Is Anthony Mundine a man or a mouse ... have your say using our feedback form below. Source: AP

AFTER Anthony Mundine controversially stole Daniel Geale's IBO middleweight title in May, the boxing world was cynical about the Man's intention to give his vanquished opponent a rematch.

And they would have been feeling justified last night, when the IBO revealed Mundine will relinquish the belt instead of complying with its order to fight Geale again.
While the Tasmanian's protest failed to have the result overturned, IBO delegates ruled that a rematch had to take place prior to February 27 next year because the first bout was so evenly split.
But the IBO's Australian delegate Phil Austin confirmed Mundine does not intend to comply, meaning the belt will be handed back in the coming weeks. "He's decided to relinquish the belt," Austin said. "Anthony is now dropping down to junior middleweight.
"It will become officially vacant when he sends in his bands for his next fight [against Robert Medley] on 11 January."

Medley and Geale are stablemates of Grange Old School Boxing. Many insiders believe Medley has only become Mundine's next opponent because the former NRL star needed to appease Grange for not giving Geale a rematch.
The pair will fight in Sydney, and the heavily tattooed Medley is considered a dangerous prospect for Mundine at the lighter weight division. Austin said Geale would automatically get the first shot at regaining his belt early next year. An opponent for the soon-to-be vacated title is yet to be confirmed.
"We installed Daniel Geale as a mandatory opponent for Mundine by 27 February next year, because we had high regard for his ability," Austin said. "It was a close fight and he deserved another chance."
Controversy shadowed Mundine's third world title, with the three judges awarding the 34-year-old a split decision.
On the day after the fight it emerged that Mundine supporters had heckled and pressured one of the judges, British official Marcus McConnell, while he was scoring between rounds. McConnell was one of two judges who awarded the fight to Mundine, 115-113, but vehemently denied the verballing had any influence on his scoring.

Mate i agree with everything in the story.
It asks is he a man or mouse????
If he is a mouse then what are we.
Id say he is a smart mouse.
If you win a fight then move on.
Geale rematch would be much the same as the 1st.
Close fight but thats all.
But i dont buy into any headline from the telegraph about mundine.
Especially one from josh massook.

Man or mouse but the story says....... and the heavily tattooed Medley is considered a dangerous prospect for mundine.
Good one massook.
That makes sense.

You do know its not the journos who write the headlines, but the sub editor?

Don't agree with the 'controversially stole' bit, I had Geale winning by a point but as I've said all along, if its that close I'm not going to argue a decision.

And yep, Choc needs all the help he can get selling this one.

"Mundine is a gutless piece of shit" is a much better heading than man or a mouse. Has a nice editorial tone to it.

TCW: "mundine will not make 154"

That is a big call TCW, and you seem to say it with a lot of confidence...what do you know about this? Why would Anthony broadcast something that he could not possibly achieve? It does not make sense that he would say he can make light middle and forsesake a title belt on it....

I think he can make the light middle weight, the day before the fight, and probably enter the ring nearing supermiddle.

Because some people dislike him, does not make him stupid.

If Mundine makes 154 I will be astounded, but like you say, maybe he knows something his doubters don't.

Lets be thankfull that this bullshit carnival act is finally coming to an end.
It's taken a while but at last the Aus boxing public have come to a realisation that a joke is a joke and enough is enough!
You had a pretty fair run, Choc and Khoder.
You actually had a few people convinced that the entire journey was one of sporting fullfillment and Aus boxing was the better for your existence.
Luckily the majority saw through the smoke and mirrors act following the Danny Green bout when the noises about world domination amounted to just that, noise, but sadly you've somehow managed to convince a miniscule number that after all the hype, empty statements, laughable rantings and "never will be" name dropping that you are actually fair dinkum!
You should send a Christmas card to both Luds and Ashley as they must be the only ones left that don't see this for what it really is.

they offer a better representation of his personality that what gets attributed to him on here, also he talks about sturm, green etc

I don't think you read it tbh, the transcript of the interview clarifies the race, 9/11 and religious views of him and you have got to respect him as a man for not being a corporate mouthpiece so he can continue to speak his mind whether you agree with him or not.

he gets money and attention through his boxing persona and his ability to put on a show

ex fucking actly Green may of retired before Garay and it was probably self doubt rather than an epithany but hes making up for it now challenging credible opponents.
Mundine had a period when he was the first to win rounds off Kessler, easily defeated Green and impressively beat the awkward Soliman.but hes done fuck all since except for Geale and that was a narrow victory.
