I think every ethnic race does that to be honest. And its okay. I have yet to meet a Puerto Rican that didnt like Trinidad, or Cotto. And i have yet to meet a Mexican that didnt Like Julio Cesar Chavez or Erik Morales. I dont think i will EVER meet a filipino that doesnt like Pac. So for British asians,(****stanis,Indians,Bengalis etc.) I think it's normal for them to like Khan because he is the first South Asian world Champion.

Most people i know tend to curve toward the "Freddie Roach" factor - i.e. they'll support / follow whoever Dr. Roach ;-) views as his star pupils.
...Ellie Seckbach is a good example.

I am a Pac Man fan, they way he dispensed Ricky Hatton aS something else... I went to that fight, it took me longer to check in at the Airport than the fight lasted...
I am looking forward to watching Pac Man v PBF... I think that PBF will have too much for Pac Man in every department...
I hope that Pac Man can prove me wrong...:good

It's got fuck all to do with race; good fighters have big fanbases- it's really quite simple.
Of course I am a Pacquiao fan, even when the bastard keeps going out of his way to beat up my favourite fighters:fire:lol:. Anyone who isn't a Pacquiao fan isn't a true boxing fan anyway as if you can't appreciate his fighting style, his accompishments or his personality, you are a cretin. The cheerleading and slating that goes on on the general forum is quite pathetic at times, IMO.
Leave race out of it please:good.

x2.
Khan and Pac are popular because they're exciting fighters. One is P4P the best boxer in the world and the other is possibly one of the hottest prospects on the scene.
There are other asian fighters in the UK - Yaseen [somebody] and another cocky little flyweight (I can't remember his name but he's featured on a thread for the most ridiculous ring entrances). - These fighters DO NOT have huge asian followings despite being Asian.
People love exciting\talented fighters. Colour and race doesn't and shouldn't come into it. Period.

Do these people not watch sports at all? I'd guess any sports fan in the UK would know who Khan is.
I'm Asian myself and know a lot of people who support Khan just cos of his race. Some do like Pac though but that's more due to the Hatton fight. :think

I supported pac ever since the morales fight with the only exception being against hatton. Khan good fighter but I think he needed that defeat to prescott because it gave him a rocket up his arse and realised that a lot of work needed to be done before he could make it at world level and now with roach he his showing the potential what he had at the olympics.

Nothing wrong wih your post at all.
Like it or not, race does play a part, lets not get all over sensitive and PC here just for the sake of it. Pac is my favourite fighter yes, but I wasn't really a Khan fan. However, as an Asian (Indian), I understand a lot of the problems Khan goes through, I can relate to him and I wish him all the best cuz he's got too many bitter, jealous haters.
PR's support fellow Ricans, Mexicans support fellow Mexicans etc, just the way it is, you can't deny this. These guys are not just boxers, they are heroes. When Pac fights, every Fillipino in the world is fighting with him, cuz hes a symbol of the warrior spirit in their people. He gives them hope that no matter what background they come from, they can reach the top. Of course being an exciting fighter is gonna make him popular with all races.
How many of you know Sikhs? These guys are like the Irish people of Asia. Martin Rogan is probably their favourite fighter. They probably love Ricky Hatton too. Shit, who doesn't like Ricky Hatton?

I do watch boxing now and again but nothing like some of the guys here, some are good enough to be in mastermind
