It makes sense to match Toney soft, and then build him up to be a convincing MMA fighter, and then do a ppv with him headlining against Mir or Lesnar somewhere down the road. IMO, match Toney up with Kimbo Slice. Slice choked out Mercer in an exhibition, is willing to fight anyone, and is a big name draw himself---but everyone knows he has his limitations, that he would never be a world beater. Toney/Slice makes sense as a first match up, imho. It dont come much easier, and it be a big deal and make Dana some big money.

From a money stand point. Toney vs Kimbo or Cro Cop.
From a competitive stand point. Toney vs Barry or Yvel.

Crocop makes the most sense. And for the record, Mirko would destroy him in standup

I think this is bang on the money.
We will be able to tell how the UFC is treating Toney if an opponent is ever announced.

Really? Look I know the common MISconception that boxing has the best strikers in the world and believe me I think Boxing is an art that few have mastered and the likes of Floyd/HOpkins/Toney are more skilled in their art then others may be in other combat sports but that does not mean they can venture into other sports and dominate. And keep in mind that James Toney is Old, Fat, Unmotivated and already slurring his speech worse and worse which is a sure sign of brain damage. Now he has to learn new tricks? He has to learn how to defend and recognize kicks, knees, elbows??? Toney won't be able to check Mirko's leg kicks and Mirko is quick enough on his feet to circle and pick his shots. Mirko was a striker first remember.. If Bernard Hopkins fights Anderson Silva in MMA, bet your ass he is getting fucked up. Same as Toney with Crocop :deal

Toney is old, fat and dare I say it slow. White should only let him fight if he promises to drop to at least 205. Even at 205 he will be fat. Toney is naturally a 170 fighter who with age should have grown to 185.
Can you imagine putting him in with Brock. The man would get eaten alive.

But if Toney could get below 205 he could very score a big money boxing match for alot more money

Totally agree.
Toneys a great fighter but he threw away the chance to go down as a legend.
The guy should have one loss on his record to Roy Jones. He could and should have won numerous GENUINE titles from 160 to heavyweight. He could have been the WBC and WBA champ after beating Ruiz and Rahman but he preferred drugs and burger king.
The guy through that chance away.
Much like Briggs and Mayorga I think Toney would have done real well in MMA if he was younger, looked after himself and actually trained. All 3 of them are very talented but if they can't dedicate them self to one martial art, I'm supposed to believe they will dedicate themself to 5 or 6!!!

Toney is one of my favorite boxers of all-time, but I doubt he'd be able to take more than two leg kicks from Cro Cop or Barry or Kongo or any of those guys. If he fights an MMA match against a guy that can kick, he'll get owned. If he fights an MMA match against a guy that can wrestle AT ALL he'll get owned. He really, really should stay the hell away from it.

Frank Mir.
Well, if they want Toney to possibly win and look good, they might want to try Houston Alexander. The man doesn't kick, and makes James Thompson look like a jits black belt on the ground.
If they want him to lose, put him in with anyone that does more than throw punches.

Kimbo...(or Kongo...since he's a striker and sucks on the ground)

Do any of you MMA fans really think Toney can do anything in MMA. Toney's 41 or so and presumably never even practiced submissions or ever wrestled competitively (could be wrong about wrestiling but doubt it). He would also have shit stamina for MMA (yes he can waddle around a boxing ring and rip off some effective punches but that's not much compared to defending take downs and submissions and wrestling for position). If Houston Alexander couldn't destroy Toney in an MMA match i'd be utterly shocked. Given some of toney's recent performances he may even have some trouble with some of the young bucks in an all standing affair.
Edit: Toney also can't rely on pure boxing power like Mercer or even Kimbo can (to a degree)

Frank Trigg, to make the humiliation as complete as possible.
I'd bet my life on Trigg.
Toquinho with instructions to rip as hard on a heel hook as possible, cripple the fat ass for the rest of his life, and prove a point.
