If I see a Pavlik vs Jones prime for prime thread, and Pavlik even gets 30% of the votes, I am taking a week off just to make sure I am not hallucinating.

For the record, Jones is ALL WRONG for Pavlik. Sure someone will come in with the glass chin crap and say Pavlik would catch and KO Jones.
One, Jones never was remotely hurt at 160 or 168.
Two, someone will say he was never hit flush.....well, he wouldn't be hit flush by Pavlik either, who doesn't possess the handspeed or the unpredictablility currently to land on Jones. His footspeed would baffle Pavlik and his power was immense at 160, probably equal to Pavlik's though admittedly, a different kind of power. He would also hit Pavlik from angles he never saw coming. Throw in Jones accuracy and Pavlik is done in 5 or less.
Pavlik's strenghs would be his size and jab, but hitting Jones with a jab is like trying to catch a fly and chopsticks, and he ins't Daniel son...
Pavlik has great potential...so lets see what he does. Also, for the record, Jones stops Taylor in less than 5 as well.

Doesn't even have to be detailed. Tell us ONE attribute Pavlik of last night possesses over the 160 version of Roy Jones Jr.

Prolly Jones by UD. Jones however never faced a puncher like Pavlik at middleweight.

And vice versa....
Yes, Miranda probably hit as hard as Jones. But he certainly wasn't anywhere near the puncher due to poor technique.

Jones would probably catch Pavlik first though.

Jones by KTFO. He's the type of fighter that would KO Pavlik in the sense that he can put together combinations of punches coming at all angles, downstairs up stairs, and with speed & power.

Pavlik hits Roy, and Roy falls down. Just like every other time Roy fought an opponent who could punch. Except for every fight except the Tarver fight. (which was quite exceptional).

It matters not. Jones would never fight a guy like Pavlik unless Pavlik was well past his prime. A hungry fighter with toughness and a punch is Jones worst nightmare.

WHY O GOD WHY do people simply ignore the 1st TARVER fight against ROY??? WHY? Did he NOT take all of Tarvers BEST shots? In that first fight. If he had a china chin he would've got KO'd in that fight, KO'd in the Ruiz fight because Ruiz DID connect from time to time and is a Heavy wieght with power, James Toney would've KO'd him because he connected at times, Hopkins would've KO'd him because he connected at times, Woods even would've KO'd him in the 2 second round because he got some good shots in during that round especially. Roy fought people with power at 168, 175, AND 200(!!) in his prime. You guys are stupid. Pavilik WOULD not KO roy in one punch, he can take a punch to some capacity. Glen Johnson fought a passed prime Roy who got pounded for 9 rounds straight, like getting hit way too much and it gets knocked down then the back of his head bounces off the mat to make it even worst. You guys act like the first Shot Johnson caught him with put him to sleep in the first round. You guys are stupid. Roy would devestate Pavlik so badly in his prime. Are you kidding me and he would KO him, Roy NOT ONLY had one punch KO power, BUT ALSO he would throw punches from different angles .. all power punches that are fast as hell.
COME ON NOW! This is a prime Roy we're discussing, Tarver would've been destroyed by a prime Roy. Jesus Christ if Taylor almost had Pavlik out what do you think a prime Roy would've done? James Toney would also destroy him.

Yep, or Hagler, judging by the other thread.
I mean Jesus. Pavlik's done shit all. He's beaten a suspect weight drained champ with a pretty good performance. He's wide open, his chin is only good and he has two good shots. He has to show three years of intangibles against decent competiton before i'll even consider him versus this kind of opposition.

Agreed...but I'll be very surprised if he's still champion in 3 years time. It wouldn't be a great shock if Taylor won the rematch, should there be one.

I have a lot of respect for Pavlik, very solid fighter with a great attitude (Likewise for Jermain, two great sportsment, good for boxing). At any rate, Roy Jones would absolutely destroy Pavlik at 160. His dominant footwork and reflexes would throw Pavlik off and that blistering leaping left and straight right would catch Pavlik over and over until he was out of their. Roy at 160-168 was no joke, NO joke.
With that said, why compare Pavlik to Roy Jones? Pavlik will be a great fighter for years to come....everyone is talking Pavlik vs. Calzaghe or Kessler, but I REALLY want to see Pavlik vs. Sturm.

He was ALMOST out from Taylor's shots in the 2nd round, out on his feet, if Taylor had put together his punches better, uppercuts and body shots, or measuring Palvik with a Jab so he can land a fully connected Right hand with leverage, then he would've KO'D him. Just THINK what Roy would've did who is VASTLY more gifted, VASTLY faster, and WHO hits much harder then Taylor from many angles. WTF? People act like this guy has Julian Jackson power and a gerald mcclellan chin or David Tua chin. Taylor had him out on his feet, Ouma has a better chin then him.

I would only pick Taylor to beat Pavlik at 168, which is not impossible.

Agreed on the weight drain thing. Maybe if Calzaghe beats Kessler then Calzaghe V Taylor or Pavlik could be done. Wouldn't put it past Calzaghe to retire to avoid that though...

Cept for the fact that Pavlik would take 30 punches to land those 2, and would be out on his feet before he could get those 2 off. Jones by KO.

If Pavlik had ben around when Jones/Hopkins/Toney were around, Pavlik would be a footnote. He'd be one of those guys we'd slag Jones of for fighting instead of Nigel Benn.
In My Opinion.

He would be the MW version of Richard Hall. A good fighter with great power who couldn't beat great fighters. Jones avoided him too....oh wait.

I like Pavlik and all but hes abit slow and telegraphic with his punches. Hes got an excellent jab though and his length will gime some problems. and of course hes got serious pop. Nonetheless, I dont see RJJ losing unless he gets hit flush which in his prime was pretty rare

How about Pavlik and Ali at heavyweight? Pavlik has a frame capable of moving up in weight I think Pavlik would KO Ali on the ropes doing his rope a dope.

It isn't too often we agree but we definately do here.
Young Roy circa 1990s was one in a million. Won't be another one of those for a very very long time.
Roy Jones wins this by KO, round 1 or 2 or 3, depending on his mood.

The man asked about PRIME Roy Jones.
Prime Roy Jones stops Pavlik at nearly any round of his choosing.
Y'all musta forgot Montel.
Roy usually fought a safe, and conservative style. But in the second Montel fight he was angry and predicted a first round KO.
He then went out and threw caution to the wind, and in round one, devastated Montel (who had TWO victories over a prime James Toney) with a single left hook from a very unusual angle, that sent him spasming into never-never land.
Roy hit harder than Kelly could dream of. He had ONE PUNCH KO power in both hands.
Left: [Only registered and activated users can see links]
Right: [Only registered and activated users can see links]
He could pick and choose whether to toy with Pavlik all night, or end it suddenly.
Of course he could have done the same thing to Taylor.
Watching a shot Roy at the end of his career must have erased the memory of what he was like in his prime.
I can't believe how many are picking Pavlik in this match-up.
