Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero has told FightNews that the New Year will bring a serious challenge-fighting the undefeated Chris John (43-0-2, 22 KOs), the WBA Featherweight champion, who will step up to 130 pounds. Guerrero, who last month resolved a dispute between promoters Golden Boy Promotions and Goossen-Tutor Promotions and now fights for Golden Boy, said the fight will happen early in 2010.

“Chris John’s moving up and I’m giving him a title shot,” said Guerrero, the IBF Super Featherweight champion. “I’m ready to fight again and I’m ready for top competition. Chris John is a great fighter; he’s undefeated and he has a lot of experience so it will be tough, but I’m ready to take on the top guys.”

Ok, I now read on the scene that this fight won't be happening. John's advisor says he has no problems making 126 so sees no need to move up. However, he confirms the offer was made by Golden Boy :fire

At this stage I would have to go with John for the UD.

Quality fight. But I like CJ in this one in a UD. Too much craftsmanship for Guerrero even at the higher weight. Pity there wasn't a chance this being on the Mosley v Berto card.

I love these suprise matchups that come out of nowhere, I thinks its a terrific fight :good

Would liked to have seen John against a JuanMa or Gamboa but I'm good with this matchup, injects a bit of quality to SFW as well

It's not really a great match up. John is good but hasn't shown any signs of being special. Guerrero is pretty average. It's a good match up for their level, which is solid titlists but still escaping that top of the food chain level.
