I like both guys and i feel that Pirog is very elusive to straight punches thrown to the head; but i feel that Macklin is more proven with greater experience in tough fights. Although Pirog has good head movement he is often relatively stationary and stays at mid range. Macklin is going to go to the body and wear down the body of Pirog to a close descision, Pirog lacks the power in his punches to keep off a guy like Macklin who will keep coming in. As long as Macklin applies intelligent pressure like he has in his last two fights instead of regressing to the Billy Graham fighter he once was then i feel that he will take this.

I have not seen much of Pirog but have been reading about him for a long time. I am a fan of Macklin and think that right now he can edge a decision but that all depends on how good Pirog really is. Pirog could turn out to be great and hand Macklin a real lesson or he could be another dodgy prospect who gets upset when he faces a proven dangerous fighter. This is a great fight no doubt.

I find this difficult to judge based on Pirogs opponents which make it hard to guage just how good he is. If he beats Macklin though I think he definitley deserves his shot at Sylvester. That said, I feel Macklin is definitely ready for Sylvester too. About time we saw someone outside of Germany and the US holding a 160 belt for a change.

This is the point. Macklin is proven, pirog is not!

I'm not saying Pirog isn't good but I know who my money will be on.

Kofi Jantuah is a better opponent than anyone macklin has ever faced he kod marco antonio rubio in one round and arthur abraham couldnt ko him in their title fight, and pirog totally outboxed and outclassed him, macklin is in big trouble.

I still think in general Macklins faced stronger opposition. It'll be a good fight.

To be honest both would probably beat Sylvester handily.

Pirog wins a UD.

Macklin then needs to man up and fight Barker. Barker will school him.

I don't know about that. Asikainen was more highly rated going into his fight with Macklin than Jantuah was before fighting Pirog.

Taking nothing away from Pirog who put his punches together well and moved well in that fight but Jantuah didn't look the same fighter who KO'd Daniel Santos all those years ago and looked to have deteriorated a fair bit from his fight with Abraham. He looked slow and sluggish, didn't throw much back and wanted time off during the rounds. Macklin will definitely be a more difficult proposition for Pirog.

I'd definitely say Macklin has faced the tougher opponents overall and will be a step up for Pirog. I wouldn't be totally shocked if Pirog was too elusive and got a decision but I would make Macklin favourite, he punches with much more authority than Pirog for one thing.

I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but, I saw my mate fight both, and be outpointed by both, definitely more comprehensively by Pirog.

That being said, in my heart of hearts I think Macklin would outwork the lad & stop him late on.

If my mate could get his head right he'd beat both (yes, I am very biased).

fair enough but macklin beat an out of sorts elcock and a fighter whos well past his best and suddenly pavlik should be running scared.neither macklin nor barker are anywhere near deserving of a shot

Im not macklins biggest fan but if he beats pirog which is a WBO title eliminator then that pushes him and shoulders ahead of anybody else in the MW division in terms of who deserves a shot at pavlik, now will he beat either? thats another story.......
