ALEX ARTHUR has revealed that he turned down a title bout with WBO Inter-Continental lightweight champion Kevin Mitchell of Dagenham.

The 31-year-old Edinburgh boxer was approached by match-maker Dean Powell on promoter Frank ******'s behalf to challenge undefeated Mitchell at Wembley Arena on 13 February.

But Arthur claimed yesterday that it was too short notice due to the fact

that the injuries he sustained in his recent defeat by light-welterweight Nigel Wright have not yet fully healed.

Arthur said: "The cut to the side of my right eye is coming along nicely, but it will be another five weeks before the one above my left eye heals completely and the doctor told me I would be stupid to contemplate sparring before the end of January.

"That would not leave me anything like enough time to prepare properly for a bout in the middle of February, but when I asked if they could put the Mitchell fight back a month or so they said that was not possible."

[Only registered and activated users can see links] fuck for that, surely they could get a better opponent for Mitchell.

Maybe the Scottish are scared of Mitchell :hey:lol:. First Limond and now Arthur.

I thought Arthur said to Bunce he wants back around February-March?

I think it's wise he didn't and also for us as fans it wasn't going to be a great fight with a man coming off losses left right center recently. Arthur needs to get some wins then he can get back into that scene.

Arthur & Limond would be better of retiring, their get up & go seems to have got up & gone some time ago.

I see what you are saying Dunky but as you well know, boxing is full of stories of men who hit a rough patch and could have given up but fought back and achieved better and bigger things. Look at Ryan Rhodes?
I'm sure it must be a very hard thing to look back and think "What could have been?"

& I see what you are saying MIk.

However, Rhodes fought his Jamie Moore, thats the difference. Arthur & Limonds 'Jamie Moore' was kevin Mitchell, but both knocked the fight back for differing reasons.
Both had a chance to do a 'Ryan Rhodes' but both said "thanks but no thanks"

You know me MIK, I live & breathe scottish pro boxing, live & die by scottish fighters success in the ring.

I am also honest as the day is long though, & I stand by my earlier post that if Arthur & Limond dont want a fight against a very beatable big name opponent like Mitchell when both of their careers have hit the buffers, they are as well hanging up the gloves.

I suppose you're right Dunky but then again Rhodes had many fights on the comeback trail to prepare him for a shot at Rhodes where as Arthur or Limond would simply be straight back in at the deep end. I agree it's a winnable fight for both of them but I can't really blame them for wanting an easier route for a come back trail (although they might not get given the chance).

Who knows? You have to sympathise with these fighters, after all they have to make decisions about their career while still trying to put food on the table, unlike footballers. Do they follow their boyhood dreams and take risks or do they do what's best for their families?

It's a good short notice fight for Mitchell but a poor fight in General. They should put him in with Wright considering he got the win.

Now you are talkig like an ESB brit forum fan, rather than an average joe boxing fan achilles.

What sells more, Wright the guy who got a close decision over Arthur, or Arthur, the former british, european & world champion who is drinking in last chance saloon?

Fuck Wright the domestic gatekeeper who got a hometown decision over a past it Alex Arthur.
The average joe would rather see Mitchell taking on a former champion of all levels in a 'Scotland v England clash.

Open your mind FFS achilles. I could have forgiven you if you were a noob for that kinda post, give yourself a shake for fuck sake!!!:deal

Laugh all you want, but Alex Arthur is what he is, was what he was.

It may be hard for the haters to stomach, but Alex Arthur has achieved so much more than many boxers fawned over on this forum nowadays like they are modern day brit boxing big-uns.

Its not rocket science buddy, Limond wants better money than hes been offered.

Have you been on a christmas night out or something?

I will laugh all I want Dunky. He was domestic/Euro level and nothing more mate. Gomez spanked him around that night and whatever promise he had, he left a big part of it in that ring. Sinitsin was hardly the greatest of Euro champs and Burns had had less than 15 fights. Guzman would have seriously injured him so in a way it was a good thing that that fight never came off. I'm not a hater at all Dunky either. I have huge respect for the lad as I do for all boxers and he seems a top top bloke (almost too nice) but he is seriously seriously overrated by some people

Even I have my limits, & I dont want to be arguing on christmas day lads, & I am sure you dont want to be either.

So lets pick this argument back up in 2010, if we are all still lucky enough to be here.
Until then merry christmas:good

Limond has been on here and made it clear that the money was shit. He rates Kevin so he wants to be paid for it. There is obviously the Khan link as well.

Now what seems more likely.......

Limond ducking a fight

or

****** not paying a fighter what he is worth!

You decide

Happy Crimbo ESB!!!
