Jerry Quarry had the luxury of fighting in one of the best rated eras in the sport's history, while Witherspoon fought during the il faded 80's.

Witherspoon had the claim to two Alpha titles, the WBC and WBA, while Quarry's cliam to faim was having his name linked to Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

Quarry had wins over Floyd Patterson, Earnie Shavers, Ron Lyle, Buster Mathis, Mac Foster, Jack Bodell, Lorenzo Zanon, Thad Spencer. Tim Witherspoon had wins over Tony Tubbs, Greg Page, Renaldo Snipes, Frank Bruno, James Tillis, James Smith, James, Broad, Carl Williams, Jose Ribalta and Jorge Luis Gonzalez.

Both had great resumes, but only one had real stardum.

You be the judge as to who was the better of the two :good

While Witherpsoon might have been a bit of an underachiever, he did achieve a lot.

Witherpsoon beat some good bangers too. Frank Bruno, Bonecrusher Smith, Greg Page, Renaldo Snipes, and Jorge Gonzalez.

Witherspoon also defeated some good boxers in Quick Tills, Tony Tubbs, and Carl Williams.

One difference between Witherspoon and Quarry was Witherspoon proved he could make a very good showing vs a prime all time great in Larry Holmes. Quarry was badly outclassed by Ali, and did not make the distance with Frazier.

In a head to head sense, I think Witherpsoon was a little better than Quarry. Witherspoon was a better boxer, a better puncher, a smarter fighter, and had the better chin / resistance to cuts. History never saw Witherpsoon vs Tyson. IMO, Witherspoon would have been Tyson’s toughest test in the 1980’s.

Quarry - Frazier/Ali - both 1 sided - other losses to Norton, Chuvalo, Ellis, Machen

Pinklon Thmoas - Holmes/Thomas - both very close, Smith - already beat smith took him for granted and got caught cold - Thomas lost allot of fights at the end of his career when he was completely shot and these shouldnt be held against him

Witherspoon did better against the elite. He also has the overall better wins and broader range of wins
