View Full Version : Napa to fight for Euro title (again)
Ian Napa has been handed a chance to regain the European bantamweight title.
The slick Hackney boxer (19-7) has been nominated to face Frenchman Jerome Arnould for the vacant title, which is likely to take place in March or April.
Napa, 31, will still press ahead with his British title defence against Jamie McDonnell at Brentwood Centre on Friday January 22 despite his date against the former world title challenger.
Promoter Frank Maloney said: "The pressure is on now for Ian, because a loss to McDonnell and the EBU will withdraw their nomination.
"The fight against McDonnell is all or nothing for Ian, but if he has prepared right McDonnell cannot beat him."
Arnould, 24, is on a eight fight winning streak and unbeaten since being knocked out in the seventh round of a WBA bantamweight title challenge Wladimir Sidorenko in June 2007.
Napa lost the European title ten months ago when he was shocked by Arnould's countryman, Malik Bouziane.
Anyone know anything about Arnould? Any good?

I've heard his name before. He's fought for the WBA title. His record looks nothing special.
Here's some footage of him

From brief looks at him he doesn't look good under pressure and looks like he panics. Napa isn't a pressure fighter as seen when losing his title and this guy looks like he has the height and also same movements of Bouziane. Hope Napa learn't from that lesson.

Pointless. He is well below that level and a really boring fighter to watch.
Good luck to him though.

:patsch Why do people keep saying this? Just because he can't knock people out or hasn't got the most exciting style, this makes him shit?

Totally agree. Boxing isn't about ko'ing people and having trenchwars. He's a skilled domestic fighter who fights above his natural weight class. He's far from shit.
Napa is easily the most skilled British fighter as far as defence and counterpunching, nobody comes close. He's far from shit...
Unfortunately defence doesn't win fights anymore and when somebody keeps out of his range he struggles. An amateur hit and run tactic is good against Napa.

Would do so much better with a little more power.
But he's a good fighter to watch, I don't find him as boring as Haskins.

Not the most exciting to watch but a very very skillful boxer with excellent defensive skills..... He beats Gary Davies every day of the week!!!

Nape should go to super fly

technically brilliant, his size is always his downfall but can be an advantage if the guy he is facing is agressive and a pressure fighter as he has to bend down and leave himself open. he is getting these title shots due to his ability than his record.
Nape should go to super fly
I'm a twat :good

:deal I don't know why he doesn't maybe the money is bad there thats the only reason, he would clear out the brits easily and the euro isn't too deep besides this fella Sergey Gulyakevich [Only registered and activated users can see links]
No idea who he is but looks half decent, he could get a few paydays with the euro title.
I totally agree... but there is quite a big difference in the £!!! I would love for him to get a world titl shot a super fly, there is some good solid champions but he's a match for anyone down there!!

LHL you've obviously got a bit confused there.
There is no European Super-Flyweight title and that's probably the main reason why Napa stays at Bantamweight.
For some odd reason you've shown us the record of former European title holder and interim World title challenger Sergey Gulyakevich. This is a guy Alex Arthur beat in a mandatory defence of his European title in Arthur's 2nd best win of his career. Gulyakevich is 3 weight classes ahead of Napa.
If this is some sort of joke and I've missed it I apologise.
LHL has had too much Xmas turkey.

Ian Napa is fighting a weight above his natrual weight and is one of the best boxers this country has got.

The most annoying thing on Sky next to the 'team' always talking about Nathan Clevs maths degree is when they talk about Napa like he was some gangsta but then got focused and now is amazing.

I've never heard them say anything about it to be honest. If it was true then surely it would have come up once or twice?

He wern't a gangsta he was was a quality amateur and he lost focus early on in his career.... He was going out all the time drinking and not living the life of a professional athlete!!! Bryan Lawrence has done wonders for his career...
