Wrong End of Body that creates .Foot Speed.
Wrong End of Body that creates .Foot Speed.
Indeed. IMO foot speed is largely the result of coordination, in other words agility. It does not depend on muscular contraction directly, and therefore adding weights, even if it were beneficiary, would not matter much to the end result. If your footwork stinks you shadowbox, pretending you are boxing an opponent, while watching your footwork. Move laterally and punch, move back and forward and punch, etc. Move while punching, that is what footwork is supposed to be. Or getting you out of trouble, but it isn't boxing if you do not punch.

the punches may create when you step or spin (footwork) but i think the O.P is talking about the actual spin or the movement from in range to out of range.
For most fighters they can not punch properly until there feet are set, so its debatable to say where speed actaully comes from.
Speed is also in the mind, if you think quick, you move quick

Hmm I'm not sure about that. I agree that weights don't make you faster, but I disagree about the muscular contraction. You build up something called "quicktwitch fibers" and this is what builds your speed

I think this would be true for people who already have good foot movement. Weight will slow you down causing you to over compensate for your loss (both physically and mentally). It would be especially good for in the later rounds of the real fight when you're fatigued and sapping into experience.
You wouldn't to it all the time though, use only as a speicific drill.
It's good to practise heavy feet while you are fresh and thinking clear.

I sincerely doubt you'll build fast twitch muscle fibres by sticking weights to your ankles.

Speed of Foot comes from where the Head is in relation to the Toes Balanced between the Ears. Helps the neuromuscular system with Balance against Gravity.

i think the idea of using hand weight on a tread mill is for muscle endurance in your shoulders, it will help you keep your hands up when you get tired. I dont think the hand weights are meant to make you run faster

put simply, any sort of muscle resistance will make you stronger. If done correctly will make you quicker

A little thing I do when on a Track, is put a small Parachute, I have them made on the Head. Its about 2ft round the string attachment 3ft works wonders for speed, and Neuromuscular adaptions.

I know that weights on your ankles don't build those. I was saying that the quick twitch muscle fibers is what allows you to run fast

Yeh that and good genes.

If you're trying to build up endurance in your shoulders just hold you f*in arms up and punch whilst running. You don't need hand weights for that.

good stuff guys thanks, yea my notion was since holding weights while you shadow box seems to help speed, that the same would apply for your feet, besides, i figure it could only help since it is a resistence drill, if anything ive tried it and it has had a placebo effect on me! HAHAHHA
