave but what did he expect? Kessler's not preparing for some 3rd rate opponent. It's the fight of his life. He'd be doing himself no favors to take it easy on his sparring partners.

All this shite we hear now about boxers making sparring partners quit in the run up to fights is exactly that - shite.

It's all total rubbish, PR spin etc and means nothing come the fight itself.

I wish camps would stop trying to leak info like this, it's boring.

This doesn't mean anything in terms of the calzaghe fight, darren barker isn't joe calzaghe and if kessler was being to rough he was being an ass, it's sparing not a fight.

It sounds like Barker "asked" for it, because on day one he apparently came out fighting like thunder and lightning and put pressure on Kessler, and Kessler was very impressed by him according to teampalles site. Perhaps Kessler thought two could play that game.

But I agree, this doesn't mean anything in terms of the Calzaghe fight, and I don't think anybody have said it did so lower the defenses a bit.;)

i read in some report calzaghe is training for the kessler fight in his garden shed gym.

not sure if calzaghe is still sparring with macranelli ?

i know it cannot be done as bute has a fight coming up ,but bute would be an ideal kessler sparring partner to prepare for calzaghe.

i do not know darren barker but i have seen kessler in sparring action before on you tube and while he mainly throws a jab, it is a ramrod of a jab and will discourage sparring partners big 16oz gloves or not.

macrannelli would be the perfect sparring partner for calzaghe in preparing for kessler , as his height and length , jab and right cross would mean calzaghe had ideal preperation.

 :rofl :yep

Exactly, it's no big deal at all. In fact, I think it's quite sad a fighter who is much more experienced making a sparring partner quit. What has Kesller learned or gained from doing such a thing?

Barker is an up-coming boxer, Kessler could have shown class & tried to help him, rather than making him quit. All the physical advantages are with Kessler, so it doesn't prove anything to me.

Why don't Kessler go sparring with someone like Klitzscho. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't make him quit, probably be the other way around.

Shows a lack of class & is disrespectful to Barker in my view. Saprring is meant to be learning curve.

It says in the article on teampalle.dk that Barker quit because he has a fight in a week or so, so he didn't want himself get more busted up in training. It's not like Kessler knocked him out, more that Barker didn't want to spar that rough when he has a fight so soon.
And imo, it isn't Kessler's job to try to help his sparring partners - they're being paid to help Kessler in his preparations, not the other way around.

So by giving a small middleweight a little bit of trouble until he got knocked out by a love tap he is going to beat a fully fledged super middleweight in Kessler? :nut

What a fucking coward you are! It's easy to say it was a tap when you are typing on your computer. Why don't you step into the ring if you think you could stay up from those type of punches.

And btw you are such an idiot - he gave p4p no.3 and the best Middleweight in the world big problems in the early-middle rounds. F*cking idiot.

Um i do box mate, but you only have to look at the shot and compare it to the left hand Martinez knocked williams out cold with to see that it wasnt a full power shot

How does judging the force put into a punch make me a coward?

No ofc he wasn't badly hurt - he went down to the canvas screaming in pain for nothing, and he tried getting back up but he had wobbly legs and got counted out. Stop being so negative. And saying "I do box mate" doesn't mean I actually believe you box.

well i could show you pictures but im not that insecure to have to prove it to someone

That punch severely perforated his eardrum.

im not denying he had a perforated eardrum but youd need some sort of advanced tecnhology to say the punch that put him down did that, was he hurt? yes but the punch that ended the fight wasnt a devastating knockout punch. im allowed to have an opinion, its not my fault you dont agree

People go on about how Ortiz quit against maidana but i support him on that because he went back into the corner and said he didnt want to continue to take the punishment, Barker on the other hand looked like he just plain quit in the round and went down, him quitting against Kessler in sparring goes onto prove my point dont you think?

Slight over exaggeration  still he was landing a lot harder shots and the punch didnt look as hard as the previous ones and didnt land cleanly

Also Martinez is more like Calzaghe style wise, Hands down southpaw

Barker sparred Kessler.
Rafael Marquez was p4p rated.
Bhop was in the top 4 or 5 P4p rated going into the fight with Calzaghe.
Alot of people thought Kasidis would have beaten Pacquiao when they were at 135 and 130 respectively.

Sorry i was describing Barker as a smaller less aggresive version of Kessler (still not a great comparison). I suppose all it takes is a punch landing in the right place, im prepared to give Darren the benifit of the doubt.
