after hurting taylor, he didnt hurry himself, he calmly picked his spots, looking for openings and found them with the uppercuts......first a left, then one with his right hand.

and as for the stoppage: some people called it bad........but that is bullshit.

More importantly, Pavlik actually punches with leverage. The massive number of missing punches that Calzaghe threw weren't exactly devastating either.

What I and people love about Pavlik is his ability to finish. I mean he hit taylor with that right and 3 seconds later fight was stopped. I mean this is something you cant teach. This is what impressed me the most, hes rare in that regard

I think that depends on what he does next. The rematch ain't gonna be easy but he'll go into it even more confident and I think Taylor's confidence may be dented and I personally think, deep down, that he already didn't have that much self belief to start with.

Pavlik should stay at MW for a while as there are some good fights there for him. Maybe SMW is a division he may grow into in time...but not yet, there's no point.

This is a good thread, for the reason that Pavliks ability to hurt & then quickly finish an opponent is his major attribute in the sport. And its his physical size & great punching technique that gives him this advantage.

I've always said that Pavlik is great at picking his shots. High workrate with a lot of average weight punches & then WHAM! In comes the bomb!

yup great finisher indeed.

power, maturity, intelligence and killer instinct will make him very dangerous at middleweight. give him a few years and he might replicate that at super middle as well. but not now. he needs to enjoy his kingdom first before a risky move north. the longer he waits the better he will be when he does eventually move up.

He definitely is a technician when finishing opponents. Very cool and decisive when throwing certain punches. The uppercuts he throws are devastating -- ask Zurache. Taylor says he punched himself out in the second -- i don't believe it. You are supposed to be able to throw that many punches to finish a guy off -- especially in the second round. Of course, Pavlik would have actually killed someone if he threw 15 clean shots with power on someone. Pavlik withstood his winging shots. I hope Pavlik learns alot from the film of this fight that he will keep his hands up -- work on his defense and clinching more -- especially when he is hurt. Notice how he never got rattled too much after the second round? Any clean shot with alot of speed can hurt you -- that's why Pavlik got hurt -- he fought a guy that had speed and good power.

I think if he studies the film and tightens up on his defense and keeps throwing MORE jabs setting up the right hand -- he'll beat almost any middleweight out their. Notice how Tommy Hearns fought Hagler and Sugar Ray. He danced when he was hurt or scared once he got hurt. Pavlik doesn't do that -- he stays flat footed and fights a very technical fight.

Hate to say it, but "white men can't fight" is the general consensus. He really had to prove himself. Many, many times. Now, there is no doubt whatsoever.

The first jab-straight right hand did the damage. Then Taylor backed up a few steps, jab-right hand again. Taylor falls back into the ropes, and you're right, a beautiful flurry ended it.

The left uppercut did the most damage.
