View Full Version : Will Amir fight Maidana or vacate
Maidana is next in line, is this a too high risk for too low reward fight?
Surely Amir needs to fight a Maidana and other dangermen in the division to prove he is a champion.
I personally think Khan can outbox him. but if he does vacate who will they go for next? Will it be because there is more money elsewhere?

By the looks of it, Maidana will vacate his joke 'interim' title first so as to fight Alexander next for the WBC strap anyway:good. Talk of it being on a joint card with Khan-Ortiz as well:

Any boxer would beat Maidana, IMO, so I think Alexander will win and would then have a unification fight with Mr Khan if and when he beats Ortiz:happy.

Let me start by saying that I believe this would be a very good fight, and would answer a lot of the questions that still remain regarding Khan.
However, I think ****** and Sky might worry about signing and showing it, for the simple fact that in the build-up to the fight there will come a point where they are gonna have to divulge the fact that Maidana lost to Kotelnik the fight before Khan took the title from the Ukrainian. Joe public footie fans, the majority of the Khan audience, have no understanding of the whole "styles make fights" shit, and will not understand that this is in fact a potentially very good match-up. They will just think "this Maidana guy got beat by the guy who Khan beat easily for the title". And, coming as it does on the back of the Salita debacle, I just don't think Sky will go for that fight.
As I said at the start though, I think this would be a great fight to test Khan.

Well spotted

I'd never thought from that perspective mate but it's a very good point!
Especially when it would be a PPV fight.....I think your right with the Sky thing
I'm with you in that Khan needs to prove a point, it would sell in the states after Maidana stopped Golden Boys next big thing.
Would do well over there for his first fight state side:good

Alexander, Bradley, Maidana, Ortiz, Hatton etc There are alot of top fighters at 140. They will all have to face each other or quickly be hated on by the boxing community. Khan should fight a good guy.
****** probably is hoping maidana gives up the number 1 spot to fight alexander. means he'll be able to get khan an easier voluntary first

So Ortiz quits like a bitch and gets a title shot 2 fights later? No thanks.

Meh, Khan got a title shot 2 fights after being KO'd. That's how the sport works.

Khan would whoop Ortiz, without question.
It's a half decent fight to showcase himself in the US with...... better than beating an old, shot fighter - Ortiz is still a name, despite his quit job.
The winner of Alexander vs Maidana would be great after that.

Yea sounds perfect, Khan wins, and somewhere down the line Hatton defeats urango again in a rematch, then defeats the Bradley-peterson winner, and we have a unification fight at Wmebley Stadium... well i can dream anyway

As daft as it is, if Khan did a decent number on Ortiz he could retire the bloke given his fragile emotional state as displayed after the Maidana scrap

I agree, I don't think Ortiz really has the heart for it.
It wasn't as if he was being dominated or outclassed, he had decked the guy three times, he was there to be taken and he just didn't fancy the job.... granted he was put down twice himself, but still - it just didn't seem quite right.
Maidana showed plenty of stones to hang in there though.

khan should whoop maidana, the shots he was catchin ortiz with were huge but avoidable for someone like khan.
I really wanna see khan get cracked on the chin to see what it's like at 140 because he looks v.strong at the weight (i want him to win though)

maidana doesnt really think much of khan i can remember his postfight interview after he beat ortiz he was asked a question about the winner of khan-kotelnik he said something to the effect of ''hes nothing i'm not worried about him''

Why dows Maidana even hold an interim title? The whole point of them is for when the champion is inactive or injured. Khan is neither of these, so the WBA are just trying to force another pointless mandatory on him.

Firstly i am not a HUGE khan fan , but i support being from the uk.
I just woke up after having a dream where he gets sparked out in his next fight. His eyes were doing that thing the undertaker does(wwe)
So far every boxing dream i have had has come true

I suppose they could just tell the truth and say that Maidana actually beat Kotelnik but was robbed blind.
I definately see your point but I think this fight would be the making of Khan.

Nope, Maidana won that fight all day long. I never rated Kotelnik going into the Khan fight, Maidana was waaay too fast for him.

I actually think Khan beats Maidana and Ortiz. He ought to fight Maidana though as I reckon he'd beat him easily and would prove he can hang with a bona fide top 10 LWW

Yeah, if he does vacate he needs to fight someone around the same level as Maidana.
Don't vacate for an easy fight. We know little enough as it is.

Hatton will never fight Urango again.
No money in it.
The problem with Khan is Frank ****** signed a 20
fight deal with sky box office. The first show was Khan
v prescott. Either a big name or a 140 fighter who has
something to offer. Otherwise no ppv money.

This gets brought up regularly on here...Frank can sign what he wants, but he has to have an agreement with Khan...no one in their right mind would sign an agreement that tied them in with a promoter for 6-7 years.

My point is that whatever Frank signs is Franks business...no one can sign an agreement that ties in a 3rd party (Khan) without their express authority, and the feeling is that Khan may well be on the verge of leaving Frank.

Judging by the column in The Sun today that could well be true. It was Mitchell beating Prescott in the spotlight for Frank, with Khan relegated to a footnote.

IMO it's time the power of promoters was reduced anyway. The way some fighters clutch to their promoters is cringeworthy..... good to see Amir taking control of his affairs.

If the fighters starting taking responsibility for matchmaking
do you reckon we would have better fights earlier on in
careers?
I wanted Khan v Mitchell at super feather.
Degale v Groves.NOW
Price v Fury.NOW
Bellew v Oakey/McIntosh then Cleverley.NOW
These fights on saturday night would pull the viewers in.
I don't care if a fighter gets beat, the best usually do cos
they set their sights high.
I love boxing but ufc has the right idea. Mostly fair fights with
incentive to go for the win. Couple of wins and your looking at a title
fight. I know there is less fighters in ufc but they do know how to
put on a show.
