Mundine vows to 'whip' Medley

ANTHONY Mundine's long-awaited return to the ring is back on, but not on his terms.
Mundine was scheduled to fight fellow Sydneysider Robert Medley for the IBO junior middleweight world title next Monday, but was having trouble making the weight limit of 69.7kg.
At one point this week the bout was off.
But after hurried talks over the past 72 hours Mundine will take on Medley, a rising star of the fight game, in a non-title bout at middleweight, under the stewardship of the World Boxing Authority.
Dubbed “The Australian bash”, the bout is set at the slightly higher 71.5kg limit, a weight Mundine is more at home with.
Mundine today described the bout against Medley as “another step in my legacy”.
“I'm still the man. I'm going to whip his ass,” he told the packed media conference.
Never short of throwing a barb at bitter rival Danny Green, who beat Roy Jones Junior to retain the IBO cruiserweight belt in Sydney last month, Mundine described the Perth-based fighter as a myth.
When pressed of the likelihood of a re-match with Green, Mundine added: “I whipped him once and I can do it again.”
Medley, ranked just outside the top 10 in the weight division, said: “I'm not underestimating Mundine.”
I suppose 1.8 kg is better than 2kg difference.

Mundine must really be in decline because his camp were so worried about possibly losing a points decision to Rob Medley that they threw a hissy fit and wanted the damn judges changed. Of course it had nothing to do with him having to kill himself to get down to 154.

Nice post Luds.
Sally & F75... either of you realise this bout is a kilo under the M/W limit?????
Not to mention Mundine has a week to re-stock energies.
Some sense coming through????
For fuck sake Luds, I hope that news is factual.. lol

Medley is getting completed fucked around here and it's a disgrace. Yes i know Medley has agreed to the fight at a higher weight which shows his great character but he had to really or Mundines camp would have pulled the fight and Medley would have lost his chance at a decent purse. All because Mundine himself couldn't make weight.

I dont think Mundine has the workrate or power to actually hurt any1 these days..
He should easily outbox Medley but doubt he will hurt him..
I hope Medley fights dirty and swarms Mundine..Best option.Keep it in a phonebooth..

Laying on, wrestling and smothering opponents is A-Typical for foreign fighters. This would have been a great idea for Medley at 154, especially with 2 O/S judges who witness that style of boxing on a weekly basis.
Even at close range Mundine needs room to counter effectivally.
Love to see Medley whip him still. :good

Mate i just hope Medley atleast goes out willing to die trying..I think he will.
Im interested on how much he would be getting payed??
I like seeing guys like Rob get a lucky break and a shot at the bigtime.
I have seen in the papers abit that he owns a tat shop that has been gettuing terrorised by scumbag bikers...He would probably beat the fuck out of the lot one on one.
Love is Ozzie made tat on his neck 2...

boxing is different to street fighting, especially if he is up against bigger and much heavier guys than him.
Also
I am starting to wonder,
is this going to be a regular occurence, where Mundine agrees to fight at a specific weight, then does a last minute thing of weighing over??

With all the dramas of the last week, Medley will have a head of steam.
Kids on stolen bicycles parading around his tattoo shop?? Fuck them and the patch they disgrace.. Probably no better than the Cabramatta Nomads "No Bike Required" policy.
Medley has nothing to lose at all.
His pay will be pretty poor IMO, as TeamMundine will dictate finances.
Got a feeling some MASSIVE blues in the crowd will occur.. both in and out of the place.

Because he couldn't make 154.
Im wondering if its all just a publicity stunt to once again get the nation talking and sell more tickets.
Maybe he was never going to really get to 154.
Cant remember how many times before a fight mundine comes out with something to get us all talking and his name printed everywhere.
It works so maybe he is till doing it.

Yeah i understand that but Medley aint just a run of the mill fighter. He can throw them pretty good and when not fighting i would say he aint that skinny..Atleast in the 80kgs mark..
And its pretty known fact bikies are a bunch of cats...
My oldman got 7 with 3 and half on the bottom for kidnapping two heroes who assumed their patch allowed them to do as they pleased..
Those cunts dont impress me one bit..My mums brother is a president of a club and i though he is a nutter i would take him myself...Its all for show..

I can understand Luds support for an athlete he admires but come on this Mundine bloke has well and truly fucked his fans over with his bullshit matchups , no disrespect intended here to Geale but Mundine would have been home and hosed as a ledgendary holder of a genuine World title had he consistantly fought to the level of comp he WAS capable of . Mundine has done well money wise but around the world he is a laughing stock amoung Boxing fans , one Katsidis no matter how skillfully challenged = 5 Mundines imo .

Medley has a huge fight in a week that determines better things. He's in line to create a shock with the right punch. Ash and I had a booked plan to see the fight and have a good day on the booze, but after the events of last Tuesday, I would not pay to rethink the option... not to mention the bank account is looking rather shiteful right now.
Will spend $1.10 to read the result in next Tuesdays Herald/Sun instead.
