fight started valuev taking the centre, Bergeron circling and not doing much

1. Round 10-9 Valuev!
ChrisPontius
09-29-2007, 04:53 PM
Round 1 utterly boring.
Bergeron made a total of 3 attacks (!) during the entire round and looked horrible, landed nothing. He ran (walked) around the ring backwards all the time, Valuev landed a right hand and an uppercut. He didn't land much but at least was active and took the round. Valuev 10 9
first round goes to Valuev Bergeron was staying away from him
valuev tried to jab, landed 2 right hands and a right uppercut in the first
10-9 valuev
Zhaakal
09-29-2007, 04:54 PM
Yea first round was snail paced... Valuev pressed the attach and cought him with a right and an uppercut.
bergeron will get knocked out, it's just a matter of time

Round 2. 10-9 Bergeron!
bergeron landed a punch hooray
ChrisPontius
09-29-2007, 04:57 PM
Round 2 Bergeron
He did a bit more, they traded punches a few times, Valuev had the best of the first two minutes but Bergeron landed a straight left hand (southpaw) that actually buckled Valuev's knees, strange, his punches are very slow and seem to have little snap.
big punch landed from Bergeron but round 2 goes to Valuev
Zhaakal
09-29-2007, 04:57 PM
2 round.
More action than in the first. Valuev got some good shots in at the firs half but at the last 30 secs got hit by a nice shot from Bergeron that buckled him for a sec.
brooklyn1550
09-29-2007, 04:59 PM
Bergeron is a slow starter. Not because he likes to take time and analyze his opponent, but because he likes them to get increasingly confident. Once they can smell victory, he turns it on, demoralizes them, and crushes them. Valuev will be no different.

Round 3. 10-9 Bergeron!
ChrisPontius
09-29-2007, 05:01 PM
Round 3 for Bergeron again. He seems to copy Chagaev's book on how to beat Valuev exactly, coming in and throwing double straight left hands and backpaddeling the rest of the time. It works well.
Ok 3 round to Bergeron he was doing more and landed often
Zhaakal
09-29-2007, 05:01 PM
3 Round
To bergeron. Valuev i think cought him with a right uppercut in the start. Bergeron is frustrateing Valuev with his left hand. Bergerons left hand is his best weapon so far, finds it's target a lot. I'd give this round to Bergeron
brooklyn1550

ChrisPontius
09-29-2007, 05:05 PM
Round 4 i had a draw.
Both men landed powershots (one or two), Valuev threw more and came forward but most of it was not effective, i.e. not much landed.
An interesting observation, i actually saw Valuev take a step back. I've never seen him do that other than when he got tagged.
Zhaakal
09-29-2007, 05:05 PM
4 round - Bergeron
Valueb only got 1 shot in while Bergerons left keeps finding the target. Bergeron the faster and more mobile man. Valuev does look calm though.

Round 5 - Valuev
Valuev scored more and got a couple of hard shots in. The overhand left from Valuev made the sweat fly from Bergerons head.
ChrisPontius
09-29-2007, 05:09 PM
Round 5 Bergeron. Again he landed good quick left hands. Valuev also landed a few hard right hands though. Interesting is that he seemed to put his body weight behind a few, whereas normally he throws arm punches. He also made Bergeron miss a few times. He's not a "completely different" fighter as he promised, but he did make a few changes.
I can't see much difference on Valuev boxing skills

A very even round but i'd give it to Valuev couse he was pushing the attack, every time Bergeron tried a combo he blocked it.

I'm still expecting Valuev's sheer mass to tire out Bergeron, and for Nikolay to rally for the late TKO win.
Interesting to hear Bergeron's success with little more than a decent straight left, though.

ChrisPontius

Round 8 Bergeron.
Same story with the left hand.
Interesting fact is that Valuev has landed at best 5 jabs in the entire fight. Bergeron completely neutralised Valuev's jab using footwork (Valuev is too slow off foot) and glove blocking. Bergeron himself barely uses jabs, like most of Valuev's opponents.
Valuev should cut off the ring better to compensate for his slow speed of foot.

Round 9 Bergeron.
Valuev is so far behind that he can only win with several knockdowns or a knockout, on my card. Although you never know when Valuev fights (bad judges). Bergeron is showing no sign at all of getting tired. I think he'll cruise to a safe decision, which is almost becoming a shutout decision.
He's doing better than any other Valuev opponent up to now, including Chagaev, Ruiz and Donald.

Round 10 - Valuev
Valuev is backing him up, poppin the jab and hitting nice body shots. Bergerons seems to be looking for a one shot KO wich is very tupid, he should be more on his toes, box, not look for a one shot KO.
ChrisPontius
09-29-2007, 05:30 PM
Round 10 to Valuev, for a change.
He did a fairly good job of slipping the left hand from Bergeron, which suprised me. He landed a good amount of jabs (for the first time basically) and a few right handed body shots, giving him the round. His jab looked pretty hard, by the way. But he needs to do more to win the fight.
Bergeron look as much as a 30-to-1 underdog (vcash betting) as Douglas was 44-to-1 against Tyson.

Roudn 11 Valuev
He landed a VERY nice short right hand, something you won't expect from him, but was too slow to follow up and didn't really stun Bergeron. Despite his size he lacks great power. He did land some good jabs also and does a nice job, again, of slipping the left hands from Bergeron. Seems he solved some problems but is it too late? He does keep up the tradition of coming on strong in the last rounds.

Round 12 Valuev.
Crowd going crazy despite not all that much action. Valuev tagged Bergeron with some hard shots and caught him on the ropes a few times. Valuev was doing a SRL imitation with the windmilling right hand and then throwing a jab. He also did the Ali shuffle (or something that looked like it). A bit embarassing but he did win the round fair and square. Bergeron was completly neutralised now that he consistently ducked the left hand. If only he did it earlier.
Bergeron 7-4-1 is my scorecard. Clear win for Bergeron.

The FBI drugged Bergeron. There is no other explanation.
Either that or Valuev had glass in his dreads.

Yea, Valuev was more on his toes and boxing, puting combos togeather, useing his jab a lot, when close hiting nice body shots and even a couple of hooks a couple of times. Like i said before, Bergeron was counteing on his left hand to try to KO Valuev with one lucky shot. If Bergeron would have been on his toes and boxed he might have won couse he had a nice jab and his left was very good also.

Gotta love the German live translater for the broadcaster, by the way.
Bergeron: He threw a lot of punches, but not many of them landed
Translater: Valuev threw really heavy punches
''fraglich'' means questionable

Bergeron threw the fight. As cross_trainer said, "he is a cunning man that Bergeron." He knew that he needed to taste defeat and come back even stronger just so the public would realize that he could face adversity. Because if he fought like he normally does, he would steamroll anybody - Wlad, Peter, Tua, McCall, etc - and then the public would have doubts about his resolve and heart.
A perfectly calculated decision by JFB which should help him and his legacy in the long run.
Expect him to win his first belt within the year and then set his sights on Wlad.

Gotta say, Bergeron shows a lot of sportmanship. He thanked the German public for a nice reception etc, right after in my (and his) opinion losing a fight he should've lost.

IT is the ONLY conceivable explanation.

I hope you're right, but I heard that Valuev tried to Ali Shuffle on Bergeron.
Bergeron once killed a man for such disrespect.

Valuev should face the winner of TOS/Meehan next, the winner could then have a decent claim for a title shot.

For those who saw the fight, how do you think Valuev would do against Klitschko, Maskaev, Ibragimov, or Peter?

I think Klitschko and Ibragimov would beat Valuev rather easily.
Peter would probably beat him as well.
Maskaev.. tough one.

Judgeing from the fight i'm pretty sure he would get his ass handed to him by any good heavyweight. Bergeron was decent but Valuev would loose to a good heavy. I wouldn't be suprised if Klitchko could KO Valuev in 6 rounds.

If he can take wlads jab and wlad fights his grabbing style and Valuev gets in the later rounds maybe Wlad gets tired and Valuev lands a lucky punch
Ibragimov would clearly win by U.D like in the Briggs fight
I'm not sure about Peter vs Valuev both with good chin's and low skills but Valuev has the better jab and the longer arms.
Vitali, Povetkin ,Ibragimov and Lyakhovich would beat Valuev on points
Valuev would K.o Maskaev

Does this put Chagaev into perspective perhaps? Guy wins close over Valuev, wins close over Ruiz and close over Virchis.
That, in my opinion, is not elite level, that's near the level that those 3 second tier level guys are.
The scores were terrible. I watched this fight on t.v. and draw would be most reasonable.

Anyone who says the Chagaev-Ruiz fight was close should no longer speak about something they did not watch....
And don't discredit the gameplan Chagaev implemented and executed beautifully against a 7 footer with an iron chin.
And he beat Virchis, which is a great win.
In sum, Chagaev's resume is clearly superior to Peter or anyone else other than Wlad. Fact.
