I voted for Mayweather. Although a case could definately be made for Pacman. MMA related websites are flooding the voting. I suggest we do the same.

Tough decision between Pac and Couture. . . Id have to go with Couture for taking on the tougher comp (moving up to beat the HW champ)
This is a good test to show how much MMA has grown. MMA fighters fight top opposition much more often than boxers - although I like boxing more than MMA - its hard to look past this fact.

how is Couture beating of a degenerate heavyweight such as Tim Sylvia even close to Floyds demolition of linear/ring champ Baldomir and then moving up to junior middle and smoking Oscar?
Or even Pacmans KO wins over Morales and Solis?
This isn't an award for "Best Feel Good Story" of the year.
This is best "fighter" of the year....and Floyd or Pacman clearly accomplished more in the ring.

and just another thing. how exactly is Tim Sylvia considered "tougher comp"?:naughty
Oscar is a four-division champion with Olympic pedigree and Baldo was the universally recognized champ.:deal
you are either completely irrational or blinded by bias. i would guess the later.

Couture is 44 years old (43 at his last fight), went up a weight class, and won a title in dominating fashion. He deserves it.

Tougher competition? Probably not, but tougher matchup, Sylvia had a huge size advantage and was coming off a win over the best HW submission wrestler (well, maybe second or third behind Roger Gracie and Ricardo Arona) in the world which Sylvia won by using his massive size, whereas Baldomir and Oscar played right into Floyds hands. I could see the vote going to Floyd as well, but I think Couture deserves it more. Plus he would beat any of the other 4 to bits.;)

ok your obviously another mma fanboy.
the fact that Couture is 43 is irrelevent. this is about a fighters accomplishments during the year. Couture was essentially inactive apart from one fight. in which to his credit, he did well.
Mayweather/Pacman/and Cotto were both far more active and faced a higher quality of opposition.
Couture is a natural heavyweight. You talk as though his moving up was a big deal. He entered the UFC as a heavyweight.
and then you mention that he could beat the other fighters.
Sorry, but I guess you missed the whole point of weight classes.
youre an idiot.:patsch

ESPN is eternally gay for doing this. There should be two categories. Best Boxer, and Best Mixed Martial Artist. Period. You can't combine the two. Somebody needs to hold these douchebag suits accountable for making these lame-brain decisions. Those numbnuts are too fuckin' stupid to even include Fedor.

He entered the UFC as a heavyweight, but was always a small heavyweight, and has been fighting at 205 for 4 years. The age is what cinches it for me, he is doing this at an age when it was considered a miracle when Foreman did it, and Foreman didn't do it in nearly the style that Couture has. The end sentance was a joke d-bag, hence the smiley.
I am a fan of boxing and MMA both, along with almost all other combat sports, you are clearly the fanboy, you are the one with the closed mind saying things like "this is a boxing award and needs to be kept that way", what a rediculous statement, its a fighters award. The others are all deserving in their own right, but I think Couture deserves it the most.

Yeah I didn't get that either, if you're going to include MMAer's, why the hell not add Fedor? I would of voted for Fedor. Rampage beat Liddell which is good and all but I won't get over the fact Liddell had his hands down to his waist when he was moving backwords (what an idiot), and Couture..what did he do this year? I think he lost to Liddell and beat Sylvia. Meh..

I guess they mean best Mixed Martial Artist fighting in a homegrown organization.

why isnt hatton on the list?
because he didn't accomplish the most or perform the best out of every single fighter all year.

i would assume that the award is for accomplishments in the previous year...so achievements throughout 2006 would count toward the 2007 award, 2007 toward 2008 etc...but i don't really know.
